No, I don't support Socialism.

 

But guess what, none of the candidates support Socialism. Hell, even though Bernie calls himself a "Democratic Socialist," even his system is based on a capitalist foundation and isn't pushing for solely a centrally planned economy with nationalized production.

 

But regardless of Bernie not being an outright Socialist, I don't like how far left he is. Or Warren. It's why I'm glad I still really don't think either gets the nomination.

 

But our country's presentation of health care as a privilege rather than a right needs to go away. I'm not a big fan of the single payer system, which is why I liked the candidates who talked about universal health care in other ways, like fixing the problems that are there and have been with Obamacare, which is what I think will ultimately happen in some form, no matter who is in office because the law is already there and there will be the House and Senate to contend with.

 

But as much as socialism is demonized, we have plenty of socially supported programs and infrastructure and so on that you and I use and benefit from every day that to lay claim that we'd suddenly cross that line into socialism because of what will ultimately be one or maybe two major changes in our country is just ridiculous.

 

I guess I'm curious myself: tell me @Deranged Rhino do you believe we should pay zero taxes?

A religion discussion is relevant in this instance considering you're claiming Communism and Socialism are responsible for over 100 million deaths.

 

So I guess I would ask, to what degree are the ideologies themselves responsible for those deaths? Hell, communist/socialist ideology wasn't remotely connected to the Nazi regime's reason for slaughtering Jews. That was actually more of a religious reason than anything.

Lifelong Democrat (in fact, still registered as one). Never been to church, except for a few weddings.

I originally came to this board in early 2015, to call out the posters as sexist for not supporting Hillary. Came back a few months later.... to apologize.

I’ll begin with that fact that the major world religions acted as a function of their time in their killing.  Or will you now argue that the feudal, colonial, and pre-industrial ages, especial pre-Enlightenment, offer the same ideological function as they do today?  Speak to the reformation.

 

I’ll next offer that no feudal Christian Papists are running for office.  Not one.  There are plenty of Marxists running, however; and they still all advocate the same structural belief that made those arguing theocracy so abominable:  they advocate for state violence against dissent.

 

The single thread these ideas all have in common, the thing that makes them so abhorrent, is the fact that they are ideologies of brutality and oppression.  “agree with me at the barrel of a gun”.

 

The individuals you support are the stewards of that idea.

I think you would find a lot fewer than you think. Just because people support what Trump is doing, make fun of the clown show on the Left, and see the harm that has been inflicted on our country, doesn't mean everyone is a Republican.

 

President Trump is the first Republican presidential nominee that I have ever voted for (my 7th election to vote in). He will also be the second. I've always been an independent and have tossed my vote to the Libertarian Party, in the hope of the rise of a valid 3rd option.

  Hillary at Papa Bush's funeral certainly was fun viewing.  The big question is will Bill be deteriorated to the point where he will be wheeled in fully asleep by a health aide?  If Bill does awaken does he uncontrollably lear at some younger woman not appropriately dressed for a funeral as opposed to a night club?

  They want Biden off of the stage.  He is not a raging lefty and is not holding the party hostage like Hillary did.  Biden is not even yesterday's news for most people under the age of 50.  In the name of progress they do want a woman or a homosexual to be the next POTUS.  The debates were setup in a way for Warren and Harris to take advantage due to not facing one another directly.

  I think that Jimmy goes before Bill but it is somewhat surprising to see how Bill has aged physically.  I don't see Bill living to 85 at this point.  I still think Hillary is on a mission to get herself elected and if that does not come to be in 2020 then she lives to attempt to place Chelsea in the White House.  But despite her deal with the devil I don't see her going past 85.

 

  I think for most traditional Big Labor or Big Government Democrats it is Biden that they want and maybe they would warm to Tulsi Gabbard if we are getting a true glimpse of who she is.  

 

  The GOP today is not the party of Reagan.  Today's GOP is about getting into the damn country club anyway possible damn the ethics.  The old GOP consisted of bankers that would never approve an auto loan for more than 4 years never mind double the expected lifetime of a vehicle.  It might have hurt a few people but for the vast majority it made people live within their means.
