aristocrat
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/32706428/minnesota-vikings-de-everson-griffen-refuses-leave-home-firing-weapon EAGAN, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings and the Minnetrista Police Department are dealing with an ongoing situation involving defensive end Everson Griffen, who has refused to come out of his residence after making a series of disturbing posts on Instagram earlier Wednesday morning claiming that someone was in his home trying to kill him. The Minnetrista Public Safety Department said in a news release that Griffen called 911 after 3 a.m. Wednesday from his residence, said someone was inside his home and requested assistance from authorities. Griffen told the 911 dispatcher that he fired a weapon but that no one was injured.

MiltonWaddams
I hope he gets help. That has signs of schizophrenia. Talented guy, but those demons are harder to overcome than a top flight NFL Oline 2

BillsFanForever19
How has he not been being evaluated and treated regularly? This isn't the first or even the second time he's shown schizophrenic behavior. I understand he's very good at Football. But this is going to be a very bad look for the League if something terrible happens or happened. If you were going to bring him back to the stresses of being an NFL star after you determined he needed a mental health evaluation and then after he showed up at the team hotel threatening to shoot someone - he should have had to have been forced to see a team psychiatrist or psychologist on a weekly basis that stayed on top of medication and evaluating whether he was a danger to himself or others for the length of his contract. Maybe they did do this and this incident still happened. But if not, again it's going to be a real bad look. He's had issues before, but anyone who's been close to mental illness knows that things can change quickly after relative calm. After a diagnosis, it can take even years to determine the right course of treatment, including medications. And then those medications may need adjusting. Mental illnesses are so misunderstood because most people haven't been educated on how they present. Here's to hoping Griffen and those around him are safe as soon as possible. 1

Just like Incognito, sometimes the DISCIPLINE of living the life of a NFL player is better for them. People most often freak out when alone, at night, doing drugs, etc.

hemma
Even if he has the correct meds, making sure he takes them may not be a simple task. Once a person starts to slide, he may end up going all the way to the bottom. Tough road ahead and it may get even worse over time.

Thriftygamer83
Having Aspergers have been struggling with depression, anxiety, and reading social issues at times. It's hard to discipline yourself to not show "symptoms" blending in, it's like wearing a mask, and or having to wear a hat several times to large. And, then you see guys like Carey Price battling those same issues or John Hiatt addressing his past. As an alcoholic I'm always in recovery mode. Doc Brown
Update on story: “Law enforcement agencies have notified us Everson Griffen came out of his home without incident and is now getting the care he needs,” the statement said. “We are thankful to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, the Carver County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnetrista Police Department and the Orono Police Department for their quick response and dedication to ensuring the situation ended peacefully. Our focus remains on Everson’s health and safety and providing the proper resources for him and his family.” 8
