Bills cuts

If we're going to do these mega threads, it should be done by someone who can update the OP.

Reading through 500+ replies for cuts here and there is crazy.

I know we want to keep the homepage less messy, but a new thread for each cut would still be more useful than this.

As @GunnerBill already said, their offense was the reason they played in KC in the divisional game. Their issues defensively in the playoffs were the pass rush, I loved the Von Miller signing, but the amount of assets they’ve put into the defensive line has taken away from other positions(offensive positions)… Just something to watch for come these next few months… doesn’t mean the Bills can’t win the SB, but if they don’t I’ll guess it because their offense falters due to lack of depth due to injury somewhere.

So? It was the defense that screwed the pooch and ended the season, not the offense, GBs context is incorrect on this.

The post I just quoted tells you who made the team.

Cutdown day:

Where a bunch of fans freak out over who the Bills cut and -- assuming that every GM in the league loves our fringe roster guys as much as we Bills fans do -- swear those players will get scooped up immediately by other teams.....only for 99% of them to easily make it through to the practice squad.

Fun times.

I’m still holding out hope for Brandon Reilly. He was going to be an all pro in NE

Is there a list of the cuts in one post?

So far "confirmed"

OL Alec Anderson

WR Tanner Gentry

TE OJ Howard

RB Raheem Blackshear

RB Duke Johnson

DE Brandin Bryant

DT CJ Brewer

DT Prince Emili

From the list of players who were training today it seems that following players will be also cut:

OT Luke Tenuta

WR Marquez Stevenson

WR Isiaih Hodgins

DE Mike Love

DE Kingsley Jonathan

DT Eli Ankou

LB Joe Giles Harris

CB Ja'Marcus Ingram

In other words, in some kind of capacity, i.e. at least temporarily will stay (from questionable ones):

Greg Van Roten, Kumerow, Sweeney, Morris, Moss, T. Jones, Lawson, Spector, A.Smith (suspended), Cam Lewis, Nick McCloud

Barkley was also training today.

There’s 1000 places to see who has been cut if that’s all you need.

I'm so sick of the "we need him for special teams" guys. They kick it through the end zone on kickoffs (even when they shouldn't) and they rarely punt and when they do half of them are downed or touchbacks. Kumerow should not made it over Hodgins and Taiwan Jones is not a RB

I hear that, but we can only live in the reality that it was, “defense”

Again with the hyperbole.  He had a rough week.  One bad draft pick he got something for three years later, another bad draft pick he had to cut for reasons out of his control, and a 1-year FA signing that didn't pan out.

Why do some insist upon acting as though this is a disaster?

Don't forget spending a 2nd round pick on a running back. Who proceeded to not only not earn the starting job but isn't even the backup.

I think scraping the whole 8 man defensive line to rotation altogether would result in better allocation of the cap elsewhere….but that’s something that McD doesn’t want to let go.

I am not against a heavy Dline rotation. I'm really not. When the Eagles won the Superbowl everyone remembers Nick Foles in the Superbowl but they don't get there if not for Schwartz having two waves of pass rushers to throw at teams in the stretch run and the playoffs and Brandon Graham made the biggest play of the game, fresh when it mattered. But if you are going to do it you are going to have to be able to get production out of guys who are not heavy investments. The Eagles had a couple of late round guys in that rotation - Beau Allen for one was a 7th rounder and there was a Buffalonian kid as well started a STer then got worked in some at end. Think he was an UDFA.

When Schwartz was here we had a pretty heavy rotation too but the second line included Jarius Wynn (former 6th round pick turned journeyman), Stefan Charles (former UDFA) and Corbin Bryant (former UDFA). The Bills current rotation is two first round picks by the team, two second round picks by the team, three other well paid vet DTs and a highly paid and decorated former #2 overall pick and sure fire HoFer. Eventually you have to make chicken salad out of chicken something else on the Dline too and only Justin Zimmer really (who had an unfortunate horrible injury) can be held up as an example of this team doing that. It puzzles me that they have been willing on almost every other unit - secondary, linebacker, offensive line, wide receiver etc... to at some point trust themselves to find gems and develop them. Whereas the defensive line has had expensive overhaul after expensive overhaul.

The only difference from my 53 roster is Kumerow for Hodgins and McCloud kept.

Edit:  Also, Hart for Mancz (that's confusing)

I am still assuming Barkley ends up on PS.

55 on the tweet minus Barkley and Smith is 53.  Someone will have to be moved to sign a punter by Thursday.

Tre going to PUP seems likely now.

Does this also mean Stevenson is cut/injury settlement?

I was more of a Da'Rick Rogers guy myself. It was sad to see him immediately vault the Colts into Super Bowl contention.

Please name anyone (besides a fan) who thought Cook was supposed to be the starting RB for this team.  Anyone.

If more people would keep to the point it would work better.

Yeah I love the work he is doing but this is huge miss on Beane's part. $2.6M dead cap for a guy who won't take a snap in Bills uniform is brutal given how tight our cap will be following years. Huge miss.

I think they gave it a shot, was hoping his Achilles was healed, and at the end of the day it wasn’t so moving on.  I don’t disagree with the choice to try given what I saw at Alabama, and early with the Bucs.

He is still a good blocker, and a good large body red zone threat so it was worth a try.

In Beane we trust so fine with me.

This is not true.  MJD had 1600 yards rushing and nearly 2000 yards from scrimmage that year .  Ray Rice had over 1300 rushing and over 2000 yards from scrimmage.  There were several RBs that were better than Fred Jackson in 2011.

Freddie was in the MVP race before he got injured, wasn't he?

I absolutely see your point. I wanted more on the offensive side of the ball (particularly along the Oline) as well. However, I wanted that defensive line fixed even more. One of the Bills' greatest weaknesses last year was their run defense. They needed a drastic overhaul to fix that and improve the pass rush at the same time. Everyone likes to point out the Pittsburgh and Jax games as evidence of offensive failure last year. They lost those games because they didn't play well, not because they needed more talent. I look at the losses to Tennessee, Indianapolis, and the first NE game where they got run over. Not because they didn't play well, but because they needed more talent.

Hmm. I think up front they needed more talent. Granted they didn't play well either. But I just don't think they were good enough. I banged the "Feliciano is a bum" drum pretty hard for three years before the team caught up.
