Members of Congress fear Gruden’s emails are the tip of the iceberg.

not sure on that one... been in DC area 30+ years and if there's one thing Snyder loves it is his beloved childhood team.   Plus I believe it's all he has, don't think he will let it go.  It's not like he has other Biz interests of any import, the 'skins are it.   The league will stop well short of forcing a sale (not sure they can do that anyway without a ton of evidence) as he has dirt on them as well.

Yeah, I'm not saying he will. I know his love for his team is large.

I just feel for the league to come out clean they have to work a deal with him where he walks away quietly. Not sure that's possible, but that's what they need.

Very true, but when you let tax dollars get involved in your business, along with antitrust law considerations.

You invite the government in, just like baseball and steroids.

His football career either on the field or on TV is already dead. At this point and time he’s really got nothing left to lose

As they say Time heals all wounds.  Give enough time and him asking for forgiveness, can see him getting some type of role back in football.

Announcing MNF, or HC in the league, no, but some position by some team, maybe scouting area or something.  Could see it happening years down the road.  Seems others have done worse and got back again.

He's taking his millions and going away for good how much u wanna bet.....

as far as Im concerned Jon Gruden is retired and off my radar which is where he belongs. He's not a Bill, an ex Bill and frankly he and his elevator sneakers can go take a hike. See ya won't miss ya. SMH What a waste of football acumen. If he was from a different era this would not even be out in the light of day though. Harder to prove unrecorded phone conversations eh mates..

My own dad was a bigot. I can smell my own. Its a reality of our country and its ugly. Go away Jon you are detracting from human civility.

Raiders are my 2nd fav NFL team. It gives me no pleasure this debacle. None. SMH

Jon Gruden’s emails will be a needle in a haystack if ALL of the NFL’s emails are finally released.  Everyone is focused on Gruden. That is nothing. My guess is the NFL will spend billions to keep the rest of the emails from ever surfacing.

Hopefully Goodell is part of this mess. He’s done good things for the game, but I hate how soft the league has gotten under his rule. Give me a commish somewhere between Tagliabue and Goodell and we can get away from the “No Fun League” and flag football for QBs.

I don’t think that toothpaste is ever going back into the tube.

The issue I see with releasing private emails and allowing their contents to be judged based on how offended the public happens to be is that being offended is such a subjective thing.

Let's assume there are emails between owners and Goodell where they are throwing racial slurs at Kaepernick. That one isn't really subjective (I guess to rednecks it would be).

But what about an email where someone says he doesn't believe there should ever be a female head coach? You know someone would be crucified for this and held up as a misogynist. But that could be an opinion where it's not simply black or white. Now for the record I don't agree with this this line of thinking, it was just the first example that came to mind.

The problem with society now is that Twitter seems to have a build-in outrage-o-meter which is used to determine whether something justifies a punishment, and that's pretty troubling to me at least.

Congress does have more important things, that's why they have so many committees. Junior members get less important ones to serve on and sometimes they might latch onto a high profile issue to boost their own profile.

Or maybe I'm just a bit cynical.

Hahaha! Let’s release all the private emails of the self righteous “members of Congress” and then you’ll see real fear.

Two wrongs don't make a "right."

It's quite sad how many people in this thread voice the opinion, basically, that Congress should not be concerned with a widespread trend of racist, homophobe, and misogynist behavior within the foundations of the NFL, given the level of influence the sport has in modern American society.

What does the NFL have to lose?  How about the fact that they are a de facto and arguably de jure monopoly in violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act?  How about Congress deciding it's time to go after the NFL and deny them their "special" status within the construct of current American law?

So there's that, to name one concern.

Roger messed up enormously here.

His leaking of emails to destroy Gruden made this an enormous scandal.

Also, Florio is in heaven with this stuff. Anything to tear down the league he profits from himself.

lol Goodell leaked the emails?
