Ben Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Yeh he showed too much not to make the team. Might not be active on game day barring injuries but he showed he belongs Quote
LLCoolCy Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I was just listening to the Check the Mic podcast last week and they were listing Solomon as the breakout player for the Bills this year. His pressure numbers were good when he played though it is a small sample size. Fully expect Solomon to get a good look early in the year to see if he can get a 3rd down pash rush specialist role this year and replace AJ next year. If he doesn't flash early then he'll be cut like a lot of 5th rounders. They discuss Solomon at the 4:40 mark for anyone bored. 2 Quote

If the staff thought this guy would have a shot at starting, I don't feel they would have spent all those resources on DE It may be a fair assessment here, but bad blanket statement. You don't not make moves based on a 5th rd, 1 year player. Dude would've got the same treatment if he was a 5-7sack guy. Can't count on him enough to pass up his players at his position, but doesn't mean the staff thinks he won't take a step either. Hes a mini project, low cost, high upside. Love these kinds of picks. Hopefully he makes us look genius 3 hours ago, blacklabel said: Not sure why but since they picked him I've had this feeling that he could turn into a steal. As others have stated, he gives them a different skill set at edge rusher. They've got the length guys like Groot and Epenesa, and now a length & power guy in Landon Jackson, Hoecht seems like a power rusher, Bosa when healthy can bring a little bit of speed and power. Solomon probably the speediest of the bunch tho and I think they could probably create some pressure packages that he's a part of. It can vary depending on the matchups as well. If they have an opponent with a right tackle who really struggles with speed rushers then yeah maybe he's getting some snaps that week. Who was the dude that did this for us maybe 7 years ago? Was really fast DE, but ppl b-worded he took a looping route on his pass rush. Pretty sure he came from NE and or maybe Miami. I really liked him at the time but we cut him. Mark something maybe??? BillytheKid Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago (edited) I saw one guy who covers the NFL, can’t remember his name… he had Solomon as the break out player of the year for the Bills. So would be a little shocked if he didn’t make the roster. EDIT: I hadn’t read through the whole thread when I posted at first. I see in a post above me that check the mic had him as a breakout player, there was also someone else I believe that listed him as well. Edited 8 hours ago by BillytheKid Quote
JakeFrommStateFarm Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I think if he goes into a NFL strength, conditioning and nutrition program this summer, he could be much stronger this season. He was just a rookie last season 1 Quote
BigAl2526 Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago (edited) Obviously, the Bills are counting on Rousseau to have a major role on the defense as he did a year ago. They are hoping that Joey Bosa will be able to return to his play of a few years ago. In four of his first six seasons, he had ten or more sacks. Rousseau and Bosa have both played mostly left end. In the last few years, Bosa has played more linebacker, but that's probably not happening with the Bills. I think they are hoping that Landon Jackson will be effective playing RDE, so Bosa and Rousseau can rotate on the left. Epenesa is the incumbent starter at RDE, and at this point, I don't think the Bills are ready to get rid of him. Hoecht is obviously not available for six games. Even when he returns, he's something of a unicorn as a 310 lb defensive end. He times fast, but I can't believe he's going to be more than a power rusher. Besides Solomon the rest of the defensive ends on the Bills roster, are scrubs; Paris Shand and Hayden Harris. Those two are extreme long shots to make the roster, so discounting them, and not counting Hoecht at the start of the season, Solomon is the fifth DE. There is a decent chance, the Bills will carry 5 DEs. If they do, Solomon will be the guy. How much playing time he gets is very much up in the air. Epenesa has been solid, but not a difference maker. Epenesa has never had more than 6.5 sacks in a season. Granted, he's always been in a rotation, but I think the Bills would like to see more from him. If he gives the Bills the same level of play that he always has, I could see the Bills experimenting with giving Solomon more snaps when the game is important and hasn't already been decided. Solomon is the only defensive end buffalo has who relies on quickness and bend to get to the QB. I just don't think they want to get rid of that in their toolbox. NewEra Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago (edited) I think he’s going to be a solid rotational player while Hoecht is out and then when Bosa inevitably misses time with injury. Statistical predictions are really my thing for edge rushers, but I think we’ll be happy with his play 18 minutes ago, BigAl2526 said: Obviously, the Bills are counting on Rousseau to have a major role on the defense as he did a year ago. He’s not even close to 310 lbs. think more like 260ish. Not sure positive, but pretty sure that sites, including the Bills are still using his college weight Edited 7 hours ago by NewEra Quote
GunnerBill Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Special teams is a critical part of this. Let's look at the DL guys who we think are locks for the roster: Ed Oliver - does not play on STs Greg Rousseau - v limited STs just the FG block unit Joey Bosa - does not play on STs TJ Sanders - did almost no STs at South Carolina Landon Jackson - did do some STs at Arkansas and likely will for the Bills UNLESS he earns a heavy role in the DL rotation. Then let's look at the other guys in the picture for roster spots: Deone Walker - did not play special teams at Kentucky Daquan Jones - does not play special teams Dewayne Carter - does not play special teams AJ Epenesa - v limited STs just the FG block unit the past couple of years (did do it more earlier in his career but was not good) Michael Hoecht - been a core STer through his career Larry Ogunjobi - v limited STs just the FG block units Javon Solomon - core STer They are the 12 guys in the mix for maybe 10 roster spots on the DL. If the keep 9 they can probably get away with just one of the backups being a core STs guy. But if they keep 10 or more they are going to need at least a couple of those guys to play teams. There are only 3 teams players there: Hoecht, Solomon and Jackson. Hoecht is suspended for the first 6 weeks which means Soloman is very likely to be on the roster or you are asking Jackson as a rookie to not just play some teams but be a core STer while also, hopefully, working his way into the edge rotation. Is Solomon then at risk when Hoecht comes back? Yes. But it might depend where Landon Jackson is by that point. If he is getting a lot of run with the defense then I think Solomon has a chance to stick. 3 1 1 Quote

klos63 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) As i recently bought my son, Solomon, his jersey, I'm expecting big things. Although I'm more confident with the jersey that i bought for my son, Oliver. Edited 4 hours ago by klos63 Quote
Victory Formation Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I would be highly disappointed if he didn’t make the team. Not only is he a great STs player, but I think he could be a great situational pass rusher on defense. Quote
Richard Noggin Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Solomon might be better suited to see the field in an odd-front OLB role or more of a wide-9 alignment. The learning curve would be a lot flatter for him. Our system/coaches greatly prefer long, stout, 3-down types. Solomon IS actually super long-armed, but he obviously ain't tall for the position. Quote
Poleshifter Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Didn’t the Bills add a new assistant DL coach who specializes in the pass rush? This could help Solomon’s development as well. I look forward to seeing his second season. Quote
