Why....  Can cut him now and call it a June 1 Designation.

Why would we cut Star now?  He's not owed a roster bonus.  If we cut him now with a post-June1, we don't realize the higher cap savings until...post-June 1.

Beane likes to go into the draft with the "holes" in the roster filled.  Cutting Star right now (pre or post June1) would serve no useful purpose.

its a shame he is leaving the Bills in a weird divided state where some are grateful for his time here and bummed to him and go, and others are excited to see him go and can't stand him.

Coles deserves some appreciation for what he truly did for this team:

  1. Played his heart out on the field, played tough for his small stature, and made a LOT of critical plays that led to us winning a lot of games.
  2. Played hurt, on a broken leg, for this team in the playoffs leaving everything on the field.
  3. Was instrumental in Josh's development, said by Josh himself, by always being in his ear non stop analyzing plays in practice or games, what Josh was seeing, what Cole was seeing, etc etc.
  4. Was a great locker room guy and teammate according to just about everyone in the locker room.

I get there is controversy around him because of what he decided to be vocal about and how he went about it on social media.  But putting that aside, he was a great signing and played a key role for this offense and for Josh.

And for that, I will be forever grateful to you Beasley despite hard disagreements with a lot of your personal opinions and beliefs.  Best of luck to you where ever you land.

As I said, he is not part of the plan.  the FO is respected in the league because of taking care of players.  They could just due it now, and know their money for the draft picks is coming June 1.  And continue signing players while maintaining the respect of taking care of players that clearly are not in their plans.

Adam Humphries. Similar type of agility, 4 years younger, so if you project his production it is on par with Beasley. Much cheaper without all the drama. A process guy who we were in on a few years ago before he went to the Titans. He is also a little bigger with better short are quickness. Perfect replacement. also a former Commie, so makes him kind of like a former Panther.

Also some YAC ability

exactly, you don't release someone or restructure their contract until it's necessary

Correct. For all we know Jones slips on a rubber mat next week and tears an ACL. No need to jump the gun if it isnt going to count until June 1 anyways.

I'm thinking of Beane' recent public comment: "No reason not to expect him back next year" or words to that effect...

And folks still hang on the publicly spoken words of sports management as though they are telling the truth at all times....

🤔

Sure you do.  And that exact reason of taking care of a player is something Bills have gained alot of respect for.  Would you be willing to take a hit on that by holding someone on your roster to rot until June 1st?

The one thing nobody can question is that he gave everything he had for this team, every time he stepped on the field - exactly the kind of player Bills fans have historically loved.

Loved what he did here for a while, but just was too much of a distraction considering his declining production.  I really hope we can find someone who can find gaps in the zone like he could

Yeah me too. Will always be grateful for what he brought to the team and have great memories of the many key plays he made. Such a shame that the whole Covid thing happened and the tone changed this year. This little comment by McKenzie on OBL kinda sums it up best. Best of luck #11 wherever you suit up next (unless it's NE).

If they truly thought his time was done and they had no plan for him, they'd cut him. As you pointed out.

Obviously (although this could change at literally any second), at this time, they want to keep Star around as a 1Tech candidate.
