Curious if they let him work back on the PS and at that point who knows what we need to do at WR. From what I've heard any team that signs him now would have to put him on IR right away... Physically he isn't ready yet. If he wants to hang out in Buffalo and use our renowned training facilities and be there as our break glass in case of emergency option, I'd have no problem with that. 4 Quote

Mack Hollins was never supposed to be relied on as heavily as he was. It was just a matter of Keon Coleman not being ready for primetime out of the gate and Curtis Samuel being hampered for the majority of the year with injuries. And ultimately, his even being here had to do with what we could afford at the time. Hollins was always brought in to be mainly a Blocker and Special Teams ace. He wasn't someone in their long term plans as a WR. Extenuating circumstances and him overachieving led to a bigger role and more production than expected. Even then, his abilities and what he did last season are greatly exaggerated by Bills fans. In 20 games and 15 of those him starting, he put up 482 yards and 6 TD's. That's a lot more than was expected of him. But that's still not great numbers. When the time came that we could do more at the position, you want to have someone more talented there than Mack Hollins playing as much as he was. And as likeable as Hollins is as a character, Josh Palmer is world's more talented as a WR. We signed Mack Hollins to a 1 year 2.6m contract with 1.1m guaranteed. The Patriots signed him to a 2 year 8.4m contract with 3.5m guaranteed. That's a massive pay raise and a longer term contract. We were already looking to upgrade from him. We were never going to match the kind of money and role NE was offering. And that was the right call. The best thing going for Mack Hollins vs Gabe Davis was that the Bills knew Mack’s sweet spot in usage. The Bills, and Josh in fairness, had a long history of giving Gabe a target share he didn’t really deserve to the team’s detriment imo. Gun to my head, who is better blocking and getting 30-40 targets out there over a season? It’s Gabe imo. But is Mack at 40 targets better than Gabe at 70? I think that’s a debate 1 1 2 Quote

This , imo , would be a failure on multiple levels Should he have be resigned in the first place if you’re willing to bring him back , tho prob a cheaper price? Given all the issues with receivers , and bad contracts Beane has done with WRs , should he perhaps apologize to the radio personalities and fans he got snippy with who were critical of him not drafting any wr other than a 7 th rounder who is already not making the team? This is another example of Beane failing to provide Allen w adequate support, and being arrogant about his wr corp while they frankly have underperformed. We were the only team shut out last week and it’s obvious our wr corp keeps faling to make plays. Just compare Allen’s support wr corp to what Burrows has in Cincinnati; it’s startling! We are so desperate now to consider bringing in Davis , known for critical drops and unavailability? That’s a joke Beane is totally responsible for. Compare our preseason to watching teams like the bengals and Washington, or even Chicago. It’s the quality of individual performances by Bills players that’s is just frankly poor quality to the eye test , below the quality of other teams backups. Again , our o was THE ONLY TEAM SHUT OUT THIS WEEK. Even tho the score or w/ l means nothing , there is a bigger picture of or wr corp dropping balls , unavailability with multiple guys , and lack of playmaking. Backups on every other team at least allowed their offenses to score. I know our starters should be adequate , but there is no promise year to year. Every year we have stretches of WRs unavailable to injury , so backups matter. I can’t believe they want to look at Davis but not utilize a guy with potential like shavers who has been consistent this year. If they sign davis rather than roster shavers , this would be the first time I would begin to lose faith in McD and Beane ,,repeating the same things that they failed to reach the sb in the past. Beans signings like Samuel’s , Moore just look lackluster ; hollins proved to be a good addition but they let him end up in New England. Scores in preseason may mean nothing , but you can judge the talent of backups compared to other teams backups. We have looked fundamentally bad and imo , we have played some of the worst football of all teams in the two games so far. It’s fair to have opinions on the quality of the backup players , given this teams injury history come playoff time, given this is supposedly a SB competing roster. Revising Davis is a failure of beanes process , including not addressing that position earlier in the draft. We were the ONLY TEAM shutout , so it’s fair to say there is honest room for concern and so far we have no proof the o will continue to be productive. They better be as this d has shown no solutions to last years 3 rd down or long yardage d failures. Thats not overreacting, it reacting to the talent level observed in actual competition. THE STARTERS are great. Yet they are never available 100% of the time , excluding Allen. The entire roster matters. The ravens will be a big challenge as will a 17 game schedule. We need to get the one seed. I’m not sure I feel confident this roster as it is now looking will have enough talent. Mcd 7 playoff wins , Allen 6 playoff wins , both most with no SB appearances. The process may not be ultimately working. Did you watch any throws for the bears game? The WR where not at fault. Quote
harmonkillebrew Posted Wednesday at 12:18 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:18 AM If so, would Gabe immediately be the 2nd best WR on the team? In terms of actual NFL production, yeah. Quote

DCofNC Posted Wednesday at 12:37 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:37 AM FFS, the guy accounted for more INTs than JA threw all of last season when he was gone. As long as there are ABSOLUTELY no option routes on his dimly lit tree, I guess it’s ok. 2 Quote
BigDingus Posted Wednesday at 12:59 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:59 AM It's going to be sad if both of the Chiefs early pick WRs develop into legit weapons. Rashee Rice looked like he was on his way to becoming a true WR1, while Xavier Worthy was developing into a big home run threat. People defend Beane's early round draft failures saying it's partially because we pick so late each round, yet the Chiefs actually pick later than us. And so far they've managed to get their D right before us, find an All Pro CB before us, draft at least one great WR before us... We already couldn't beat them despite their injuries & missing weapons, or when they had to finally play on the road, but now they continue to add great players & all while staying in better cap shape than us. Beane has had 8 drafts now, and we've only found 1 star player in the early rounds & several good - very good players in the later rounds. But we need more ELITE players on both sides of the ball. The fact this team got to the AFCCG with 1 All Pro is a miracle. 3 1 Quote

They beg for guys constantly that are less than marginal. Now they don’t want this guy. A guy that Josh has chemistry with. Gabe Davis as your 4th option is excellent for this offense. These 2 on the morning show are an absolute embarrassment I don’t think Josh had great chemistry with him. so many of Josh’s negative plays were Gabe. 1 1 1 Quote

But that was with Dorsey. By week 12 of 2022 everything was a mess on offense. Brady - even the chemistry with Diggs was off. Everyone was adjusting so I’m not going to just say Davis was THE problem. I think if they keep 6 WRs Gabe is the guy that brings something to the table only Keon has and that’s blocking. All the other guys are the same. Don’t hate the idea really. Could also PS Gabe. He plays when Samuel misses inevitable time.
