Are Darnold and Fields Going to Make Trubisky a Hot Commodity This Offseason?

Why in the world would he do a sign & trade, that makes absolutely no sense on his part.  He is a free agent, if Beane wants to retain his rights he is going to have to franchise him which is obviously is not going to happen.

They can always tag him and force it.

Mitch needs try to pull a Tannehill. He'll find a team like Washington, Houston, Pittsburgh, maybe even the Giants- where he has a shot to take over, and I'd bet om him being successful.

I think it will also depend on him having a supportive coaching staff. Some of the negative media attention affected him while in Chicago and that will need to be something he is able to deal with also.

I mean look at the opinions here about Josh (Weeks 1 and 2) due to the need of instant gratification by some.

Is the comp pick based solely on $?  Anybody know how that works? Like specific tiers errrrrrr?????

no one knows exactly what the formula is. NFL keeps it a tightly held secret for some reason. (Belicheck has figured it out. He routinely trades for or signs vets toward end of season then watches them leave in free agency to help his formula=most years Pats lead the league in comp picks)

But yes the amounts you sign for do matter as does the round you were drafted in.

if you cut a player they no longer help you in the comp pick formula.

First thing that must happen for this to even matter is you must lose more comp pick eligible players to free agency then free agents you sign. So even if Trubisky signs for 1 billion dollars for 5 years it will not matter if Bills sign more Free Agents then they lose. This is why Bills did not get comp pick for losing Stephon Gilmore.

I think Mitchell will finish the year a Bill. I love the idea of Beane having more capital for draft time but unless its a first I dont think they risk solid backup QB who had the whole off-season in the program for Davis Webb or whoever else is available.

Yea while the exact formula is not known, money matters and number matters. In some situations playing time seems to matter too.

WTF needs a QB bad so does Houston.

They might ride it out with Heineken and Fitz this year in Wash.

The Texans have Tie Rod and he was doing ok until he got hurt

Signing Truebiscuit as a FA in the off season makes the most sense for both teams as they can save their draft picks for other needs.

BTW if the Bills did trade our victory formation specialist who would replace him? ;)

"Hi, this is Carl from Cheektowaga... I still think the Bills are making a mistake not giving him a start.  Allen has proven he's too inconsistent.  I'll hang up and listen..."

In all seriousness, Trubisky will probably sign somewhere as a Bridge QB.  The contract will be in line with that and the Bills will get a Day 3 comp pick.

The only way for him to raise his value to the level of a starting QB is for him to play well in multiple meaningful games.  That’s not happening here unless Allen misses substantial time with injury - and no Bills fan wants that.

Nagy continuing to suck out loud in Chicago will help Trubisky get another look, but his game film sucks too. He’s going to get a chance to put better film out there, but no team is going to pay him large until he does.

(*I am not sure how this would play out in comp pick calculations, but we could get lucky on Trubisky’s contract structure if it is based on AAV.  If he signs a nominal 5 year deal that’s really a modest one year deal with an option for 4 more years at starting QB rates we might get a better comp pick due to the higher AAV of the whole deal (which he probably won’t see).  Again, that’s just speculation based on some knowledge of comp picks and mostly thinking out loud.)
