I sincerely doubt they have to give up their first. Rodgers just eliminated most of GB’s leverage.

The jets can’t run it back with Wilson now. The packers have the leverage. There are other teams that would trade for him as well

Both teams have plenty of leverage. Packers cant NOT move him at this point either. Hence why they have been at a stalemate.

Rodgers said he’ll play for the Jets or retire. What other team would trade for him under those circumstances? It’s over. He won the stand-off.

That's news to me. Not necassarily doubting it, but I hadnt heard him state that so clearly. If so, then the Jets have absolutely zero leverage, and GB can demand anything they want. The sticking point before was if GB doesn't move him, there's no reason for Rodgers to not show up and collect his $35M, and $50M fully guaranteed each year for the next 3 seasons.

That makes sense. Here’s a LINK to an article about it. I actually thought it was a statement by his agent, but it’s a rumor that this is what he told his agent. So I’ll back off of my stance too. IF this is true, then GB has no leverage. If not, then they still have some.

As long as Green Bay has Rodgers under contract, they have plenty of leverage.  And they absolutely can extract at least pick number 13 from the Jests...my guess is that they are holding out for additional picks, as well.  The Jets aren't rolling with Wilson again in 2023 and I doubt they want to use pick 13 on the fourth or fifth best QB in this mediocre class...

With the 5th pick of the 2023 Virgil mock draft (version 3.0), the Seattle Seahawks select:

Jalen Carter, Defensive Tackle, Georgia

Full disclosure, if he was here the Seahawks were taking Anthony Richardson. Once he wasn't we considered an opportunity to move back but were not interested in acquiring more picks in this draft, we wanted picks to move up next year for Geno's replacement. The other team wasn't interested in giving up 2024 capital so we stayed put and picked the best football player in the draft. Carter might have off the field concerns but I've got Pete freaking Carroll as my Head Coach and nobody does a better job of channelling a wayward soul into a darn good football player than Pete. Defensive Tackle is a big need too. Once we were picking at this spot it was a no brainer.

@NewEra and the knee cap biting Detroit Lions are on the clock.

We tried to trade up one spot for Carter but the price of picks in next years draft were too steep considering that Jared Goff is still our starter.

With the 6th pick, the Detroit Lions select -Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois.

We have a clear need at corner and love what Witherspoon brings to the table.  Intelligence, ferocity, confidence, man ability. He’s a true lockdown corner in our opinion.  Add that to being one of the best CB run defenders we’ve ever seen…. This kid is special.

@turftoeand the raiders are on the clock.

100% agree that Richardson feels like the pick for Seattle if he is there

Let’s see how that plays out. Rodgers has a huge contract and is likely a one year rental. At most he’s a two year rental for wherever he goes. And he’s coming off a down season (for him). GB can posture about waiting until the pay date on Rodger’s bonus, but I don’t see how they can take the risk of having him at mandatory OTAs next month. If he gets injured they could wind up having to pay the whole $59.5M he’s owed this season.

I could see a 2nd round pick this year and a conditional pick next depending on Rodger’s/Jets’ performance - and whether Rodgers plays in 2024. So a 2024 first might be on the table if the right conditions get met. Also there could be a flip of 13 & 15, 13 for a second back or something like that, but I don’t see 13 straight up happening.

The flip to #13.... to get closer to Skoronski.... is definitely one to look out for if the Jets won't trade away a 1st altogether. Flip 13 for 15, and get one of the Jets #2s plus a conditional pick next year that starts a 3, becomes a 2 if they make the playoffs and a 1 if they make the Superbowl.

That's why I was saying both teams have leverage. The Jets have sold this move already and MUST get him. And GB is looking to move on from Rogers and his cap hit and MUST move him. It's down to whoever blinks first. Right now, I believe that cap hit being on GB's books is stopping them from making other moves that they want to make. That is probably the biggest incentive across both teams to get the deal done.

Sorry @turftoe

Virgil is out of commission atm-

With the 7th pick, the Las Vegas Raiders select-  Will Levis QB, Kentucky.

https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/teams/2023/las-vegas-raiders

consensus according to math is Levis.  Slimmy G is too slim and is a one year rental if they’d like him to be.  They aren’t going anywhere this year regardless of who they pick.  Might as well roll the dice on the only position that really matters.  He has the physical tools.

@TOboy and the falcons are on the clock.

With the 8th pick in the 2023 draft, the Atlanta Falcons are proud to select Tyree Wilson DE Texas Tech University.

With young skill players on offense already, and the QB’s we’d targeted already selected the Falcons look to solidify the d line with a high ceiling pass rusher.

@inaugural balls and the Chicago Bears are on the clock.

With the 9th pick in the 2023 draft, the Chicago Bears select Paris Johnson, Jr. OL  Ohio State.

Look, this was an easy selection even with other areas of concern. Fields was sacked 55 times last season and that needs to be curtailed. With Johnson's help and wiser decisions by Fields should lead to a more efficient, effective offense.

* I apparently was not in the room when others decided to give T. Edmunds that rather unseemly contract.

This is quite the steal. Personally I believe Houston will take Tyree Wilson at #2. DeMeco Ryans wants his Nick Bosa for his new team. Wilson is as close as you can get to that kind of prospect, just not as refined as Bosa coming out.

Yeah I think it’s close. But I think they take Anderson. Ryans is going to want to establish culture etc and Anderson’s value there is through the roof. Wilson is longer and maybe has some more upside, but he is raw and older than Anderson. I am taking Anderson every time and I do think the Texans will take him. The Niners have had rushers of all shapes and sizes have a ton of success in that system.

With the 10th selection, the Eagles select Jackson Smith-Njigba, Wr, Ohio State

We were in a unique position to add another weapon for Jalen Hurts and picked our favorite WR in this class.  We thought about Bijan Robinson but then were informed he was a running back.  This move gives us some flexibility when AJ Brown or Devonta Smith are looking for huge contracts a few years down the line when the teeth of Hurts's new contract kicks in.  In the short term it makes our offense even more explosive in a passing league.

The Titans @BarleyNYare on the clock.

Thanks, but I traded the 11th pick in my trade up to 3 for Stroud. For those interested, the trade was pick #11, pick #72 and the Titans 2024 first round pick for pick #3.

@NeverOutNick is on the clock for the Arizona Cardinals.

With the 11th pick in the 2023 NFL draft the Arizona Cardinals select Peter Skoronski, OL Northwestern

Cardinals have one of the worst rosters in the NFL and decide to take one of the premier O lineman to protect Murray for the foreseeable future. Skoronski is versatile and no matter the position he wins, he’ll be the best lineman on this crapfest of a roster day 1

I find myself in a tough spot with the Texans, my goal at this point is to add as much talent as possible. Damien Pierce is a good player, but I want to take it to the next level.

With the 12th pick in TSW mock draft 3.0 the Texans select Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas.

With the way the board fell he is BPA and the best offensive weapon I could find. Robinson is awesome and with the regime coming from the 49ers, Robinson will crush it in that offense essentially becoming the Christian McCaffrey. Robinson also gives you so much as a receiver that Pierce still has a role here. You may be wondering what we do at QB? After these two first rounders the Texans have 10 more picks, and I am totally willing to trade a couple of those for Trey Lance, who I like better than the QBs in this draft, and who already knows the offense. In a draft with just a few blue chip prospects, the Texans come away with two of them in Anderson and Robinson.

Bijan is an instant fan favorite and brings credibility and impact to this Texans offense.

@LEBills and the NY Rodgeres are on the clock

Should it be @LEBills or @aristocrat to reflect today’s trade?

Hey I'm not mad........glad to see a bumbling franchise draft a RB in round 1.

Maybe Bijan will be the first 1st round RB to have a stellar career for that team that drafted him since Adrian Peterson in 2007.   It's only been 15 years.   That's recent history right? :flirt:

More likely........Texans fans will get to watch him have his ups and downs and then be traded to a contender for pennies on the draft investment dollar in 3-4 years...........like Marshawn Lynch from that same 2007 draft eventually was.
