Wow. So I’m guessing they were allowed to use the Thruway to get from Rochester to the Buffalo airport, and then they were all allowed to individually drive home from the airport to their homes in OP (or the south towns), while everybody else is locked down at home, and there is a standing traffic ban, with threats of arrest for being out on the roads!? Just Wow! Rules are for suckers, not NFL organizations, I guess. 🙄

What are you 12?  This world is us. And this world is them. In most cases "us" are only here because "them" allow it.

Either way. Home by sunset

Yeah, they're not driving into buffalo until then either. What insurance company that insures an nfl team and all those salaries is going to sign off on that one exactly?

Hey y'all. nothing like reciepts. Boaters rolling his eyes, y'all doubting how much the players matter more than us... Here ya go. We are plebs. 😂

Special case. Besides they're going home, not for a beer run.

I saw on Twitter where the buses came from Rochester down route 33 through Batavia, Corfu, etc..  I have no problem with the team getting the players back to their homes, which would require some driving on local roads. They should be with their families. People that want to b*tch about it just live to complain and find things to be upset about all the time.

A Christmas Story Bunny GIF

Chillax bro- if this is the first time in life you found out circumstances are different for different people or the fact there is more then 1 effin way to get to Buffalo from Rochester then perhaps you need some life lessons.

Happy Holidays!

This deserves a Bump.  Everyone assuming the Bills violated the closure of the NYS Thruway.  No, they came down main roads, that were open.

Yes, they did violate driving bans in Erie County, but those normally don't apply to "Essential Workers".  I have no problem with considering getting the Bills home as "essential travel" especially if they had guidance on what roads were open and what to avoid.

14 hours ago, Since1981 said:

Usually, side roads and state roads are open even if/when interstate is “closed”. They can’t physically “close” all roads.

I know this goes without saying for most, but the thing that physically closes the roads is often the physical conditions - the driving ban exists because the roads are in such bad shape that cars are getting stuck just from folks trying to get home from work, then that makes plowing more difficult.

Witness this pic looking N on Transit from Sheridan road:

The plow obviously needed to be creative already, and one more guy who gets stuck in the only open lane, and EMS is screwed on response.

Anyway, point is, being a dick about getting the Bills home on Sunday afternoon after the storm isn't going to do a Thing to help people who couldn't get an ambulance or a rescue from their stuck car during the thick of it on Fri or Sat.  It's tragic, but me ripping my clothes and smearing ashes on my face Sunday night doesn't get you heat or a ride home on Saturday morning.

Surprised the team didn’t  have a crew out there clearing these off ahead of time.

Any crew the team might have wanted to hired could well have been unable to get out or unable to travel - the team tried to hire snowplows to clear the player's driveways for travel to Detroit and the plows couldn't get out.

But according to this video from Coach Dorsey's wife, there were apparently teams of volunteers who turned out to help shovel

I had to laugh at the irony.

While the team traveled on Route 33 to Return to Buffalo It was the very same highway my own parents got stuck and stranded on during the Blizzard of 77 In an attempt to attend my aunts funeral in Buffalo.  They could not get back home  for FIVE days.

But the same road  was clear enough for travel and escort home for our Bills. My parents are undoubtedly smirking up in heaven as I type this 🙂

I read 25 deaths so far. This chit is really no joke Im not making light of it.  But of course Im glad the Bills are home. I hope everybody gets at home ASAP.

amen.-m

Sorry if already posted… but I’m watching GMFB right now, and they’re showing clips of the Bills players digging their cars out of the snow at the airport.

Im actually blown away that they didn’t have the team park under cover (somewhere, anywhere), having a good idea that the weather was going to be insane.  Pick ‘em up in a covered lot or garage and bus right to plane.

Perhaps overreaction, and bigger issues in the world though…

Build a freaking parking garage. Even if the real estate is tight you build vertically. Hello, McFly!?!

I think the answer to that is no one expected the storm to be quite as fierce as it was at the airport.  In hindsight, it would have been a good idea, but the airport actually usually doesn't get that much snow!

There is a single covered lot at the airport

https://parking.buffaloairport.com/parking-information-reserved-covered-parking/

It has a shuttle, but worth noting that the shuttle goes to the main airport terminal, so a different ride service would have had to be provided.  Also worth noting that with the airport officially closed, no guarantee that the exit to that garage would have been open and navigable when it was time for the Bills to leave.  So now you don't have to shovel out cars, but you do have to find someone who can get there to unlock and raise the exit gate and to plow out the exit ramp and the road from the garage to the main drag.

I'm sure in hindsight, it would have made sense to ask the players to park at the stadium where the Bills own crack grounds crew and snow removal equipment could have cleaned them out, then bus them to the airport.  But hindsight is always 20/20.  With all the scurrying to communicate and get the players to the airport to head out  a day early, as well as change hotel reservations and get all the equipment to Detroit and home - it's not a surprise optimal parking strategy for players wasn't high on the list.

And again - the airport usually doesn't get that much snow, the fiercest snow is usually the snow belt, Orchard Park, Angola etc.

I think it's safe to say all of our UFAs will not be resigning

I mean....this is being compared to the Blizzard of 1977.  That was 45 years ago.

Can UFAs really not understand that this is like a generational storm?

Yeah Im not buying UFA's wont sign in Buffalo due to weather.  Add in playoff appearance checks and playing for the Bills to the decision scale. Hey UFA you want a ring homey?

If they haven't  bought into what the Bills have to offer Professionally I think they need a new agent just sayin'

There are plenty of free agents that won't come to Buffalo whether the Bills are a likely playoff team or not.    You can not buy it all day but it's fact.    Josh Allen badly wanted Christian Kirk to be his slot receiver this season........went on vacation with him to woo him.........and Kirk was full pfffft to the idea of playing in the cold in Buffalo.   And he's turned out to be a much better slot WR than even peak Beasley.     Then there are the WAG's..........Kyle Jusczyk had a better deal lined up with Buffalo but his GF burst into tears at the notion and he signed with SF instead.    Bills even got seconds on a fullback.

Not wanting to play in Buffalo is still going to be a thing for some of the best talent........even if Josh leads the Bills to a SB........and especially for WR's so the Bills are going to have to keep addressing that in the draft or taking the seconds on the market and trying to elevate them.

The Bills happen to be in a Championship window with Allen and McBeane steering the ship. Culture of winning, etc.. So while they are in this window, free agents will sign barring a few exceptions.  If they were a crappy team right now it would be brutal. No one would sign here. Who wants to live near this Lake snow machine in winter if the organization sucked?!

I could More see a player wanting to go to a state with less taxes than NY vs the weather. But I think you have a point

Yes I'm looking at this issue as a born and bred WNY er.  Maybe I should put it this way. If you dont want to play for Bufflao we don;t want you right back pal.

Um Biff, I don’t think they are going to allow a multi story building that close to runways.

Yes, but that doesn't change my point.  Buffalo has really bad winters - occasionally.  It's not as though there are storms like this every year.

Well Western New York is a very large area

Orchard Park is an outer ring suburb … The airport is in Cheektowaga in the inner ring

As far as Buffalo and inner ring suburbs… I’d say the airport probably gets hit the hardest or parts of west Seneca

1) Not the players fault.

2) They have families too

Also suggesting the Bills caused those poor people to die is a low blow.

As terrible as that is, not really a fair comparison. It is the height of unfairness for people to be blaming fire/police for not being able to rescue people in conditions that could only be described as impossible. The fact they risked their own lives many times to try should be commended in and of itself.

Nope...the Eastern suburbs Depew/Lancaster east of the airport get hit harder than the airport. They are in a snow belt where the winds will take the bands over Lackawanna, miss downtown and the airport, be a bullseye for Depew/Lancaster and head out to Batavia.  Whatever the total at the airport is for a given season, you can tack on about 20-30" usually.

When we had 7 feet here in 2014, airport had barely a foot.

West Seneca has it worse usually than us tho.
