SoCal Deek
I didn’t watch the video and was never really a big Ferguson fan...but that playoff game against the Chargers where he played on one leg was one was of the gutsiest things I’ve ever witnessed in sports. He earned a ton of respect that day!

hondo in seattle
Fergie’s underrated. He started out being the guy who handed off to OJ but later developed into a good QB. In 1981, for example, he threw for more yards than better remembered guys like Montana, Bradshaw and Jaworski.
GRHater69
He survived some really bad teams. They were 3-11 at one point in '77 and he rebounded under Chuck Knox to become one of the better QBs in the game a few seasons later. We should take note that he needed weapons around him to be successful and he didn't always have that here. In some ways he had less to deal with then what we have now. I will always be a fan and respect him for what he did as a Bill. Edited November 10, 2018 by GRHater69
PearlHowardman
Amazing! Compare Joe Ferguson to Josh Allen. Ferguson was (at times) a tough, competitive QB. Josh Allen is sitting on the sideline with a SpongeBob SquarePants band-aid over his elbow boo-boo. Note: The Buffalo Bills don't develop quarterbacks, they ruin quarterbacks. Peter
Joe Ferguson, in my judgment, was a very good QB and underrated by many Buffalo Bills fans and certain members of the media. As someone else wrote above, I would be very happy to have him now.

Great post and very accurate; many who spew nonsense daily on this board have no concept of the 1968, 1971, 1976, 1977, 1984, or 1985 season; we I am ready to give the current regime some time! 2 minutes ago, BeginnersMind said: I guess you advocate him blowing up his elbow and ruining his career like so many others who had the UCL injury. I have no idea whether he will be a franchise QB. I do know that we did him no favors putting him behind that offensive line and not giving him particularly good wide receivers. The only thing worse that we could do is put him behind that offense line without adequate wide receivers while injured.
fridge
How come we never really see Ferguson honored by the team? Unless someone can refresh my memory, I don't seem to recall him being at a game or anything in the last 20 years? I'd love to see him lead the charge and get re-acclimated with the team as an alumni. I hope there's no bad blood there.

If I recall correctly, he was battling cancer. I think he is in remission. I hope so. He always seemed like a very decent human being. He also was a very good QB in my view and a great teammate who never seemed to complain. There were some in the press and fans who targeted him for criticism. Larry Felser was one of them. Nevertheless, Fergie never seemed to let that bother him.

I will always be a fan and respect him for what he did as a Bill. For many of his years, his interceptions and sacks exceeded his touchdown passes, but he was good enough to be the Bills starting QB for twelve years. That tells you the miserable TEAM play was not all on him. His career stats make him a perhaps average QB on a poor team. Imagine him on the 70's Steelers or Dolphins! BTW, in Ground Chuck's five years as head coach, he had only TWO winning seasons. But under Knox, Fergie had his four BEST career QB ratings, when he played 16 games. He played backup for the Lions, Bucs and Colts after leaving Buffalo, Just shy of 30,000 passing yards. I am a Ferguson fan, too! I always said they cut Ferguson, wearing #12 in 1984, in the hopes of signing Jim Kelly, who took #12 to the Houston Gamblers. 37 minutes ago, mabden said: Agreed. When Fergy was on, man, was he on. Ferguson has said that the head hanging was misinterpreted. He said he was already thinking about what he would do when he got the ball back, and was making plans. Someone should have told him how that was perceived negatively by anyone looking at him. His career INT rate was almost 15% per attempt too. If Cribbs gets that first down on third and short late in the 4th, the Chargers are never in the position to win... if Charlie Romes holds onto that INT on the play before the winning TD.... aaaaaarrrgggh. It's hard to be a Bills fan. But it was easy to like Fergy. He was a baller, and is the center of my first Bills memories. Glad he is thriving. On a related subject, what was in the water in Shreveport back then? GRHater69
Bill Simpson was our 3rd starting safety that year. Jeff Nixon tore and ACL which was a shame, he could have been a good player for many years, and his backup Rod Kush also went down to injury. Maybe if 1 of those guys is healthy that TD pass to Smith doesn't happen....maybe. God that as tough just now to watch that play, but thanks for posting.
