So I’m watching tv today and some of the analysts are already saying the Bills will have a real tough game because of Kyler Murray...now this is not to say he doesn’t have talent, he obviously does, and admittedly I’m going off of stats, but have you guys looked at some of the games he has had in his career so far? He had a game where he barely threw for 100 yards, a couple of games this season where his numbers have been terrible, in reading up a little bit about him I am reading that he has trouble getting past his first read-sounds awfully familiar doesn’t it? Why does he get such a huge benefit of the doubt while Josh gets crushed since the day he was drafted?

everyone likes to pull for the little guy

What are the odds that we get Nance and Romo this week? According to NFL.com, there are only 3 games on CBS this week and all are on at 4pm. Nance and Romo have to be doing one of them whch might end up being Chargers vs Dolphins

My guess is they will do the Bengals at Steelers. That game is a 4:25 start which usually means it's broadcast to the entire country. The Bills-Cards and Chargers-Dolphins are both 4:05 starts. These games will probably get the 2nd and 3rd announcing teams from CBS.

bengals steelers is on fox and we're on CBS.... which is odd since we're the team playing the NFC squad.

Road team determines the network...it's why Seahawks game was on Fox....but I think this year they changed it up a bit and AFC games on Fox and NFC CBS

Since we're on FOX, maybe we'll get lucky and draw up Aikman and he can spend all game breaking down every single incompletion again and telling us how Allen will just never be able to hit the broadside of a barn.

Fox again?  If the road team is AFC, isn't it CBS?

The number one concern for our defense will be keeping Kyler Murray in the pocket.

He's arguably the best running QB in the NFL.

Murray doesn't have Lamar Jackson's juke moves, or Josh Allen's ability to run over tacklers.  But he's still very fast, and very elusive.

Have to stop him in his first couple of yards or he's gone for good.

It says on the NFL.com site that the Bengals vs Steelers game is on Fox. The 3 games on at 4:00 on CBS is Chargers vs Dolphins, Bills vs Cardinals and Broncos vs Raiders. So, unless the Steelers game moves to CBS unless that's a typo on NFL.com, we could have the number 1 game on CBS. Roethlisberger looks like he could be missing that game to so it might not appeal to many people seeing Mason Rudolph going against the Bengals

I dont think Nance will be available for football this weekend.  He is usually the main guy on the Masters which is going on.

An issue with kick returners (not Roberts in particular) is that their stats are inflated--and often meaningless.

A touchback gets you to the 25.    Theoretically,  a returner could return every kick from the back of the endzone to the 25 (35 yards) and he would, by a wide margin, be the greatest returner in the history of the NFL---yet his team would be no better off than if he had let them all go as touchbacks.

Plus, it makes no sense that returners get credit for yards they travel (only forward)  in the endzone.  They don't give QB's/receivers/runners an extra 10  yards in stats if they run through the back of the EZ after crossing the plane.

A better metric would be how many net yards beyond the 25 a returner gets.  A running total for the year would reflect the leaders.  Granted, not all kicks will have gone into the endzone if not fielded by the returning team, but most kicks are touchbacks.  The only point of running the kick out of the EZ or from the 1 or 2 (instead of letting it bounce into the EZ is that you hope the guy will break a big one.  The odds are overwhelmingly against this.

Looking at it this way, Roberts stats are this:

16 returns (of 50)

15 were returned from the EZ up to about the 1 yard line (i.e., would have been touchbacks)

8 of them he crossed the 25 yard line (by 7, 4, 17, 1, 6, 1, 18, 60 yards)

7 of them he did not (losing 5, 1, 2, 7, 2, 1, 2 yards compared to touchback)

1 he made it just to the 25 (a "24 yard return" from the 1)

So his "+/-" would be +84 yards over touchback.

Not sure where that puts him but probably near the top.
