I am not very knowledgeable on the details of this conflict, but

about 20 years, equal to Russia's time in this sand box, plus 20 yrs of monetary support to fight against Russia previously, now an untimely exit and it appears the Afgans have the same piece of poop country back that they had 40 yrs ago.

What was the point? Why did Russia and then the US ( and Canada) spend so many lives and dollars and then quit?

The Taliban and their religious controls are again free the kill, mutilate, stone and hate.

I think this is worse than Vietnam in results.

What say you.

Watch the movie Charlie Wilsons war it's based on some true events of the US involvement in Afghanistan and just how stupid the American politicians were after the Russians had left and how the Taliban got the strong hold in the country because of the lack of follow up from the US .

Once again American politicians prove just how stupid they truly are and how much they really care for others in different country's !!

Although Charlie Wilson was really trying to help those folks other politicians were just typical US politicians and it wound up being a quagmire that the US couldn't get out of very similar to Vietnam just no chemical warfare involved in this one .  Lets here it for us ...

Since March 2020.

It was pretty telling when the guy that was making their lives miserable called it the Wuhan Virus and the media and their DNC and Silicon Valley puppets called that racist.

And please I'll save you the time and say don't bother posting a useless tweet from Trump saying how helpful Xi has been in helping with the response.

That should be to you at least as meaningful as when Trump says he loves the LGBTQ community or minorities or condemns the KKK 700000 times.   Those statements to you didn't matter.

Hack.

Doesn’t appear to be a fiasco. 30k people already out of there safely. There might be another hiccup but it appears to be an extremely successful withdrawal.

More Americans died during the 1/6 terrorist attack on our nation’s capital than the Afghanistan withdrawal.

Numbers do matter.

I’m sorry guys. It’s been really successful. Near perfect. I don’t know why you aren’t supporting our military while we’re withdrawing from a 20 year war that no one wants to fight.

I realize that defense officials, military officials, and others are upset that their gravy train is ending but that butthurt shouldn’t be trickling down to us at the street level.

Taliban: No extension to foreign troop deadline for evacuations

The armed group warns of ‘consequences’ if the foreign troops delay their withdrawal over the ongoing evacuation of citizens and vulnerable Afghans

.

The Taliban will not agree to an extension of the evacuation mission from Afghanistan,  a spokesman for the group told British news channel Sky News.

The move would mean “extending occupation” and that is “a red line”, Suhail Shaheen, a member of the Taliban delegation in Doha, the capital of Qatar, said on Monday.

Most of you have been refreshing your browser and ambulance chasing for your next Benghazi and totally whiffed.

Now, you find yourselves out on an island, as active members of a pro-Covid cult, rooting against America.

KABUL: Airport Gunfight.

A deadly gunfight broke out at Afghanistan’s main airport early Monday, with an Afghan guard killed and several others injured as US and German soldiers exchanged fire with unidentified gunmen, officials said.

The latest fatality at the troubled airport came just before 4:15 a.m. as Afghan security forces helping secure the base exchanged fire with the unidentified attackers, the German military said on Twitter.

CNN reported that a sniper outside the airport had fired at Afghan guards inside, who returned fire.

Sources told the outlet that in the confusion, US soldiers may have also shot at the Afghan soldiers — who are there to help the desperate scramble of thousands trying to flee Taliban rule — after the Afghans returned fire.

And Joe says we might need to extend the deal deadline and the Taliban say "no".   So this is likely to get very ugly.  Typically when you plan a retreat you want to deploy combat and security forces to guard your withdrawing forces from attack.  But not these clowns.  They abandon a secure air base, pull out all their military forces, and leave unarmed and vulnerable civilian populations behind.  And when realizing how badly they've screwed up resort to a risky strategy of having to re-insert the military back into the conflict.  And now the administration finds itself in a position of begging a savage and bloodthirsty medieval enemy for mercy in allowing their people out of the conflict zone.  The most embarrassing moment in American history.  But no worries some say.  Because it wasn't Joe's plan.  If anyone wants to use that excuse for total failure I hope it makes them feel better.

I feel the worst for those who trusted the us forces, welcomed them and worked with them. They now have a bullseye on themselves and their families.

US military gives Biden a deadline to decide on extending Afghanistan evacuations

The US military is advising President Joe Biden that he must decide by Tuesday whether to extend the evacuation in Afghanistan beyond August 31, according to a defense official directly familiar with the discussions, though Biden has yet to make a decision.

Military advisers have told the White House that the decision must be made by Tuesday in order to have enough time to withdraw the 5,800 troops currently on the ground, as well as their equipment and weapons.

If the President agrees, the military anticipates "a few more days" of trying to evacuate as many people as possible before the drawdown of US forces begins, possibly at the end of this week.

You’re assuming the chaos was inadvertent of course, but with Biden’s experience in foreign affairs one can never be sure.

You’re correct on what must be done to get the survivors out.  Step one is unfortunately to remove the top guy from his post.   There seems to be no appetite for doing so.

Too late…the Taliban already said they have ONE WEEK and then holy hell breaks loose. Nancy won’t even have formed the committee for over a month!

Afghanistan among others will give the House and Senate to the Republicans on a silver platter in 2022. Imagine if they made Trump Speaker of the House. I have to agree with Irv , what a mess.

As the Constitution does not explicitly state that the speaker must be an incumbent member of the House, it is permissible for representatives to vote for someone who is not a member of the House at the time, and non-members have received a few votes in various speaker elections over the past several years.

You'd think so.  But I still have faith the Republicans will manage to screw it up anyway.  Even if the worst possible scenario plays out in the next couple week.  Other than becoming fiscally responsible when they lose the majority and opposing lots of social issues pushed by the left what is their platform?  What vision are they going to lay out?   I've heard rumblings about running on the "law and order issue" and now using this Afghanistan disaster but then what?
