This would be a great time to start. My hope is that Cleveland game is going to shake things up offensively; you can't "fake" aggressive. You can't try to micromanage a QB who's biggest asset going forward will be big plays provided he takes a step forward. Yes, they passed 41 times, but I think it's time for the OC to take a step back and let the kid do what he's gonna do. It's my view that Allen is going to thrive when he's not playing scared. It's sports psychology 101. They've essentially asked him NOT to make mistakes. It's like telling a pitcher to stop throwing balls, etc. It just doesn't work that way. They need to start focusing on what he CAN do and I'm thinking/hoping they realize they need to make some changes. They shouldn't be in this predicament in the first place offensively, but what's done is done. Hope for the rest of the season is that Allen decides it's time to just play QB and let the chips fall where they may if he makes some mistakes. This is a really solid post.

Nitro
If they are really going to let the guys play then Allen should have a big day. If he does then the spot light shifts to Daboll and the prior schemes he implemented. Looking forward to this game. Defense will have a big day IMO. Tesla03
I wanna see Allen run for 100+ tomorrow. screw Dabolls dink and dunk offense. We aren't the patriots. Allen needs to do what he knows best and that's scramble and make plays with his feet. Edited November 17, 2019 by Tesla03

That's how close we are to substantially elevating this pass game. And I see no reason that with more experience Allen makes that throw on time. But what the picture doesn't tell you unless you look real close is that Allen is probably already feeling the heat of the Brown's DE who has badly beaten our Tackle on an inside move (I believe that's Garret) so Allen must continue moving to avoid the sack. And what the picture doesn't show you is that on the pass, which was a half second late, Knox doesn't take a step towards the ball which allows the DB to close the gap and bat the ball away. Had Knox took a step forward, like a lot of pass savvy TE's would do, he either catches the ball by shielding it from the DB or the DB commits PI. Finally, while I appreciate DeMarco's help in pointing out the guy breaking open WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING DOWNFIELD on the route. How many times have we hit him with a pass 15 yards field in the middle of the field? Wouldn't he have been more useful helping our tackle block Garret on that play? Just saying. Time and space and how to get the most from them. That's what experience can teach him. So much space and it seemed to both Josh and Dawson that there was more than enough time to make a simple pitch and catch. The defender broke from the middle of the D when Josh started to roll. Lots of bodies in between probably meant Josh never saw him closing on the play. The defender just got there in time. A throw more toward the corner or Knox making two steps toward the ball would make all the difference.

Brianmoorman4jesus
Finally start to phase Gore out. It’s time to make that push for the playoffs and the stretch run. Activate Yeldon and give the ball to Singletary. Singletary needs 25+ touches a game. He should be like our version of Mccaffrey. The change of pace can be Yeldon out of the backfield. Stop handing it to Gore for a drive killing 2 yard run. The guys legs are completely shot. It’s been obvious to me since week 1. It’s starting to actually be noticed by most people now. Run the offense through the Runningbacks...Singletary and Yeldon.

If Daboll does not get the hint, perhaps McD's gloves might come off... Having finally rewatched the Browns game, this take doesn't match what I saw at all. -there were plays that resulted in a reasonably open receiver/TE and a ball delivered not perfectly, but catchable. They did not result in a completion, either because it was beyond the abilities of the receiver, because of uncalled DPI, or because of good defense. I saw about 7 of these, 4 in the first half. It is possible that these are affected by Josh trying too hard to avoid an INT and putting the ball where only the WR can get it, a bit too cautious for the WR to make the grab - not sure. It is also possible that the WR/TE didn't quite run the route as Josh expected. No way we can tell. But they were aggressive play calls, and aggressive throws by Josh, and he completed them at times. Anyone who thinks Tyrod Taylor tries throws like that needs to go back and watch TT games. The Browns have a good, aggressive secondary and they schemed us well. Give them some credit. -there were times when we needed 3-4 yards to move the chains, and the plays dialed up were far more aggressive and lower probability than they could have been- Daboll (or Josh, if he audibled, but he audibles within the structure Daboll gives him) was "going for the Gusto" instead of taking what the D gave him. And these are fundamentally a difference in the game - the difference between a fresh set of downs vs. TOD/punting -the Browns were not stacking the box all day and we left rush yards on the table, especially in the 1st half -Josh had 2 plays we were lucky weren't picked. The worst was a pass intended for Knox (I think) on a scramble drill, but Beasley took it for his and got a hand on it, deflecting it up. Hopefully they got that one worked out. -Josh still has the tendency to roll right under pressure and heave it downfield, he did this at least 2x. At least one actually looked like a designed option. -Garrett is an "edgy" player. He got away with stuff like driving Josh into the ground more than 2-3 steps after Josh threw the ball. He flung a leg out and tried to trip Josh on an OOB run once (think that was him). Totally extra Anyway, my $0.02 is that Daboll does some good stuff, but at times he gets impatient and dials up a "big shot" instead of going for a higher probability dink and dunk that would move the chains. He's trying to take what the D is giving him, but going for the big play when he needs the high-probability play. I think he needs some "sanity checking" and hopefully he gets it. 1
cd1
The way I have seen it is that Daboll does "take chances" but it "seems" that his play calling involves attempts at "trickery". Calling a play that would be least expected; calling a long pass on 3rd and one (ex.) Passing plays time and again instead of, the expected, hand off to Singletary to run it down their throats. If we are gaining yards on running why switch to passing and abandon the run? THAT is what make me question Daboll.

Thanks for acknowledging that it is rational to judge a team over the course of a season rather than one game. If we score on 3rd and goal against NE in the 4th quarter, everyone is thinking we are one of the best teams in the league. That would be clearly inaccurate given our performance in the subsequent games. But there is half the season left at this point, and I think it would be silly to want to fire or “put a stake” through McDermott if they lose today. I agree with you that this would be a deveststing loss, and we would certainly be underdogs against Dallas and Baltimore, but I’m willing to at least let the rest of the season play out before reaching a final judgment on McDermott. It’s why I have been pushing for AJ Green, if healthy, or some major move for a WR1 because Brown is a WR2. We can still draft a WR also but we need that WR1 next year. It won’t fix Josh but it will improve his confidence and give him a true pro offense. I dont forget that at all. My post wasn't negative. It was realizing the reality. He is a project QB with a ton of arm talent. Have to give him time to develop. Brown aint a WR2....hes on pace to come close or surpass Andre Reeds best numbers here for a single season. Your smoking some good stuff. Does Brown LOOK like a WR 1? Not necessarily. Does he go get contested balls like SOME WR 1's? No. But he gets open consistently and catches balls...period. Can't believe people are still in that camp. Yes I agree we could use another WR 1 or an actual WR 2 (Beasley is slot). Josh has weapons, and its helping his development. Could surely use another though, on that I do agree. Edited November 18, 2019 by PaattMaann
