Comp Picks?

I think not.  Comp picks only happen if a player's contract expires and the player is not re-signed. (Then there is a complex formula that kicks in, taking into account free agents lost versus free agents signed, and their salaries among other things.  Only the league knows the exact formula they use.)  If a player is cut before his contract expires, he does not figure into comp picks.  In the next off season, it is likely the Bills will be active players in free agency, and probably won't be racking up any comp picks because of it.  Keeping KB probably would not have made a difference.

I have the same question.

If the Bills kept him on the roster for 4 more games, Kelvin Benjamin becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Assuming he signs a decent contract (not sure how likely that is), it factors into the compensatory pick formula.

With the money we will spend this offseason, there is zero chance that we are in contention for comp picks this year.  There was no benefit in waiting until the end of the year for comp picks.

How is anyone praising the regime about this move?  They were with the guy in Carolina and traded a decent pick for him.  He has sucked pretty much since they brought him here.  And like Peterman, they wait far too long to cut him.  Additionally, if they hang on and just bench him for 4 games, they potentially get a comp pick.  The whole Benjamin thing was completely stupid.

but that’s to be expected with a defensive coordinator running your franchise.  Great job with the defense and we throw a parry when we score 17 points.  This regime has been a complete failure on offense.  They have a lot to prove this offseason.

This move does, however, take us from having the worst WR corps in the league to having the way worst WR corps in the league.

Not the way he was dogging it.  It takes us from having the way worst WR corps in the league to having the worst.

This I agree with.  They brought him here intentionally and he's been crap.  IMO he was the biggest counter argument to the whole "culture" commentary.  There's no way he contributed to that in a positive way and yet he stayed and stayed and stayed.  Look up "dog" in the dictionary and there is a picture of Kelvin Benjamin. Add him to the list of guys they brought here on purpose who are no longer with the team.  It's getting pretty long already.

Great move by the F.O ...talent does not trump desire....kelvin benjamin from the beginning of the year had a horrible attitude

that ridiculous spat with newton..celebrating like a serious game vs the panthers in pre season then after week 1 realizing he

was looking dumb he just mailed it in..his effort has been atrocious last game was just the last straw.

Someone is likely going to quickly kick the tires on Benjamin given his past performance in Carolina

I couldn't care less where this idiot lands, he's never going to be a big time receiver. Slow & lazy. Even 50 50 balls were easily knocked out.

Benjamin, a first-round pick of the Panthers in 2014, was in the final season of his rookie contract and was scheduled for unrestricted free agency in March. Any team claiming Benjamin off waivers would owe him the remaining portion of his $8.5 million base salary this season. If he is not claimed off waivers, the Bills would owe Benjamin the remainder of his fully guaranteed salary.- Per ESPN

Don’t give McBeane to much credit; as we could have benched him and let him go as an unrestricted free agent.

Never let a shot at McBeane go to waste.

Thank goodness this never gets old.

I think the reaction is more like "Finally!" rather than "Great move!"

Every GM in the league is gonna make mistakes.  The difference is whether and when they realize it and move on.  And you can't have a guy who is dogging it like KB on the team.  Not and be taken seriously as a coach when you speak of effort.

I think the comp pick is a non issue.  If we spend a fraction of our cap space on free agents, no comp pick.

Exactly. At last Vontae Davis had the good sense to realize he was useless. KB needed someone to point it out to him.

You cut lazy workers, even at a loss. Te only person who could possibly have a problem with this decision is, say, a one-trick pony who only whines about management with every freaking post.

They were with this guy when he showed up looking like a o linemen in Carolina.  Yet, they traded a draft pick for him and started him for basically a full season.

They were with the lazy worker in Carolina and then brought him to Buffalo.

this. obv beane thought he would be productive enough to warrant the compensation he had atleast shown in carolina the ability to be competent 70 catches 800-900 yards

Yesterday, McDermott was asked about Allen's INT and he said Allen got fooled, but "we're going to have to trim some of the fat off that route" run by Kelvin Benjamin.

Well, the Bills just trimmed that fat.

don't get too comfortable Charles you're next. Somewhere Brandon Reilly is saying "really"?

I wish they’d have just made him inactive the rest of the season.

Letting him go and potentially being picked up by a team heading to the playoffs is exactly what he wanted.

It may be what he wanted.  It may even be what he'll get.

Whether he'll be able to help that team and prove himself is another issue.  Dogging it gets to be a habit, just like anything else a fella keeps doing.

Remember when we were all stressed that "Super Mario" went to Miami and would be revitalized into the Big Bad Wolf to eat our little lambkins?  The Mario Williams who had 13 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 13 games for the 'Phins and was out of the league the following year?

Yeah.

Yeah.

I mean it is possible he gets pissed because of this and plays better for someone else because he sure wasn't playing with any emotion here.

He's been doing it all season.  What made Miami different?

Probably some kind of McDermott KB private pep-talk before the Miami game that went like, "if you give up or loaf on one more route, or alligator-arm one more pass you chicken-s##t, you're out of here."
