Week 9: Bills at Jets - Sunday Nov. 6th 1pm

Most of the Jets success has come in zone coverage(lowest QBR allowed), but Allen leads the NFL in QBR(81) and TDs(6) against zone coverage...good luck with that Jets.

Kinda expected no??

Yeah but hopes were up when McD said day-to-day earlier in the week

Our Bills lost to the Dolphins with both Poyer and Hyde out.   The defense is markedly weaker without JP.  If Milano is also missing, it is going to increase the struggle against another Division Opponent.

Tottally different scenario though..... Jets don't have a Hill/Waddle to open up the field like Fins. Bills mainly need to keep the Jets run game in check and I don't think that will be so much of a problem, even with the injuries.

Not really because of the D...they gave up 213 total yards and one of the TD "drives" was like 4 yards I think. They hit them with 1 big pass.  They lost because they left 20-30 points on the field and the heat related issues they were having during the game.

Agreed - our offense lost in Miami, partly down being down so many on the O Line by the fourth quarter. Despite being depleted, our defense did well.

I’ve come to expect at least 1 turnover in the redzone.  We can survive those.

It’s the turnovers inside our 20 that can bite us.  Need to be a little cautious when we’re backed up.

These guys have couple of studs that can put us in a hole.

Conflicting report came out from Ian Rappaport that poyer is more "week to week".  At this point, I wouldn't count on him next week either.

Agree about Jets playing zone/4 man rush rate is very high.  Be curious if Shakir gets more PT against a defense like this, similar to Steelers with zone looks.

Add in the fact that Zach Wilson is not a very good QB, and this seems to be a "key in on the run--get them into 3rd and long situations--watch Zach Wilson make mistakes on said 3rd and longs" scenario.

That’s fair to be frustrated if a higher pick (one who many of us were surprised by during the draft) doesn’t get a lot of run their first year, but that’s not unusual for this team (or other deep teams). Dodson can cover though. In fact he’s also like Milano a bit athletically. Like Milano, ran in the 4.6s and has been in this system a while.

Hopefully, Milano plays, but if it is Dodson, I wouldn’t think negatively of Bernard. Just that we are a deep team and guys have to fight their way on the field. It’s a sign of roster strength. Same way I don’t feel bad about James Cook or our young safeties when they added Hines and Marlowe. It’s a deep team, and when there is an injury, they are going to play the guys they trust most and give them the best opportunity to win.

White, Edmunds, Bernard/Elam, Milano, Rousseau, Ford, Bass all started or played extensively in their rookie years. I dont think there is an actual philosophy to red shirt guys. I think the guys that aren't good dont play that much.

Injury report is best case scenario. Good to see.

We all expected Poyer Milano and Brown to be in question/out and Poyer the only one ruled out so far.

Edmunds and Von good to go. Great news.

I am in bed with covid and had nothing to do, so I re-watched Bills @ Jets 2019 game. For those who don't remember, it was season opener a we were down 0-16 in mid 3Q but managed to come back and win 17-16.

Defense was playing great whole game, but Allen had 4 turnovers in the first half including unlucky pick6 by CJ Mosley (bounced from Cole Beasley's hands). He was great in the first drive until fumble, then quite ok, and then looked really bad trying to play hero ball early in second half. Then suddenly we got Devin Singletary going, Allen settled down and managed very nice GW drive with 3:00 to go. Defense then shut Darnold down and we won. Game was for sure affected by Mosley's injury; our run started once he went down in the middle of the 3rd quarter.

Couple of things I find interesting:

1. Allen's inaccuracy was the main theme for the announcers, esp. Harlan. Can't blame them much though after his rookie season. Fun times lol.

2. Universal thought was that Darnold is/will be the better QB of the two. Fun times indeed.

3. In offense, this was the first game Allen had any receivers at all. John Brown had 123 yards and a TD and was great imo, as he was whole 2019 season. I think he helped Allen a lot.

4. Rookies were Oliver, Ford, Singletary, Knox, D. Johnson, J. Johnson and Sweeney. Almost all of them played. Oliver looked good and Sweeney looked like we may had something in him. Singletary was great once he got a chance behind Gore. He had 4 rushes for 70 yards and 5 catches for 28 yards. He essentially changed the game since our first TD was all him. It was nice to see, since before he had a chance to show something Shady McCoy had like 6/60 for the Chiefs and people were questioning how we could let him go and keep Gore :)

5. Speaking of Gore, wow. We didn't like Moss running for 2 yards last 2 years but man Gore was something else. I don't want to bash someone with his career but he really looked slow and old in Bills uni.

6. Jets offense was Bell and Crowder. It was Bell's first game after a year and he looked good. Then he went on a disappointing season (789y, 3,2y AVG) and his career essentially ended. Other than them, Jets had nothing. Robbie Anderson had 3/23.

7. It's really interesting how similar our back 7 looked to what we have now. Edmunds, Milano, T.Johnson, Hyde, Poyer, White, Neal. Only Lorax and Levi Wallace are gone now.

8. There was a brutal turnover on Jets roster. It is only 3 years away, and unless I missed someone only CJ Mosley, Q.Williams, Braxton Berrios and LS Hennessy are on their current roster now. That's almost impossible to manage imo. EDIT: They also had LB Shepherd and DE Franklin-Myers as inactives so that's 6. For comparison, Bills have 21 from that day (including Phillips, Lawson and Marlowe who came back).

For fun I also read the game day thread :) Lots of hot takes even from reasonable posters, but you can imagine it was even worse than these days, since nobody knew what Allen will become and people were used to losing much more than today. If somebody has nothing to do:

https://www.twobillsdrive.com/community/topic/217961-98-bills-at-jets-second-half-thread/

It is worth mentioning that success of other relevant QBs on that day didn't help either. Ravens destroyed Dolphins 59-10 and Lamar was 17/20 for 324y and 5TDs. Mahomes was 25/33 for 378y and 3TDs, all of them to Sammy Watkins who had 9/198 lol.

Get well soon brother

Yeah thats not bad.  Hopefully Milano can play but if not, Im not going to stress it.  Our D does well with next man up.
