I hike/trail run every weekend, usually in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California.  Sometimes I move through redwood forests and sometimes I'm rewarded with beautiful views of the Monterey Bay. 

 

But the mountains themselves aren't this majestic.  I'm jealous.

The “Rule of 51” ends today at 4 pm when rosters are cut down. Yes, at that point full 53 man rosters and PS players count. Dead cap, PUP and IRed players always count.

Not really on the path you are taking, but if you ever need to pass through the panhandle of Idaho, instead of taking the interstate from Missoula to Spokane, go over Lolo pass and drive highway 12 along the Lochsa river. It is a gorgeous drive until you get close to Lewiston.  From there you can head north to Spokane.  

 

If you take this route in the spring you can be treated to whitewater rafters flipping their boats on class 5 rapids (I've been on the Lochsa swim team before,lol)

When Gibbs and Robinson sign, Cook has automatically vastly outplayed his current deal. I’d like to ask what happens with Cook’s contract when Gibbs and Robinson sign for twice as much per year? They are both better than Cook, but considering some aging former tier 1 RBs, McCaffrey, Barkley, Henry… Cook is in the same hat as everyone not named Gibbs or Robinson. I don’t know if there’s been a situation in the past where a contact has been renegotiated after a year for a top player because of a huge position hike in salary?  
 

As a grinder I saw Cook as having one more elite season, maybe, and then declining. But with Brady and Carmichael, Cook could and should catch 50 balls for 500 yards, and continue as the Bills bell cow. We’d have to pay him more after this season, and he’ll be older. At any point during the season does this become a thing? Is that likely in year two of a contract?

Nah. Running backs don't have that kind of leverage. And in any event once they have signed new cash becomes more important to players than AAV. The Bills gave him $10.5m cash in 2025. They have given him $9.5m in cash in 2026. But that is the last guaranteed cash in the contract. Next year he is in line to earn another $9m cash.... but cost $13m on the cap. The strong likelihood is the Bills give him another chunk of cash to restructure him, bring his cap hit down and keep him happily counting his money by turning say $7m of that into another bonus.

I hear ya. They are talking big money for those two. Things might change a little when those deals are made and there’s a media cycle and runningbacks start to speak up. Pendulums swing. But you’re right, runningbacks continue to be widely expendable, yet essential to certain teams. Seems whichever positions enhance a QB’s situation gets paid accordingly. The RB doesn’t seem complimentary towards the QB like WRs and lineman for some reason.

Also worth noting that Cook took less overall to get larger amount guaranteed. His $30M in guaranteed money in a non-rookie contract is second to only Saquon Barkley at $36M. Love and Jeanty also have more guaranteed due to being on fully guaranteed, top 6 draft pick contracts.

I'm more impressed the Eagles somehow have $30M with all the contracts they hand out. Beane always says because we paid Josh we are cap poor. After seeing that list I think he's full of bupkiss.
