If it is an acl tear I'd be more worried he never returns to pre injury form.

That only tends to be a factor with guys who are very reliant on explosive speed. That isn't really Tre's game, so if it is indeed an ACL then unless he has complications arising I would expect he will be fine long term.

Looks like we are going to find out all about Dane Jackson now.   Bills do play a lot of zone, plus I assume the offense will carry the team anyway.   As the offense goes, this team goes.    Give me a better run defense and a high scoring offense; that is probably most important.   If CBs become an issue and Zone D increases, maybe McD goes to more pressure on the QB to compensate.    One guy going down won't kill the D; there are options.

As good as Trey is, has he ever got back to his smothering coverage form of his first two seasons? Maybe I'm completely off with this observation but it seems that he lost a step from that level last year and in some games this year.  Obviously still an all pro overall.  Whats most important about Tre is the respect that teams show to him by 2nd guessing throwing his way. Losing that buffer might be deadly for this defense unless someone steps up.

Yes you are off with that observation. This season his yards per completion given up are their lowest ever at 9.9 and he has given up zero touchdowns. He is absolutely elite, a better player  now than he was in 18 or 19 and sadly irreplaceable.

Anyone who thinks this defense will be BETTER losing a 1st Team All-Pro CB doesn't understand the game of football whatsoever. Our depth is not great in the first place. You think we struggled against the run before? Wait until we're having to compensate by extending more help in coverage. If he's out for an extended period then we may not even make the playoffs. We have the Pats twice, Tampa, and the Panthers with a healthy Christian McCaffrey (at the moment). A 9-8 record is not getting you in this year, if we somehow lose those four. We needed to remain healthy to make run and it doesn't seem to be on our side considering what happened last night. Think about if we run into KC in the playoffs now. Or Tennessee if they have a healthy Julio and AJ Brown. Pittsburgh with Harris on the ground along with Claypool, Johnson, Friermuth, and Washington. Cincy (if they get in) with Mixon to pound the rock on the ground along with Chase, Boyd, and Higgins. We're just not gonna match up well anymore with a lot of the contenders from either conference.

Agreed.  Tre out = curtains.

Injuries happen.  The frustrating part is that corner and guard depth were obvious problem areas during OTAs and the Bills talked themselves out of doing anything to address it.

Nope. I'm actually going to double down. This Bills defense will actually get better if or when Tre is out the rest of the year. Tre wasn't exaclty playing lights out against the Titans & Colts when  they scored a lot of points on us.

Well, there’s a bad take for everything I guess.

I’m going to say the Bills run game will improve if they lose Allen. Who’s with me?

After Josh this is the injury we can afford the least.  Not only is it our poorest depth position but Tre is also the best player on the team and coincidentally one of the energy/glue guys at the same time.

BUT.

But it doesn't mean we're cooked, like a lot of you are saying.  If the Eagles can rally to win the SB with Nick Foles (Nick Foles!) at QB how can we be eliminated by having to play a backup CB or two?  Hurts our chances.  Doesn't end them.

Started looking at some veteran FA corners last night just to see what’s out there. This is going to suck but you can’t just throw away the whole season. Levi is pretty solid. I personally would take my chances moving Taron Johnson outside for the rest of the season. We already know he’s good and I can’t imagine finding anyone better at this stage of the season. I’d play Levi and Johnson on the outside and use Neal in the slot. There are a few guys you can sign that have been decent in the past but nobody overly impressive. Obviously still hope for the best with Tre but you can’t just say the season is over. There are still a lot of really good players on this defense. Certainly more then most if not all of the other AFC teams.

I'm not so sure about that.  Could be Cam Lewis instead.  Based on who's active on the 53, you'd assume it would be Jackson.  But Lewis has played better than Jackson IMO when he has seen the field.  May start with a combo of Jackson, Lewis, and Neal and see who looks the best.

Tre is having an outstanding season. Fans want picks and perfection, but his mere presence makes the rest of the team incredibly difficult to play against. Without Tre, the rest of the team has to cover far more ground, which significantly changes its aggressiveness and makes them far more vulnerable.

People talking about corners that need to step up, but this DL needs to show they can take over games.   They are the main thing that can help minimize the loss of Tre.

If Bryant and/or Ankou impressed, keep them active along with Star, so we can make sure teams aren’t able to get 5+ yards per run.  Keeps teams in longer passing downs and allows us to keep safeties out of the box.  Then hope Ed Oliver continues his emergence, because Colts game aside, he’s been dominating.

That guy was never going to matter IMO. If he had to play we were in serious trouble. This team has championship aspirations. I need guys that you can win in the playoffs with. Levi and Johnson give you that look. Then deal with the slot.

EJ Gaines is still out there , 29 years old and 2 bad knees
