Mariotta to the J-E-T-S??

First thing is you start boycotting games. Organize a huge group of fans (during the game on Sunday) to give up their seats and go to a homeless shelter or soup kitchen and get some local press to cover it. Leave that stadium half empty in protest. Get a billboard outside the stadium demanding the team get sold. Do something besides sit their and pound chicken wings in the parking lot. Be vocal.

That being said you obviously just changed ownership and coaching. So hopefully you get a taste of postseason life again. With that defense anything is possible, but your coach has only had 2 winning seasons in his career, and hasn't sniffed the post season in 4 years. So, fingers crossed I guess.

This is why we say Jets fans aren't smart b.c they show it. The reason Rex failed in NJ was b.c your Jests owner hires dumb GMs who destroy teams. Edited by Beef Jerky

I was thinking about your hostage situation, I know that had you guys walking on egg shells. I can appreciate that. But if the Jets went a decade and a half without making the playoffs I might be signing up for a billboard encouraging them to move to LA.

Easy to say when you'd be better off cheering for the Giants anyways.:thumbsup:

F_____ the Jets.... I'd give them their old coach back if I could.... The stench of failure is still clinging to Rex's flabby body...I'm just hoping we tank the season bad enough to get a shot at Cardale Jones... If not Jones, then perhaps Kevin Hogan (Wacky throwing motion and all.)

Ohhhhhhh. Because I only watched ever game his teams played over 6 seasons and attended practices every year. How could I know more about Ryan than you?

You want the Bills to tank for a guy who hasnt even played a whole season in college football?

Brilliant. I wish you were hired as the Bills GM. We'd truly be going places.

Don't worry I also had to... So no you don't. Like I said Jets fans rarely know the team they root for, funny really.

interesting. Foles not included? I guess this assumes Mariota is still there at 6 (I have my doubts) and the Jets have some other plan at QB to pass on him.

As long as the Jets don't get Winston I'm ok with it. I think he will be a much more successful Pro than Mariota.

When you look at college QB's i think you have to strip out all their rushing yardage when projecting them in the NFL. These guys get to the NFL and they can't run like they used to or get hammered way too much. Even guys like Kap, RG3, Manziel, etc.. have to learn to be pocket passers in the NFL and they just aren't as good at it as we thought they'd be.

I don't know what's scarier? The Jets getting Mariotta or trading their pick to someone like the Eagles and picking up multiple future 1st round picks as compensation. A trade like that could net them a ton of talent in the next couple of drafts

I sure hope not. He looks good.

Todd McShay has Mariotta going to the Jets at 6 overall. He has Winston going #1 to Tampa. I know this is very early in the process and these first few mock drafts (this is 2.0) should be taken with a grain of salt, but I don't like playmakers ending up on rival AFC East teams. It might take Mariotta some time to become a star in this league but I don't want such a highly touted QB going to the Jets. If the Jets get him I hope at least they have to give up a bunch of picks to do so.

What are your thoughts? Will you be jealous if the Jets are able to get someone like Mariotta?

I will be very surprised if the Jets are able to get someone like Mariotta.

I had to review the draft order myself, so maybe someone else does too. Here it is (current signed QB in parentheses)

1) Tampa Bay (Glennon, Lobato)

2) Tennessee (Whitehurst, Tanney, Mettenberger)

3) Jacksonville (Bortles, Henne, Morris)

4) Oakland (Carr, McGloin, Schaub)

5) Washington (Cousins, Griffin)

I think if you're the TB or Tenn GM with that roster, and you don't take a QB, your seat gets plenty hot especially if that QB shows any potential somewhere else.

It is possible that Jacksonville and Oakland hold with Bortles and Carr, though by TBDian logic they didn't light the world on fire last year (especially Bortles with those 17 INTs) so their respective teams should pull another fish out of the pond this year. So if Mariota or Winston go past Tampa and Tenn, a trade up with Jacksonville or Oakland looks possible. I hope they hold the Jets feet to the fire if they try it.

I don't know why McShay has an audience though. Isn't he the one who touted Clausen as the best QB in his draft and likewise ranked Gabbert higher than Cam Newton?

I don't think he's shown himself to be a very accurate predictor, either of talent or of how NFL teams view talent.

2-5 have young QB's they are invested in. I think it's the most likely scenario that Mariotta falls to 6. The question is does a team try and trade up to get him if he falls out of the top 5? Rumor has it that Philly is ready to give up 4 picks to move up to get him. Probably 1st this year and next year and maybe even the 1st the year after that plus another high pick

They like Mettenberger. I can't see them going for the top QB's because they need so many other players. Maybe they would go for someone in the 2nd or 3rd

they said they aren't sold on Mett yet. No way Mariota lasts until 6 IMO.

@BobGlauber: Titans GM Webster on QB Mettenberger: "I was not able to give him a commitment (as the starter) for next season." Options open at No. 2.

Watching the QB portion of the combine, I've seen the same thing in Mariota that I saw in the National Championship. He looks terrified out there. Maybe it is just his general demeanor, but it is really off-putting. Watching him and Winston stand near each other is crazy because they are polar opposites in that respect.

They may like Mettenberger but he didn't exactly light it up last year - <60% completions and equal # of TDs and INTs. At least publically, the Titans are a long way short of committing to him.

To pass up a QB when you have the #2 pick, a GM has to either 1) already have a lot invested in their current QB (eg Rams/Bradford) 2) have a lot of confidence that the QB options at #2 really won't pan out and make him look stupid, because if he passes up a 1st round QB pick, Mr 6th round Mettenberger bombs, and Mr Coulda Hadja looks great he will get the "stupid" stamp

I think that Tenn likes Mettenberger & will therefor trade down.

Going with Mettenberger will be a huge mistake for them. But I can see them trading down. Will the Jets give up enough to move up to #2?

i can't see TN passing up a QB at 2. Mettenberger was a 6th rd pick and got hurt as soon as he played 6 games, after getting hurt in college. He was 0-6 for them. Why would they rely on that guy. The only question would be if they trade for someone like cutler then maybe they go defense or trade the pick.

Yeah, I was going to post the same thing. ZM has like a 19 qbr or something. He has ODB and Landry and got himself drafted in the 6th round.

To pass on one of the top 2 Qbs for him is just silly.

That said, I would worry about at Mariotta going to the Jets. He seems like a nice, laid back kid. The piranhas that are the media and fans would eat him alive.

That's actually the kind of kid that would survive the NYC media. It's the A type personality egomaniacs that get wrapped up in all that circus garbage. Laid back people tend to let that **** roll off them.

I watched some of the QB combine and from what I saw and heard I would not want him on the Jets. His mechanics and footwork looked good, far better than any other QB there and also far better than any QB currently on the Jets or Bills.

Maybe but folks are way too quick to anoint college QBs. Odds are, he will fail to live up to the hype. It's such an huge jump in competition. The Pac 12 is a terrible defense conference and too many Oregon QBs have been hot garbage on the NFL level. I think he is the best of the bunch, but long way to go. Plus we have a defense that shuts down Peyton and Rodgers. I'm not worried about a college kid. Prove it.

Agreed. I think the only team that could possibly swing a trade to 2 for MM is Philly (and it would be tough). That's because they could include Foles in the package. No way does TEN come off of the second overall pick without a QB acquired somehow and I can't think of another viable way they get one. Maybe that's why TEN has been playing coy on MM. That or maybe they're trying to entice JAX to flip picks by feigning interest in their top target.

Agreed, it's a huge jump from college to the NFL for a QB. But he seems to be starting off better than a lot of them.

I want Shane Ray at 6, or Cooper. But just like the 2008 draft we won one too many games, and will miss out on the two guys that can really help us. Not a fan of Mariota becuase he should NOT play day one. He needs at least a half season to sit and learn. And if the Jets take him there will be way too much pressure to start him day one. He will be a deer in the headlights by week 8. I actually like the kid, so I don't want the Jets and the NYC Media to destroy him.

I want Foles as our starter. He has just enough experince to hit the ground running an appease a pretty frustrated fan base. Jets fans aren't like Bills fans. We haven't seen the post season in 4 years and we are ready to burn down Florham Park. I have no idea how yall have accepted 15 years of futility.

The way you guys win the most games next year is with Ryan Fitzpatrick who knows chan's offense and a good wr in the draft. Good luck.

Guys.....MM going to the jets would be bad for us

Dont read too much into his demeanor......that is the way he is....extremely humble and lead by example

The kid is ultra talented and can do it all

How do you know this when he hasn't been asked to "do it all?"

Titans should take Mariotta at 2, let Mettenberger start all season if needed while MM has time to get NFL ready.

Another team might make Tenn a offer they can't refuse for #2 is another good option.

If they do, they'll regret not taking L. Williams. The guy is the best football player in the draft, and it's not close.

Eli Manning is the same type, and he's done just fine.

Eli has the last name so he had a longr leash to begin with. He has been nearly run out of town numerous times. The Giants got hot twice. Given how patient folks are with QBs these days, Mariotta might not have long if he struggles.
