Kid seems to be overlooked and I get it but I absolutely think there's upside there. Thoughts?

I love this guy.

I may be delusional, but if this kid got like 50% or more of the snaps at DE, he would be a 10-12 sack guy. He’s one of those players who would have excelled on our drought-era teams.

I don't care who it is as long as someone steps up and rushes the passer effectively. If it is Solomon, great. Do I expect a 5th round developmental guy to be the answer? No, not really. But you never know.

Judging by the very low bar being used by most fans stemming from his limited year one snap count, he has an opportunity to surprise with very little year 2 improvement.

Nice spot to be in I guess.

Not sure why but since they picked him I've had this feeling that he could turn into a steal.

As others have stated, he gives them a different skill set at edge rusher. They've got the length guys like Groot and Epenesa, and now a length & power guy in Landon Jackson, Hoecht seems like a power rusher, Bosa when healthy can bring a little bit of speed and power. Solomon probably the speediest of the bunch tho and I think they could probably create some pressure packages that he's a part of.

It can vary depending on the matchups as well. If they have an opponent with a right tackle who really struggles with speed rushers then yeah maybe he's getting some snaps that week.

situational 3-4 sack guy, maybe 5 sacks tops. Likely looks great against bad teams and invisible against good ones.

Did he look invisible because he literally didn’t get any snaps? Lol.

He just needs to learn how to finish.  Solomon played sparingly last season, but when you watch him, he wins a ton of reps.  He was around the QB a ton, but there were so many times he would get his hands on the QB and not finish.  He probably should have had 5 or 6 sacks last season because he beat his man badly, but failed to get the QB on the ground.  Almost looked tentative at times.  Maybe he was afraid of getting flagged or something.  Regardless, I saw some promise in him last year because I did watch him specifically quite a bit, but he left me frustrated when he didn't get the QB on the ground.  I want to see him be more aggressive and finish this season. I think he has something.

Starts the year as DE 5 and goes to the practice squad when Hoecht comes back.

Seems logical.  Bosa is in all likelihood going to miss a few too.  If he makes an impact in spot play, he'd likely stick to the end of the season.  Not a terrible spot to be in since i don't see anyone taking that DE6 spot from him.  No "guaranteed" playing time, but you got 6 weeks with 2 guys missing on the DL -  Bosa on a snap count, a rookie, Groot, and AJE.  He should play quite a bit there, and if he plays well then you have decisions to make.  Hoecht playing some special teams means you can probably keep one less DE.

I see upside in him, but I am not sure how much opportunity he really gets here right now...suddenly its pretty crowded on the DL, and thats a good thing.  Groot, AJE, Bosa, Landon are all going to likely play ahead of him in the rotation.  He will get some snaps, and I think he has potential to bring in those snaps, but he is probably pretty deep in the rotation to really get too many opportunities here.  His best chance will be if injuries open up more reps IMHO.

I do look forward to see how he looks this year though as I do think he has potential, especially after this year if Bosa doesn't prove worth bringing back or if they wanted to say move AJE to save cap space and open up more reps for our younger guys next year.

I honestly didnt see enough of him to be hey he's a player or oh no... get him out of here... my impression was generally positive with hope that he can take another step... it would be huge as a 2nd year guy to come in and set it on fire...  but I am not expecting that..

He's a second year low round pick. They invested heavily in higher round DL picks and free agents this year. He is probably a roster bubble player at this point and fighting for a roster spot. He probably makes the team because of the PED cheats and the fact McD carries 10 or more DL most of the time.  I don't think he should carry that many this year as they have more question marks in the secondary than they do at DL.  It would be nice to see him take the next step and move on from Epenesa.  He's cheaper than Epenesa.  If he can be a 4-6 sack guy even in mop up duty that would be far less expensive than some of the other guys they have had on the DL.

They added 3 players who can play DE though - bosa, jackson, hoecht.

And lost two, Miller and Smoot and one is suspended for 6 games.

I wouldn't be shocked if AJ gets traded after the 6 week suspension is over assuming Solomon and Jackson look halfway decent and Bosa stays healthy.
