In the 24 games since McDermott got here... we have started the following QBs:

Tyrod Taylor - 14 Games

Nathan Peterman - 5 Games (after this week)

Josh Allen - 3 Games

Derek Anderson - 2 Games

Joe Webb - 0 Games (Played in 1)

AJ McCarron - 0 Games

Matt Barkley - 0 Games

Nothing that hasn't been stated already, but this is downright unbelievable.

Say what you want about clearing cap space, trusting "the process", tanking and rebuilding, etc...

I'm not sure how this position could be more mismanaged or get any worse than it is right now.  This cannot reflect well on McDermott at all.

So what was the correct course of action?

Keep McCarron or get a veteran after training camp.  Peterman was way too risky to keep with Allen as the two quarterbacks on the roster.

McCarron was pretty bad. Which veteran would you have brought in?

In hindsight?  Pushing hard to sign Teddy Bridgewater and using all that draft capital to improve the OL and WR.

IMO, without using hindsight (if that is possible)

Year 1:  Start the incumbent (Taylor), sign a solid #2 and keep Nathan on the Practice Squad.

Year 2:  Cut Taylor, Draft Josh, Re-sign the #2 from 2017 if he played well, otherwise replace with another solid #QB.  Promote Nathan from PS to be your #2.  Go into season with 3 QB's, one of which has 32+ games experience.

Worse than Peterman?  Peterman's track record in regular season games was abysmal.  I think you had to keep McCarron until Peterman proved that he could go a quarter without throwing an interception.

So when McDermott inevitably gets fired he has a QB coach job as he seems to be a QB guru coach in the making. Definite  eye for QB talent.

I'm not a fan of McClappy at all.  That being said, except for a few isolated moments from Bledsoe and Fitzy, the same can be said for every other HC and QB here in Buffalo since Kelly retired.  It's the nightmare that won't end.

These don't matter in that it wasn't McD or Beane or even the Pegulas in charge. This year has been bad enough LOL

Well I am of the opinion Allen can be quite good! But a team still needs a least one decent backup. Anderson as a mentor was also a late but good addition. Injuries compounded the bad stuff.

And to add to the point, in 24 regular season games under McD, here are the game counts by yardage for the high passer:

300+ yds: 0

250-299 yds: 3 (Taylor-2, Anderson-1)

200-249 yds: 6 (Taylor-5, Allen-1)

100-199 yds: 9 (Taylor-6, Allen-2, Anderson-1)

<100 yds: 6 (Taylor-1, Peterman-2, Allen-3)

Are you kidding me?!  21 sub 250 yd games and 6 under 100. ???

Can’t wait to see Peterman again. He might be a diamond in the rough

With our crap offensive roster, it really is a shame what they've done to poor Nate Peterman.

Put this guy on the Chiefs and he'd be shattering records.

You can’t fairly judge Peterman yet given what he has to work with.

Well he did have that amazing pedigree and track record to hang tour hat on knowing he very well will one day become a franchise QB. It's not like his scouting report had him as being a 'Backup QB' at best.

The Browns probably wouldn't have draft Mayfield this year if the Bill's would have only let them have Peterman instead of Taylor....

It's wearisome listening to all the negativity on this site. It used to be a great place for meaningful dialog but it's sadly turning into a place where people overreact and make overly critical statements but never a solution.

So I would really appreciate hearing specifically what would you have done differently this season considering our cap situation.

I am confused. Why did you say STARTED but then list Joe Webb, AJ McCarron and Matt Barkley as starting 0 games ?

Well not putting yourself into this poor cap situation might be the first thing. Keeping some talent around and build off of it instead of dumping everyone and having to bring in your own guys.

What is there to be positive about if your not drinking the Koolaid that "everything will be alright, the process will right the ship!"? Its negative around here because there very little to actually be positive about with this team right now and things are getting worse and not better.

How about not putting us in this cap situation to begin with?

Who was dumped that should have been kept?

In hindsight, yes. But Peterman appeared to be better than McCarron in the preseason.

Play Tyrod until someone was better. So far no one is better than Tyrod.

I can see that, although getting a 3rd for Tyrod was pretty good value, especially since he went to the Browns and sucked bad enough to get benched.
