It's tough to count him out, all I think about is that run against the Bears... He may have lost a step but he's still a man amongst boys. i always hate the "ignore anything good and he doesnt look good" but if you take out that one run.... when looking only at the first 5 weeks when healthy it puts him sub 4.0, and for the season sub 3.5ypc with a long of 17 yards i hate seeing it too, but its not hard to see why the GM and HC may be willing to move another way. and the timing is very nice to fred, honestly, despite the charity function issue. Get a piece of trash like RI and gets rid of one of the best leaders on the team. Terrible, terrible, terrible move. I think everyone has a special place in their heart for FJ. The sad reality is the guy has lost that burst he once had. His smarts, leadership, and picking up the blitz are still an invaluable asset. RI is bad but there has been much worse in this league...see Ray Rice and Ray Lewis. What we are witnessing is a change of the guard and is hard for many of us to digest. We can't judge Fred on his last eight games, when he was clearly playing hurt during a playoff push (and even then, still ahead of Brown on the depth chart). He looked good before the injury (averaging 4.3 ypc) and I'd expect him to have another year like that in the tank for 2015. With that being said we must fight on as Sir Andrew said. Freddie will always be a Buffalo Bill just like the one's before him. Numbers don't tell the entire story. In 30 years, today's Bills fans will still reminisce about Fred and tell his story. He is one of the true good guys in a sports world packed with arrogance, selfishness and insincerity. He will forever be a real-life example of how hard work and dedication can, and do, get results. I love Fred Jackson the person more than the player, which says a lot about him because I loved the player. Hopefully he remains tied to the city in future years. He has a career on ESPN or NFL network waiting for him. He has a couple years left though to make the playoffs, just won't be in Buffalo. I said this month's ago. This is football. Players won't always hang it up when their time is up. Why would they? Fred will probably find a team to give him a couple million more for another year, and good for him if he gets that deal. Bruce did, Thurman did, Andre did... doesn't change the reality that it was the right move. Fred won't hold a grudge. He knows it's the business. And it is a smart move for our organization. But remember, most of us lived through a day, a little over 15 years ago, when Bruce Smith, Andre Reed and Thurman Thomas all became "former Buffalo Bills". The Bills should just see if they can get Freddy to take a pay cut. Why should Fred take a pay cut? He hasn't had that long of a playing career or been paid above minimum for much of it. From the "Fred's best interest" POV he would be better to be released and seek another team that might pay him more as a FA. Far from it. I saw a lack of burst and many times where in very un-Fredlike fashion he would go down on first contact. I didn't see him getting those extra 2-3 yards after contact that has been his primary strength as an NFL running back his entire career. Not trying to be a hater because you're right, the man is a legendary Bill. And being a D3 hero makes me love him even more. But I think it's time.
