Despite all the frustration cornerback Kaiir Elam experienced during his deeply disappointing three-year association with the Buffalo Bills, the 2022 first-round pick almost always stayed out of the noisy discourse that surrounded him.

But Monday when he met with the media in Dallas following his trade from the Bills to the Cowboys, Elam released some pent up aggravation.

 

“Coming to Buffalo, I was a kid that just wanted to improve and learn and really show off my talents, but I was always put in the back seat,” Elam said.

 

 

Elam’s style of play never fit Sean McDermott’s system and the coaching staff was never able to get him to adapt, and there were rumors that former defensive backs coach John Butler never really had faith in Elam.

“I continued to put my head down and work, continued to make plays throughout the season and in the playoffs and stuff like that,” Elam said. “I just took everything I learned from there and all the baggage and improvements I felt like I needed to make and just packaged it up and worked on it every day. I don’t really see it as a negative. I really just see it as a growing opportunity for me to go shine somewhere else.”

Beane says all the time he wants football players.  But it does seem to me they value RAS over tape a lot.

I think he might have a different definition of “making plays in the playoffs” than the rest of us.

It was shocking how out of position he was at times. Like, 15yds away from his guy because of a double move or something similar. I have zero doubt that he will bounce around for another couple of years and be done. Teams go right at him as much as they want to, so he has a real uphill battle to try and prove that he belongs on a roster at all.

I hope for his sake that a change of scenery and new voices coaching him help. At times he just looked nervous as hell out there to me, knowing they were going to come at him. My older son had that look in HS when they played Pahokee and their future NFL players in the state playoffs. Scared as hell I tell you!  😂

 

He’s got physical tools, but maybe he needs some peace between his ears.

It's technically true that he has the most playoff INTs of any Bills defender in the McDermott era. 

 

Of course that's only 2 INTs and they came against Skylar Thompson and Mason Rudolph...

I honestly wouldnt care less.   Sometimes players just dont work here.   Be a lot more upset if it was a wideout or a defensive end.  #2 Cornerbacks can be found.

90% of guys who make these type of comments clearly didn’t learn their lesson about why they were failures at their old team.  It takes a hard look in mirror and being humble about why you failed.

He was here when Hyde, Poyer, Tre, Milano, Miller, Marlowe, Jordan Phillips, Johnson, etc. had the Bills defense roaring with energy, pride, and style. If he didn't fit in with that group than he will have a hard time anywhere.

Energy will only get you so far.   You also have to play with intelligence and technique.  I am sure the Bills coaches did stop caring for Kair when they realized he refused to play with intelligence and technique.     I tell my kids all the time.   Dont worry about when a coach yells at you.  Worry when they stop talking to you.

He needs something between his ears but I am not sure it’s peace.  Good luck to him, but I would not expect much if I were a Cowboys fan.
