Phil The Thrill
I don’t get the status of Derek Anderson. He leaves the game versus NE on 10/29 with an apparent concussion and is placed in concussion protocol. 6 weeks later he’s still in concussion protocol!?!? It seems like a very long time. So are the Bills just trying to keep him on the roster without activating him? I know he was signed to mentor Allen but why don’t they just hire him on the coaching staff? Does anyone thing he’ll ever be off the injury report?
longtimebillsfan
Do you think they are just using this to keep Anderson off the field. He may have told management that " I signed up to mentor Allen, but don't put me on the field again"? Mrbojanglezs
He never wanted to play. They have Barkley now so he probably wants to just "coach"

Rc2catch
They signed him to “play” that didn’t go well. He’s just here to finish the season, no reason to transition his role in the organization. He may not want to be a coach or whatever and is just collecting a quick check helping out the team. Win win for everyone

Only thing is there probably are big penalties for falsifying injuries like that, so I don’t know what’s up. If head injuries are this big of an issue, he should just retire
NoHuddleKelly12
This def strikes me as an odd situation; is this out of the ordinary in terms of length of time in the protocol? I understand every case is different but he has been back out on the practice field throwing the ball

Royale with Cheese
Well this is a bit long for concussion symptoms but it does happen time to time. Morneau of the Twins has it for a year I believe.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch
Either way he's not likely going to be active unless either Barkley or Allen were to get hurt. Wonder if ther's any type of $$ advantage if you're in concussion protocol maybe consdiered active for some type of bonus $$ where if inactive he doesn't get paid. So they agreed to keep him that status??

SlimShady'sSpaceForce
EMy tin foil hat theory. He came to mentor and not to play. There is no reason to be out a month with a concussion and not be put on IR. Edited December 2, 2018 by ShadyBillsFan

However, if you don't get enough rest or follow your doctor's recommendations, recovery may take a bit longer. sure you can find articles that say 100 days. But in the NFL 2 weeks is typically the norm.

Boatdrinks
He was not expect8ng to play and is milking the concussion protocol so he doesn’t get waived with an injury settlement. Who stays in the protocol for a month in the NFL ?

DA is just about twice as long.
Brianmoorman4jesus
The crazy thing is, with Allen Barkley and tech Anderson on the roster: it is the most comfortable I have been with a group of Bills QBs in well over a decade. I feel like all 3 of those guys can play and I’m not afraid of an injury for the first time in a while. When EJ was the backup you might as well have canceled the season if the starter got hurt. Same with Peterman.

Freddie's Dead
The bills can't cut him or put him on IR until he clears the protocol, so until he clears, he's on the team.
TigerJ
Hopefully, by the time the Bills need a third string QB to step in and play, Derek will be ready. Concussions vary greatly in severity and recovery time. Obviously, he had a bad one. He would be inactive if he were healthy anyway.
