dpberr
I am amused a man can physically assault another man and just sit back down in his seat as if nothing happened. No security, no ejection. No escort out to cool down. People got physically removed from school board meetings in this country because they raised their voices or didn't wear a mask. 2

I read where they both participate in the "open" part of their relationship. Hers are just more visible because one of those hookups spoke to the press. My personal opinion is that he's in a committed relationship with another man/woman, and has been for some time - something along the lines of Whitney Houston's longtime female lover that no one outside her family knew about until she passed. I think the random hookup women would squeal to the press for their 15 minutes of fame. I don't think it's that unusual - the unusual part to me is how freely they seem to talk about it and draw attention to it.

BillsFan4
I think both Chris Rock and Will Smith were in the wrong here. That was a terrible joke by Chris Rock. But Will Smith had no right to hit him. IMO Smith would’ve been better off if he just walked up on stage, asked for the microphone and said something like “Chris, you know my wife has a medical condition that makes her hair fall out, right?” then just handed the mic back and walked away. Then just Chris Rock would have looked like the one in the wrong. I didn’t know that Jada Pinkett Smith had alopecia areata until this incident. I see now that she’s been open about it in the past but I don’t follow celebrity news at all. That’s not something you should joke about. I’ve seen people saying “it’s not like she has cancer or something” and I agree, alopecia isn’t cancer and thankfully isn’t life threatening. But it’s still a Very difficult disease to deal with, especially for a woman. I have a female family member with alopecia. She’s had it since high school and it’s been pretty difficult for her to deal with. She’s dealt with all sorts of nasty teasing (sadly even now, as an adult), rumors about her and whispers behind her back. It’s not like she wears wigs and fake eyelashes/eyebrows for fun, but that doesn’t stop the gossip. One of the things that makes alopecia so difficult to deal with is that it’s random and/or cyclical. Your hair will start to grow back in, then just when it’s really starting to get long enough to maybe go without a wig your hair will start falling out in big round patches again. Or sometimes maybe your hair will grow in king enough to go without a wig for a few months, then start falling out again. It can be such an emotional rollercoaster. Seeing as it looks like Jada just recently shaved her head it makes me wonder if she just recently dealt with something like this. None of this excuses Will Smith’s actions though. He wasn’t wrong for defending her but he was wrong for the way he chose to do it.

From what I have read, he didn’t know about it. That would actually change my opinion of what happened. I don’t know that it’s ever a great idea to make fun of a bald woman (partly for this reason…). But if he didn’t know she has alopecia then he obviously wasn’t purposely making fun of her medical condition. If that’s the case then it was just more of a dumb/thoughtless joke on his part, rather than purposely being an a-hole. I assumed he knew when I read that Jada Smith had been open about the condition. But as I already mentioned I didn’t know she had alopecia until this happened, and I’ve seen her with short hair before, or wraps on her head but I never really thought much about it. So I can believe Chris Rock when he says he didn’t know either.

muppy
Has Chris Rock made any statements post slap ? No one seems to be asking how he is in the aftermath of this. I'm not surprised his comedy show tickets have increased in value. Comics will put their true thoughts and feelings on stage in their performance. this undoubtedly will be true of him . How could it not be. I think Will Smith should be fined by the academy and even suspended from professional appearances. His legally crafted apologies don't impress me. Will Smith is human and made a huge mistake in judgment. He will be forgiven eventually but he needs a timeout in my opinion. He doesn't swear in his raps but he surely did at the academy awards. His cred is in the toilet at this point. Chris Rock you handled that situation as well as anyone could have expected under the circumstances. Im reading that comics now will be fearful they tell a controversial joke they may face physical attack. That to me is really unfortunate and sad.

I Think that if mr smith hadn't have reacted as he did not many would have even remembered that joke and in the moment taken it as it was given, as a quip regarding head shaved women. I think she wears short hair for her own personal expression and style beyond it being a medical condition...she can clearly afford the very best of cosmetic and beauty care/medical advice. ..You know what would have been as powerful/controversial but Non violent? will getting up, take his wifes hand, and walk the heck outta there. The timing of his category being very soon would have prevented that I get it. But THAT expression, equally as powerful, maybe even more so actually........ZERO Violence. Jada reacted, her husband grinned, then he got up from his seat on a fools mission. jmo. Nobody is laughing now.

Something tells me the Pinkett-Smith's love to play the victimhood. ...And Denzel Washington ain't helping! I’m sure you’re probably not aware of this but It’s not really a choice to shave your head. Your hair falls out in big round patches, leaving these big smooth shiny spots of scalp and little patches of hair. The hair also usually doesn’t grow in right. It’ll get an inch or two (or 3) long then start falling out again in some spots. So if you don’t shave it, it can look odd having spots of hair that are 1/4” long and others that are 2” and others that are 5” (etc). My family member with alopecia shaves her head for a few reasons. 1) not a lot of choice when your hair is growing in like that. 2) it’s heart breaking to wake up every morning and have to see a new bald spot on your head. 3) it’s easier to wear wigs with a shaved head. I give Jada a lot of credit for going to the Oscar’s without a wig or any type of head wrap. My family member w/alopecia hasn’t reached that point yet where she feels comfortable in public without a wig (and she’s had it for decades). That’s a courageous step IMO. 1
