Pending unrestricted free agent Jadeveon Clowney wants to play for contender

Recommended Posts

Clowney is a swiss army knife in the front 7. He can be lined up at Sam LB, either DE spot, nickel/dime DT, or as a LB/DE in a 3-4 scheme. Frazier's defense is at the point now where they can add layers of complexity to confuse even the most experienced of QB's and advance from really good to legendary. Clowney could singlehandedly do this for Frazier. Clowney's impact is not measured in personal sacks as much as it in the statistics of the overall defense. I wouldn't be shocked to learn that Brain Gaine is pushing Beane hard to go after him.

Yesterday he chased Rodgers twice and his speed was tremendous. Rodgers threw away ball to avoid sack. I remembered Clowney's combine when all told he is freak of nature. His 40time was impossible for his size. Pairing with JJ Watt in Houston it looked scary. on paper. In reality it was nothing special.

Me first attitude is worrysome. But we need a real DE instead of Murphy

He certainly knows how to endear himself to a prospective employer... he could stand to employ a press agent, and keep his pie hole closed more frequently, it would up his odds of the contract he want by a fair amount...

That would definitely change if he were playing for the BILLS.

Irrespective of them ignoring that hit on Wentz, he’s one of - if not the most -penalized player in the league. I know he has the most in the league last year

I'll tell you what I aint doing.  I aint paying no sorry defensive end 7 million dollars a sack.  I aint paying him that, not to sit there and watch him collect his check and not play a full season, I'd hate that.

Will you pay him to jump Offside on the regular?

GREEN BAY, Wisc. -- Jadeveon Clowney said his priority in free agency will be to play for a contender.

"I just want to win," the defensive end said after the Seattle Seahawks' season came to an end with a 28-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Lambeau Field. "I'm trying to get to the Super Bowl by any means. That's what I'm looking for: Who's going to get me there? I ain't looking to get on no sorry team for no money. That ain't going to fly. I ain't gonna put my body through all of that just to lose no 16 games, go home with my check. I'd hate that, so that ain't what I'm doing. So if I can't win no Super Bowl, I ain't going to no team that can't win."

Clowney, who turns 27 next month, headlines the list of Seahawks scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in March and will be one of the top available pass-rushers on the market. His first order of offseason business will be to determine if he'll have surgery on the core-muscle injury that has plagued him since Week 10. He said he probably will, though Clowney decided to put off surgery after a November visit to Dr. William Meyers, a core-muscle specialist in Philadelphia.

So on the one hand, the base sentiment seems worthy - he wants to play for a contending team, not collect a big paycheck as the splash FA signing for a “meh” team.

On the other hand, he might just has well have printed a “warning” sticker to paste on his ass, “warning, if you sign me and things go badly Imma go into career preservation mode”

Would be a home run signing for us and anyone who thinks otherwise or just looks at sack totals needs to watch some tape.

Agreed.  The guy was playing hurt and still looked like a difference maker out there.  Yes he had a couple of penalties but he's a monster.

I love to hear a guy who makes no bones about wanting to win.
