ITs valid. the bail reform/prison reform/soft on crime policies of the last few years are seen as the reason the crime is rising and affecting the well to do folks. Shoot, on Vallas's page the biggest statements are about fighting crime and removing the cuffs from the police. Chuy photo opps with cory bush might have hurt him more than helped him. but for real, its like no on on that ticket have actually worked or ran a business. just failures and life time governement folks. \GoBillsInDallas/
The biggest problem with Chicago is that it does not have a City Charter, which is the document that spells out the way a City government is supposed to operate: https://www.discoursemagazine.com/politics/2022/10/14/the-importance-of-city-charters/ Without a charter, it pretty much allows the mayor to do whatever they want and bypass government committees, lawyers, etc. without oversight. Yup! I moved to Chicago a little over a decade ago. I think Johnson will be favored to win but Vallas will have a shot at the upset. Johnson's lead won't be prohibitive and turnout is going to be the major factor. Any change from Lori is a positive change. Beyond that, hard to say. Chicago's biggest problems (gun violence, lack of investment, housing, etc) can't be solved solely by the mayor but instead require help from Springfield as well as states like Wisconsin and Indiana. Personally, I voted for Kam Buckner because I liked his ideas around fostering entrepreneurship, trade and vocational schools, funding neighborhoods and a post-COVID downtown with mixed use and more public spaces. 34 minutes ago, Chris farley said: ITs valid. the bail reform/prison reform/soft on crime policies of the last few years are seen as the reason the crime is rising and affecting the well to do folks. Crime is the top issue in Chicago, but it's not the only issue and it's not why Lori lost. She lost because she alienated everyone. She spent her entire term yelling at everyone and claiming she had the biggest dick in Chicago. Even people who work for her don't like her. If the theory that supporting the police / being tough on crime was the only issue in this race, Brandon Johnson wouldn't have made the runoff. Chuy ran a pathetic and lethargic campaign. Lori was hitting him in the local media and he wasn't responding. I'm not sure he even wanted to win, his campaign was so bad. It had nothing to do with Cori Bush. Don't form your opinions on a local race from the national media. That goes double for Chicago where most of the national coverage is junk. B-Man
UNEXPECTEDLY! ‘I’m a Black Woman in America:’ Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot Blames Election Loss on Racism, Sexism. Chicago has been a Democrat-monopoly stronghold since 1931. The last time the city’s voters elected a Republican to be their mayor was 1927. Almost a century later, Lightfoot calling her (now thankfully former) constituents sexists and racists is yet another reminder of how out of touch she was. https://www.nationalreview.com/news/im-a-black-woman-in-america-chicago-mayor-lori-lightfoot-blames-election-loss-on-racism-sexism/
US Egg
That Lightfoot lovers are hangin in there to this very minute, defending her charade, is almost comical, if it wasn’t so pathetic and damaging. That it mirrors their obsessive, continued vilifying and broad stroke painting of the scoundrel Trumpites, they hemorrhage about and will do forever, is irrelevant to them. ChiGoose
This should have a significant impact on the runoff: For those who aren’t familiar, White is the closest thing you can find to a consensus candidate in our polarized environment. In his last election (2018), he won 68% of the vote in an election where the Dem governor and AG candidates each won 55%. The next closest statewide candidate that election was the Comptroller who won with 60%. White carried a lot of downstate counties that are equivalent to the upstate and western counties of NY. He’s recently retired but this is a significant endorsement for Vallas. Here’s how the state voted for Governor in 2018: And here’s how it voted for Secretary of State (Jesse White’s race): Edited March 2, 2023 by ChiGoose

ChiGoose
23 minutes ago, JDHillFan said: Chicago has been under complete control of democrats forever. Is there something in their governance that just doesn’t work? Well, it only ended the machine like a decade ago. Since then, the city’s been going through a lot of changes with different constituencies valuing different things and vying for power. One of the major problems is that Chicago borders Indiana and is fewer than a three hour drive from Wisconsin. Those states are funneling guns into the city that are being used for crime. There isn’t much a mayor can do to fix that. It’s been a national punching bag for gun violence, but actually has a much lower homicide rate than cities like New Orleans and St. Louis. Some years, the homicide rate is within a point or two of Buffalo, but it’s a bigger city so the raw numbers look worse. Additionally, until recently, the state was run very poorly. In addition to the Chicago Machine, there was a Springfield Machine under Speaker Mike Madigan that was in effect until a couple of years ago. Madigan is now on trial for corruption and bribery. We also kept having governors go to jail. There was a famous clip years ago that you had a higher percentage chance of going to jail if you were the governor of Illinois than if you committed murder. The previous governor intentionally tried to tank the state’s finances to the point where his own party revolted and secretly negotiated a bipartisan budget behind his back. Because of all of that, Chicago couldn’t rely on the state for help when it needed it. Despite that, I think the city is actually doing pretty well despite its challenges. It was actually voted Best big city in the country for the sixth year in a row. The neighborhoods are great, the people are friendly, and the food is incredible. Take it from someone who lives there, life here isn’t anything like what you see on the national news. It’s actually a great place to live. I’m fairly optimistic about the future. Come visit some time. You’ll love it! Edited April 5, 2023 by ChiGoose 1

Let alone have it be an excuse for why Blacks are murdering blacks every day in majority black Chicago - only 36 percent of the city is white. The policies this moron supports are the result of Black leadership failures. They just can’t take accountability. It’s going to still be the White persons fault. And Trump. Now the school policies and tests the very liberal and Democrat NEA has supported for decades are white supremacy. They apparently agree - indicting themselves as racists. That’s freaking hilarious. You can btw, support less resources in law enforcement - but you have to preach PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY in order to raise respectful well behaved intelligent and responsible children. How’s that working out America home of non existent genders and standards that by design leave our young men of all races and ethnicity feeling toxic and useless - I can’t imagine why.
