Hazed and Amuzed
I've said it before, Doug Whaley is our best shot at returning to glory. Many wanted to crap on him for the Byrd situation, however that's why he gets paid to put together a team an they don't.

Jerry Jabber
So far, Henderson, Graham, and Dixon have been great picks/signings by Whaley. Henderson has been playing above anyone’s expectations of him. Graham has been the Bills best CB throughout two games. Dixon had a great run against the Bears last week and a blocked punt yesterday. I like the fact that we're back to having dedicated special teams guys. Sure, I won't be thrilled if there's an injury and we have Chris Hogan playing downs at WR but I'm still happier to have him than TJ Graham overall. Same goes for Boobie Dixon. Bryce Brown is the more promising rusher, but Dixon provides so much in the oft-forgotten third phase.

stevewin
For Henderson specifically it was less about recognizing his talent (which every team was aware of) and more about willingness to take a risk on him due to off the field concerns (if you consider a flyer on a 7th rounder a big risk)
BigBuff423
I really liked the move when the BILLS took Whaley as their Assistant GM, but have absolutely believed in him as the GM since he was promoted and all of the moves he's made...I certainly did, and to a lesser extent still do, have my reservations about EJ Manuel and much has been debated about whether EJ was DW's decision, or Nix's decision, or a combination of those two, but other than still having some questions about EJ, DW has been incredible for this organization. The moves, and the lack thereof as someone earlier referred to Byrd, has shown he's willing to make the difficult choices...Byrd is a good player, and I'm sure they wish they could have kept him, but good GM's, see Ozzie Newsome and Ted Thompson, know to value *POSITIONS* over players when it comes to doling out the big money...and Safety just isn't a position you over-invest in...LT, QB, MLB, DE and CB are all positions you place the greatest amount of money and value in, with some other key pieces such as Center and WR to some extent as well...but players also have to understand that you can't give everyone all the money they want, which is why football is so fantastic. There is a limit and creativity within that limit to some extent, but it produces parity and DW has done exceptionally well thus far...I hope he can continue the job he's done, b/c like many others I think he is crucial to the future of the BILLS' success. 26CornerBlitz
Kiko may have to earn his starting job back the way Preston Brown is playing. Can't agree with that at all. Kiko is a starter as soon as he's back to full health. He's a perfect WLB in the Schwartz scheme. I believe Brown would be the starting MLB if the Bills don't sign Spikes to an extension. Not just the coaching, but also the approach the FO took with him when they told him, this is probably your last chance to get it right and then surrounding him with good men and professionals to help him come along and develop not only his game, but his maturity....sometimes, for someone struggling with personal issues a change in scenery is a big help and can advance their personal change all the more...all conjecture at this point, and still a long season to go and hopefully many, many more successful seasons for Henderson with the BILLS, but early signs look promising.... My only question was how did the guy last til the 7th round if that was true? I mean Aaron Hernandez was drafted in the 4th round with a similar scouting report. Makes me think that the Aaron Hernandez situation has scared off a lot of teams from taking these types of on field talent off field headache players. I would really like to see Cyrus kicked into guard. If he can hit at guard the O-line has a 4-5 year window to be stellar. Brown has played 100% of snaps through two weeks. Spikes got 15 snaps yesterday. I love Spikes but I don't see a big offer in his future. If Spikes is willing to be a running down specialist I could see him having a nice role on this team. But I am not sure that after this season (When the team will have Kiko coming back) if he is going to want to stay with a team that will only be using him as a prominent role player. I think the Bills would offer him solid money (2.5ish million a year) for multiple years to do that role. But another team with a huge need at LB might offer him more. Which is interesting regarding his snap count, b/c I thought Spikes was a beast last week and was surprised when I kept looking for his number but didn't see him on the field...this explains why I didn't see him of course, but doesn't explain why he played so little...and just like with Robert Woods not getting a lot of catches, I wouldn't look at Spikes' absence as anything more than a game-plan...IMO of course

Many wanted to crap on him for the Byrd situation, however that's why he gets paid to put together a team an they don't. let's do a quick rundown on whaley's offseason moves this week. -byrd was part of a saints defense that has looked god awful. -corey graham had a beast of a day for the second week in a row. -dixon had a blocked punt -spikes helped shut down forte last week, and i believe he helped shut down miller fter moreno went out. -his first pick the one people, myself included, said he traded too much for had over 100 yards and a touchdown -preston brown had 12 tackles -randall johnson recovered the blocked punt -henderson, a 7th round pick rookie, outplayed a probowler -and my favorite, hughes was a constant presence and had a sack, while the man whaley traded him for couldn't crack the battered miami staring roster and is only noted for whiffing on cj's return. so far, well done whaley
