  1. Obviously the Bills don't want to overpay to move up in the draft, but they do want to acquire a franchise QB. To me, if they get their franchise QB then this draft is already a great success. There's actually a chance that the Bills could get Darnold at #2 overall if Cleveland takes J. Allen at #1 overall. The fortunes of the Bills' franchise will change when they get their franchise QB, and not by accumulating LBs, WRs, et al. It's the right time to go after the franchise QB. Period.
  2. This year is the Bills' BEST chance to draft a true franchise QB, something they haven't had for 17+ years. The bottom line is you win in the NFL with a franchise QB. There have been a few exceptions, but very few indeed. The Bills have the draft ammo this year and if the timing and the deal is right it would be the best move for the Bills to trade up to take the likes of Darnold, Rosen, Allen, Mayfield. Get the franchise QB this year. The Bills are expected to have $100M+ in cap space next year. They can fill in their holes at LB, DL, WR at that point. But you can bet your sweet patootie that they're not going to be able to sign a vet franchise QB.
  3. The Bills have set themselves to trade up ahead of Denver and NYJ. They may end up at #2, #3 or #4, but they know that they have to get ahead of Denver and NYJ in order to be able to select either Darnold or Rosen. Their first priority in the draft will be to select a franchise QB, not wait to see if one falls to them.
  4. It's obvious that the Bills want to find a better QB than TT, but they can't throw TT under the bus because they may not be able to find that QB this year. I'm sure they'd love to have Keenum or Foles or even Cousins, but they're probably not willing to break the bank for those guys. My best guess is that they will seek to trade up to grab one of the top 4 QBs in this year's draft (Darnold/Rosen/Mayfield/Allen). I think they'll have to give up way too much to get Darnold or Rosen. Mayfield may not last past #5 or #6 either. However, Allen may be attainable, possibly at #10 via Oakland or #14 via GB. I happen to think that ten years from now QB J. Allen will be the best QB in this draft class. I'd love to see the Bills sign Keenum, draft Allen at #10 or #14 overall, keep Peterman, and then trade Taylor for a R3 or R4 pick. Taylor is a capable starter so a R3 or R4 pick for an NFL vet starting QB is not out of the question, esp. if you're Arizona and you miss out on the top 4 QBs in this year's draft.
  5. I agree that QB Josh Allen could end up being the best QB of this QB heavy draft class. He'll need some seasoning for sure, which is why the Bills should try to acquire a vet QB like A. Smith, C. Keenum, S. Bradford or T. Bridgewater, maybe even K. Cousins if feasible. Then draft QB J. Allen with the #21 pick overall. Allen looks like he could be Ben Roethlisberger with actually much more mobility. Regarding the vet QBs mentioned, I think they could be acquired as follows from easiest to most difficult: 1. Bradford - Because he's older and because Minny will likely seek to keep both Keenum and Bridgewater. 2. Bridgewater - Because if Minny pays Keenum the big money they won't likely be able to keep Bridgewater as well. 3. Cousins - Because he's a FA likely to go to the highest bidder. 4. A. Smith - Because a trade would be required and he'll likely want $16M+ per year. If the Bills could get him for a R3 and a R5 I would seriously consider it. 5. Keenum - It seems highly unlikely that Minny would allow him to leave after what he has accomplished this year. He will certainly demand something in the $16M+ range.
  6. I think McD & Beane will seek to keep LB Alexander, OT C. Glenn, OG Incognito, and DT K. Williams. These guys may need to take a pay cut or have their contract restructured, but expect them to be back. Expect McD & Beane to prioritize as follows: 1A. Retaining their veteran leaders (Alexander, K. Williams, Incognito). 1B. Acquiring a high quality QB - T. Taylor will be traded before his $6M bonus is due. The Bills can then seek to acquire a vet QB like A. Smith, C. Keenum, K. Cousins, T. Bridgewater or Bradford. Expect them to also draft a young QB for the future. My money is on QB J. Allen. 2. Build the O-line - Keeping a healthy Glenn and Incognito will be a big part of it. Glenn could be moved to RT. We could be looking at LT Dawkins, LG Incognito, OC Wood, RG ??, RT Glenn OR LT Glenn, LG Dawkins, OC Wood, RG Incognito, RT ??. The Bills have added a nice piece in Dawkins. Now they just need to add one more piece to complete the O-line. 3. Build the D-line - At DE they have Hughes, Lawson, Yarbrough, R. Davis, and C. Capi. If Alexander is moved to DE like he should be then this becomes a much more formidable group. Expect the Bills to improve their talent at OLB so that Alexander can provide more of an impact as a pass rusher. At DT they have K. Williams, Washington, Coleman, Thornton, and Hatley. This is where they need a nice infusion of talent.
  7. I love Mayfield's talent. I love his toughness. It is his competitiveness that has made him an elite D1 college football player and it is is competitiveness that will make him an elite NFL QB. ESPN's Chris Carter has said that Mayfield WILL win the Heisman this year. Bills fan should be glad that he doesn't have prototypical height. He's listed at 6'-1", 220 lbs. That's because if he were 6'-4", 230 lbs he would likely be a top 3 pick overall. Instead, he'll likely fall out of the top 10 and maybe even as far as top 15-20, which is well within the range of where the Bills will be selecting in the 2018 Draft. Make no mistake about it. The reason Beane was willing trade guys like Watkins, Darby, et al is because his plan is to select a potential franchise QB in 2018. Tyrod Taylor is a good player, but the Bills are not going to keep him and pay him $16M next year. Instead, he will likely be traded for what they can get for him. I think Mayfield has what it takes to turn the Bills' fortunes around. He reminds my of Jim Kelly and Doug Flutie rolled into one. Like Kelly, he's a gunslinger and extremely tough and competitive. Like Flutie, he has less than prototypical size, but is very creative, savvy, and elusive. He's a two-time walk-on who is now being projected as the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner. Mayfield is the guy that I think the Bills will target in 2018 if he lasts past the top 10.
  8. QB Baker Mayfield (Okla.) is the guy the Bills should be targeting. I think the Bills will end up with the following 2018 draft picks: R1 (18 - Chiefs) R1 (19 - Bills) R2 R2 (Rams) R3 R4 R5 R5 R5 (Jax). I expect obtaining a high quality QB to be the highest priority. The Bills could add a vet FA QB, trade for a QB, draft a QB or both acquire a vet QB and draft a QB. I don't think the Bills will keep T. Taylor at $16M, which what he will be due next year. That would leave the cupboard pretty bare at QB for 2018. As a result, I see the Bills acquiring a high profile vet QB (possibly A. Smith, K. Cousins) AND draft a QB in R1 or R2. Once the QB situation has been addressed I see the Bills wheeling and dealing on draft day just like they did this past year.
  9. This is actually a good move. The Bills need to find out if Peterman is a potential starter. He could very well be. I like the way that he gets the ball out quickly, scans the field well, and has really good accuracy. I'd love to see Glenn play in this game so that Pete can be properly evaluated. He certainly has some very good weapons in McCoy/Benjamin/Clay/Matthews. Z. Jones/DiMarco/Holmes/Cadet/O'Leary/Tolbert are all capable contributors as well. It may be just a matter of Pete getting the ball out quickly and letting his guys do their thing. If Pete does well and leads the Bills to the playoffs in 2017 they may not have to reach high for a QB in the 2018 draft, although I think they would be wise to select a QB in R1 or R2.
  10. I think Gaines is a big key to our defense. He's a lot better CB than is Wright. I'm anxious to see Taylor/Benjamin/Matthews/Clay/McCoy on the field at the same time. There's some real talent there. Even if Benjamin doesn't catch a lot of balls he should command a double team, which will make things easier for everybody else.
  11. The loss to the Jets was ugly. There are no gimmes in the NFL. The Bills played uninspired football and had a no. of things go against them right from the start, which just continued to snowball. Now the Bills have a week and a half to heal up, get several key players back, learn from their mistakes, and prepare for a dynamic New Orleans team at home in Buffalo, which is where they play their best. Not to make excuses but the Bills were without the likes of TE C. Clay, TE EJ Gaines, WR B. Tate, and WR K. Benjamin. All will likely be on the field vs New Orleans. I thought LB Humber was rusty. Hopefully, he will play better. I think the Bills need to stick to their quick, short passing game rather than force Taylor to hold the ball in the pocket, which is not his strength. They have to get the running game going so that Taylor is not a sitting duck. We could certainly use another good RB to throw into the mix with McCoy. If the Bills can beat the Saints I think that it will more than make up for the their loss to NYJ.
  12. Me thinks Yeesuz smokes too much of the goncha. Beane is actually showing signs of being one of the very best GMs in Bills history. It's been all about getting rid of guys who don't fit the "team concept" that Bean & McD believe is needed to win. You can't motivate guys to work hard and do the right things when there are certain other guys on the roster who are fat, lazy, like to smoke weed, produce very little on the field, and are always injured. Watkins was a bust for us because he is a very selfish player. Dareus got the big money so why should he bust his fat a$$. It goes on and on. The Bills are 5-2 and Beane has had the foresight to accumulate a boatload of draft picks in 2018 & 2019 as well.....many of them high draft picks. The Bills are actually looking like a playoff team in 2017. With a 9 picks is 2018 and 10 picks in 2019 along with $50M in cap space in 2018 I expect the Bills to only get better from there.
  13. RB J. Ajayi has been a real thorn in the Bills' side in the past. Now that he has been traded I think Miami becomes a much weaker team and one that I expect the Bills to beat not once but TWICE this year. Throw in the hapless, Luck-less Colts and that's likely three wins for the Bills down the road. I think the Bills' remaining schedule plays out as follows and Bills finish at 10-6 as a minimum: @ Jets - W home vs Saints - L @ Chargers - W @Chiefs - L home vs Pats - L home vs Colts - W home vs Dolphins - W @ Pats - L @ Dolphins - W. BTW, word is the Bills are going after Colts WR Moncrief rather than WR TY Hilton. Your thoughts??
  14. The Bills should have already signed Barnidge. It's a fudgin' no-brainer!! O'Leary & L. Thomas would be among the very weakest TE combos in the entire league. McD is not fooling anybody when he tells the media that the Bills are "just fine" with the receiving corps that they currently have. They needed help at WR a long time ago and now they need help at TE with Clay out for likely 3-5 weeks. They could go out and get WR V. Jackson, WR Ph. Brown, and TE G. Barnidge right now if they wanted to............all for vet min. contracts.
  15. But why only allow 46 players to suit up on game day when each team has 53 players at their disposal??
