The booths on the US side are for people entering from Canada aren’t they?

There are multiple booths on the US side. There are booths where you pay the toll to cross on the outgoing traffic side. There are also booths in the incoming traffic side from Canada.

Should have just waited and said "I don't know"... just a sad and frenetic situation.

Yeah. Except I had inside information at the time of the incident

Gotcha, been a long time since I crossed that bridge.

I know it pretty good. Based on the pics I saw it appeared to be in the US side heading into Canada. A few things I didn’t know is the car flew through the air several hundred feet. So at this point I don’t know where it took off from or where it landed. Etc. I just know the picks I saw didn’t appear to be the incoming lanes into the US. I also don’t think the car would have been able to get up to speed fast enough from the Canadian side of the bridge to the US side.

He never passed the inspection booths. He was in the wrong lane and approached the bridge from the US side.

Which, for the uninformed, has had a recall order for sticking accelerators.

Wow, that is a simple potential explanation  for the crazy acceleration and speed in a spot designed to make it difficult for people to rapidly navigate barriers.

He was never on the bridge or even intentionally approaching the checkpoint from either side, wrong way or not.  The vehicle in question has a top speed of approximately 200mph, and gained speed with the stuck accelerator going up Main Street.  It ramped off the median where Main turns off towards the bridge, cleared the fence, and landed in the secondary screening area where they search cars on the US intake side.

We have a contact that knows the family of the driver.  Apparently the accelerator stuck and he went into the plaza at the end of the bridge, went airborne and the car exploded when it crashed

This is a known issue. But unless something else went wrong applying the brakes should stopped the car. The brakes will override the accelerator (that was from multiple mechanics that specialize in all VW products esp Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini)

Throw it in neutral? Slam the brakes? I don’t know, hard to say when panic sets in if it wasn’t a medical condition.

That. And maybe there was someone driving that was like, no way I’m going to blow the motor in my $100-300 car

Had it happen on an old GTO I had in college, the bolt that held the gas pedal on the nut came off and it slid into the carpet, got up to 100 mph on a residential street, with only a couple hundred yards left. I kind of spazzed and stomped on the gas pedal about 10!times before it broke free🤦‍♂️in the moment I didn’t even think about sliding into neutral. Happens so quick not much time to think. My two passengers pretty much crapped their pants.

Panic sets in quick ... I had that happen to me on an 86 Thunderbird years ago. At first I was pressing down on the brake pedal as hard as I could with both feet, then I threw it in neutral and pulled over, I was on the highway. I thought it was going to blow the engine it was revving so high. I had it towed and it turned out to be a broken engine mount that caused the accelerator to stick.

What?  Are you trying to make some sort of political statement here?

I have idea what you are trying to say.

BTW, we don't study ethics or philosophy at St. Joe's.

I did in undergrad though!

I'd guess he's trying to say that mocking the sudden deaths of two people who have a friend actually posting in this thread is pretty freaking ignorant.

Political?  Hell, no, you're just an a******.  And you did have at least three years of religious education there, which should have instilled at least a basic sense of morality in you.

You can usually tell a lot by the initial reaction of police agencies. They act different, you can hear it. They knew instantly it was a 500-600hp Bentley. Not your average car

Not the FBI, apparently...

The car involved was a 2022.  The recall ends with 2021 models and is right hand drive cars only.  At least what i found on the net
