First one was a touch easier to make. Still working on the other. Idea number one is a modified version that is a white Buffalo on a red helmet (letting us go back to full red, white and blue). Yes, I'm aware how terrible the white on red "throwback" helmet was, but I actually like the look of this. If I recall, the white Buffalo was actually considered sacred in Native American culture, which is why the Sabres keep using it in that color. Sadly I lack the skill to mock it onto a helmet. This time it's the Buffalo I used above, but this time it's a red buffalo meant for a white helmet, a throwback to the old standing Buffalo helmet from long gone days. And again, sadly, I don't have the skill to mock this logo onto a helmet. I think this would look pretty sharp with our current uniforms. However, this one was brought in-line with our current logo and helmet color. I cleaned up the image, recolored the buffalo blue this time, and added a stripe. I'm actually kinda fond of this one. In our current logo, the horn is vertical, while this one is almost horizontal, and that's before you even get to the pose. It would be cool to have multiple uniform combo options. Even to wear those hideous Drew Bledsoe Era away uniforms would be cool once every few seasons. NFL says fit issues and break in issues increase health risk to player. Teams can do throwback games but must use same helmet as regular helmet so can not change color for historical accuracy. They just change the logos/stripes. Bills red standing Bison logo is on the same helmet player wears with charging bison. Stripes also changed out so the mullet is not worn on throwback games. This severely limits throwbacks.(my solution for Bills wanting to use a red helmet is take the current helmet player is wearing and use a red wrap like vehicles get. Then put throwback decals stripes stickers on it. Seahawks tried to break tradition when they changed to new matte Navy helmets and added lime to team look. Originally they wanted wear the matte Navy at home and the Silver helmet on road, both with same logos. They applied to NFL and NFL denied it. They then held fan poll and the fans choose the Navy they have today. JMO: NFL wants uniformity in marketing the main primary logo and the helmet is part of that projection. In contrast if NFL allowed teams to wear 20 radically different helmets and logos like Oregon and Maryland in NCAA it could confuse the landscape for marketing. Could cause confusion on what team does each diff style represent. Of course a few exceptions might be ok but I would hate if Bills for example all of a sudden rolled out some crazy star wars logo on helmet for a couple games a year and kept changing this every year. It would get weird. They could even put a pink logo on for cancer awareness month which would be puke. A local HS football team near me swaps out the silver main logo(on black helmet) decal for a pink one every year. One year they wore it ALL year. Overkill to the highest. The accents could be put on a little different to give more of a 3d look by gradiant shading the red coming off on sides of the navy accents to give more illusion of depth. I've encountered quite a few people (almost all women; almost) over the years who are mystified by the name. Think about it. There's not really any American sports team nickname that's similar. Name of a city, with the city name serving as an adjective for a person. We had an era of weird names in the 70s - the old WFL (which nobody remembers) had the "Chicago Fire" and such. We currently have teams with place names as adjectives - think "Colorado Rockies." But Buffalo Bills? Why? Why didn't we ever have a logo that featured Buffalo Bill Cody in a kind of swashbuckling, Tampa Bay Bucs style? After all, the team was named in pre-PC days when a gunslinging Bill Cody on a horse would've been just fine. And why then is the logo the Buffalo, the prey and not the predator? No wonder we're 58 games under .500 in franchise history. Then again, "Buffalo" is supposed to be a corruption of "Belle Fleuve" ("Beautiful River"). I vote that we change the city's name first. The Belle Fleuve Falls would work for the football team. Logo of Niagara Falls or a casino or something.
