I watched all the games Mccarron played for the Bengals and when he was in they just had a spark....He plays with a fire inside of him and I think he is going to actually take us a lot further then people expect...i hope before the start of the season we can atleast get a half decent OLine so he doesnt get killed....and i believe it is going to be a lot harder for Allen to take his Mccarron's starting spot then everyone but Mccarron thinks. He has won titles at every level of football when he was given a chance....and i know a lot of people are hung up on arm strength which is Mccarrons biggest weakness but i would rather have an accurate, field reading, rhythmic, insync, and good decision making qb over one that can just throw the ball far and run faster then most

I'm all in with Mccaron if he shows half of what he did in college which he did (and will again) in the games he played for the Bengals i think it will be a good thing but i hope Mcbean & company don't pull another Ralph & pull him just because they drafted a QB in the first round !!

The other thing is i hope AJ wins so that all the nay sayers here on this board can be made to eat their words that would be a great day ! Kind of like all of those that use to love to see Flutie win games & then bad moth him after the fact at least AJ could have proof on paper with his win stats when a Bills fan says how bad he sucked !!

He like Flutie can just say well look at the facts wins vs. losses says it all their record is the proof no matter how much they think the player stinks i would like to see how many of them were jumping around while the Bills were winning with the little man at the helm & how many will jump on the wagon again when AJ does the same thing  !!

You better, cuz your boy is not going to be ready to play for a while. We need AJ to be efficient and to operate this offense if we stand a chance of being decent next year..

I don’t want Allen to start the season.

I don’t have a ton of confidence in AJ McCarron.

Thrse aren’t mutually exclusive ideas.

I don’t really care how good the Bills are this year.  I care about Josh Allen’s development and where he’s at, developmentally, this December.

I have faith in his ability. The potential problem will be creating a QB controversy that gets in the heads of both McCarron and Allen. Bills need to give McCarron space to succeed and Allen space to just watch and learn.

McCarron will be better than people here think he will. Allen is going to have to make some leaps and bounds to be better than AJ. But I think any time you draft a qb first round the management is under extreme pressure to prove that the pick was a correct one and play that qb asap. Even if its a detriment to the team.

i don't believe that's gonna be the case here...with the f.o. or even the fan base..unless things go south...

and unfortunately our hardest part is early, so hopefully a.j. can keep us ok til nov.1st. then it's get in a winning groove and ride out a winning streak.

Here we go.

Lets all all fall in love with a career backup hold him up on a pedestal and inflate expectations only to be disappointed.  Rinse and repeat every 3 years.

The cycle provides slight entertainment to those that go from home to work to home to work to home boring people.

Wasn’t t Jimmy G a career backup?

Some people make me laugh, had the Bills traded for him you’d be singing a different tune just like the fans that said trade up and get a QB...what they meant was trade up and get a QB the fan wanted.

How long did Rodgers sit before starting? Wouldn’t he have been a career backup?

AJ was behind a “franchise” guy. What have any of the rookie QBs done that AJ hasn’t?

If the Bills traded or signed the QB you wanted you’d have a different post and others would have your opinion. Same with the draft.

Ignorance is Bliss....

If the Bills suck, and AJ flops, the clamor to start Allen will be tremendous. If you want it to be a structured easing into the NFL for Allen, the Bills have got to be at least decent.

Alabama's Greatest QB of All Time, AJ McCarron. AJ is the All Time Leader in Passing Yards, Completions, Completion Percentage, Passing Touchdowns and Passer Rating

I fail to see how these highlights are not equal to highlights of the top four or six in this year's draft.

Highlight packages are put together to accentuate positive plays. Entire games tell a much more accurate picture of what a prospect is capable of.  AJM would have been the same low round prospect he was in 2014 vs. the 2018 QB class.

BTW, Joe Namath, Ken Stabler, and Richard Todd all say "Hello".

"Highlight packages are put together to accentuate positive plays."

That knife slices both ways.

"Entire games tell a much more accurate picture of what a prospect is capable of."

But what was his winning %? How many national titles?

"AJM would have been the same low round prospect he was in 2014 vs. the 2018 QB class. "

That is hard to say given the hip surrounding this class.

What does that mean, are some sort of forum snob?"

Was he the key player on teams loaded with NFL talent?  Nope.  ALA just won a title with Jalen Hurts playing QB for almost the entirety of the season.   Save the national titles argument that means nothing with regard to NFL potential.

That's nice, but it means nothing.  He'll have his chance to prove he's worthy of starting.

What Alabama's Coach Saban thinks "means noting". That is rich.

He will be playing for his career come fall. I wish them all well.

Good reply 26.

Give a guy a chance to prove himself.

Curious why you don’t give everyone the same opportunity - judge him fairly in an NFL settings and not just a few games.

who knows how he’ll do if Coordinators get a lot of tape on him and plan for him

That is true of any QB, but it never stopped Brady.

With regard to "worst Wideouts in the league with an unproven offensive line", part of that lies at the feet of T Mobile.

They may be equal.  The problem is they're highlights, the question for the NFL talent evaluators is always the complete picture.    For example, I could give you a Fitzpatrick highlight tape that would practically make Fitz look like Tom Brady, but he isn't.

That said, I went looking for old McCarron scouting videos that might be out there the other day and I found this, which is HYSTERICALLY funny.

If you like McCarron, Enjoy!  Give especial attention to the disconnect between what McShay is saying, and what McCarron is on the field, doing.

I think McBeane is more willing to risk upsetting the fan base and keep Allen on the sidelines because they have the solid backing of the owners, who they ultimately answer to.  Cases in point, the moves with Dareus, Darby, and Watkins.  All moves that were met with more than a little WTF? by the fans but that McBeane thought was in the long term interest of the Bills.  I suspect that McBeane believes letting Allen develop a little while behind McCarron is also in the long term interest of the Bills.
