This thread is about Bodine (who was backup C at best) being upgraded to the point that 2 others have played better. The Beane getting a 6th for what in essence was the Bills 4th Center. It's a good thing but you go ahead a spin it however you like. I’d say he was the backup backup center at best.

If you want to scream to the sky that Beane is a wizard for trading a guy he paid to start for a miserable offensive line a year ago and then traded for a 6th then by all means go for it. My glass will be half full when it comes to the Bills when the team starts winning. Ughhh...he didn't pay him to start. He paid him to compete with Groy and he didn't win. His contract was 2 years/$5 million. Well the Pats just gave up a late round draft pick for a 3rd string center who was getting cut....getting cut by the horrible, horrible Buffalo Bills. So let me guess....good move by the Pats?

Quote Bodine has been a solid to average center through his career, but has vast starter experience. As NFL Network's Mike Giardi recently chronicled, players like Bodine have excelled once in New England thanks to legendary offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001045773/article/patriots-trading-for-bills-center-russell-bodine Watch out for soon to be pro bowler, cause you know cheatriots something, whipes chin... Last year's linemen pickups were patchwork players who could at the minimum hold the fort for the short term until the OL could be more substantively addressed when the franchise was going to be in a better cap situation the following year. These mediocre players were part of a flimsy unit. The next year a number of these bargain basement players were weeded out. The players who were brought in were much better and costly. The plan worked out as intended. The bottom line is that for the Bills and Patriots this was a marginal deal. Too many people are trying to overinterpret what transpired. None of the trading partners gained an advantage over the other. A marginal transaction is a marginal transaction.
