Glad he is in.

would have preferred the 3 yrs 36, 24 guar.

Just hope they have room for McGovern and Torrence next year.

Valid.

I thought something was in the works.  It wasn't just that Cook was back practicing but when asked about Cook, McDermott seemed to be fighting to keep from grinning.  Seemed he knew something.

Isn't it 35.7 guaranteed over 5 years? His salary this year has to be factored into the equation. It's also the 3rd highest guaranteed money for a RB in the last 5 years.

I think the contract is paying him what he's worth given the market. A team friendly deal with be under that, but that's just my opinion. To be clear, I'm happy about the signing.

His salary this year wasn’t factored into the equation for Kyren Williams.

James Cook was playing this year on 1 for $5M. This extension is paying him for 2026 and beyond.

Our backup TE is set to make $14.5M this year and $17M next year.

We pay Samuel $9M to be WR4 role player.

We just handed Hoecht $7M/yr to sit out suspended.

Ed Oliver is good and all but set to make $25M next year.

There's a lot of other money to worry about than $12M for what Cook brings to the table.

To the flip side:

We have our Franchise QB locked up

We have our OTs locked up

We do not have any major WRs who will command $30M or even $20M

We just got all the other major extensions done.

The cap is skyrocketing every season with streaming money (a huge $25M jump that last couple of years)

We have other guys we can restructure

IOL is in the same underpaid boat as RB.

To @Ya Digg?'s point, there is no need to worry about this $12M contract.

I realize it’s next offseason but I wished I shared your optimism n the plenty of money front. Even so, there’s no room to do McGovern now. He will have to play out this year and then they hope they can get a deal done before free agency, assuming they want to. If that’s the cost of securing Cook I am ok with that.

Read @DrDawkinstein comment - Cook is, in absolutely 10000000% whatsoever, going to be the reason they can't sign McGovern in the future.  This whole "Cook's contract is going to cost the Bills players in the future" narrative needs to end, and needs to end quickly

Dalvin co-signing on Brandt talking about how Allen hasn’t had remotely close to the help Peyton Manning has had and that it’s not apples to apples when comparing the two given the Brady/Manning, Allen/Mahomes discussion.

For that reason, Brandt says Bills had to extend Cook because he’s the one guy who’s stepped up for him when it matters.

At one point the bills surrounded Allen with an elite WR, an extended TE, a 1st round TE, a pro bowl caliber Tackle, high priced interior talent, and an excellent slot player.

The bills may have never had Marvin Harrison but I’m really getting tired of this meme.

Without Josh Allen the bills have an elite OLine, high quality TE play, and legit quality OC, a potential high end outside WR, an elite slot, and solid WR depth.

Replace Allen with Baker Mayfield and this team makes the playoffs.

With or without James Cook. Heck you could probably replace him with Sam Darnold or Bryce Young this team makes the playoffs

The summary story on ESPN app includes the top contracts on the Bills roster. What shocked me is that Groot is making close to TWICE what Cook got. I don’t recall the big dust up over that deal. I can’t see how Groot is worth that sort of compensation….geeez!

Once Gibbs, Montgomery, and Robinson get re-signed this contract wont even be a blip on the radar.

Then Cook holdout #2 😡

Who’s had better talent around them?

Rank 1-4

Allen

Mahomes

Lamar

Burrow

And maybe you put Allen above Burrow, given the drop off after Chase/Higgins/Hendrickson, but the best player Allen has ever played with is Diggs.. who choked in the postseason.

It’s not a meme.  The lack of high end talent that step up in big moments has been a major issue for this team.

Where would you rank Diggs amongst Kelce, Jones and Hill?  Dead last?  And that’s the best we’ve given Allen.. I’m shocked this team hasn’t gotten past KC.. shocked.

I might be lukewarm on extending a RB, so I’m hoping he’s more Kamara and less pure RB, but at least Cook stepped up when it mattered.   More than I can say for any supposed talent we’ve given Allen so far.

What about Torrence?

Yea I’ve always been on the fence with Torrence. I think he’s the type of player that will get too big of a contract when he hits the open market so if the Bills want him they’ll have to extend him early but I don’t know if he warrants that attention yet. The Guard market has started booming mostly due to the lack of good blockers in general in the NFL.

I think you’ll see the Bills use a draft pick in the 3rd or 4th round next year on a IOL guy next year. If you look at the Beane philosophy/Panthers they paid their centers and tackles first before guards

If you also look at the contracts on OTC or Spotrac, the 2026 year is a good year for the Bills to get out of a lot of their heavier contracts

I have to think Knox is gone next season.  Hawes is his replacement

Samuel too.  This is his last season.

Ed Oliver must be restructured.  You dont spend all your draft picks on the D-Line and do nothing with Oliver's contract

Knox's relationship with Josh got him that contract and he will never be let go.

Josh's best buddy.

What about #73?

#79 is going to be All-Pro this year if he stays healthy

He won't score 16 rushing td over the life of the contract. Total overpayment for a player who does not get 50% of snap share

The only reason he might not 16 TDs is if they keep giving Allen easy rushing scores in the red zone.

Seems like a long deal with lots of guaranteed money for a RB.  More than the Bills could afford.

hes 25 now.  Most RBs don’t make it to 29

All depends on how much wear and tear an RB has accrued. Given his usage in college and the pros, Cook is a low-mileage running back and the Bills will continue to not over-use him in their schemes.
