  1. I don't care what they've drafted in the past. I suggest "Wizard" Beane get to work and start filling these holes now. You have an elite QB, that needs the best talent possible around him to succeed. Anything less is selling this franchise short. A DT at #28 is not putting this team in the Super Bowl next year.
  2. Yup. But Beane paid Poona Ford, Jordan Phillips, Deonte Harty and Trent Sherfield instead. Wizard!
  3. I agree Diggs and Davis fell off and Shakir rose, and Kincaid looks like he will be excellent. But to me, we still want two good WRs. It's an important position. Having Diggs not be good was extremely costly - seems like they had already factored and game planned for Davis' dropoff. I want a good rookie WR - hoping for McConkey/Franklin/coleman/AD group. But I also want a good vet WR. I'm hoping the moves Beane made can bring home both - that the man I know as a wizard.
  4. So for seemingly no reason at all, Von agreed to give us $8.6 million in cap relief this year. This is one time where I will say Beane is a wizard. I have no clue how he pulled it off. Just insane that before even restructuring Allen's contract we have already gotten under the salary cap.
  5. Replacing Sexy Rexy and his brother Blubbo. Wizard Beane followed [ thanks @Alphadawg7 correction] a few months later.
  6. To quote others here sometime ago: Beane is a Wizard. He has a huge salary cap problem in 2024. Watching him address that will be primo entertainment.
  7. Van Demark has played well at LT in the pre-season, so maybe there's some hope there, but I don't think he's shown well in limited time at RT, actually. Collins is pretty washed and a backup at best. Using Brown in a trade up means you are losing two starters from the best Oline the Bills have had in years, and it was only pretty good. In short, I think that is a pretty awful move to use Brown as a chip to move up. Beane put himself in this position by trading Diggs, but before that, by not investing sufficiently at WR. I think it will be hard to get any of the top 3, and expensive to get the fourth. The WR room has to be addressed, though, so I guess we'll see how much of a wizard our GM really is.
  8. I mean maybe there's some NFLPA rule against it but I'd assume as long as he agreed to a deal it'd work but nobody would ever ***** do that. The only way to do it is to create one that somehow benefits him more while reducing the cap hit, and while we call Beane a wizard he doesn't have actual magic. Though maybe I'm just not understanding what exactly you're saying.
  9. Yes, Beane has final say. He does take McDermott's views heavily under advisement especially when it comes to a pick where there are 2 guys they could pick that are graded pretty equal. And that's how it should work, quite frankly. Do people really want Beane to say "EFF off Sean, I'll pick guys and you figure out how they fit"? Who wouldn't want a team where the HC and GM work together? It's almost odd the way certain fans attribute every good pick to "Beane's a wizard" and every bad pick to "Ungh, McDermott has too much say so". The McDermott Derangement Syndrome on this board is seriously comical at times IMO.
  10. Hear me out here… maybe Beane is such a wizard that he’s pumping up Diggs value so that he can trade him to an AFC rival and watch him light the league on fire at a record pace with Eric Moulds and Peerless Price for the first half of the season until he turns into Frankenstein’s pumpkin and plays the rest of the season like his feet have been cast into the concrete of the foundation of the stadium… wait, I think I have some of the details confused… 🤔
  11. This sucks! Everyone knows KC special teams was built for waxing gibbous! And 'wizard' Beane has put together a roster for Waning Crescent! This is why you build a dome people! - to block out the phase of the moon! Pegula is so stupid! McD should be fired if he can't figure out how to overcome their obvious moon phase advantage! We're doomed.
  12. “It’s business, it’s not personal”. A lot of McDermott detractors would say he is not a horrible coach. However like you so eloquently laid out with your “of mice and men” analogy, things go awry. We are now going into year 7 with 1 afc championship appearance. I’m sorry but that’s a problem. I understand many are infuriated with the ungrateful negative Nancy’s. But on the flip side many are infuriated with the good ship lolly pop “beane is a wizard” “McDermott is doing a great job crowd.”I think most can agree that the bills are not achieving at the level they should be. One group wants to be divorced from the negativity and the other wants to be divorced from complicit apologists. The truth is somewhere in the middle. I’m older so I don’t have time for excuses. I have more of a sense of urgency. When you are younger, there is a lot more time to wait.
  13. I think the cap issue is somewhat overblown the number will go up by a big amount again and Bean is a wizard, not to mention if there is anything can do to help he's going to do it, within reason obviously. Defense could still be great if we stick with McDermott calling plays getting Milano and Benford back for year 2 with a whole offseason together. Also another offseason for Williams to develop, also I'm just not as worried about McDermott finding ways to fill in the gaps in the secondary White will also be back. Another leap, what's he going to start levitating and shooting lasers out of his eyes?
  14. Beane drafts 3 DEs in the first 2 rounds and then signs a 32 year old DE coming off a major injury to a 6 year $114 million contract. What a ***** wizard
  15. I understand we all have our pitchforks out right now, but Beane has been fantastic as a GM. His draft hit rate is above average. His creativity with the cap is above average. His trades have been mostly good. How do we go from "Beane is a wizard!" every off-season to saying he's a problem?
  16. No one called him a wizard for the move. It was clear that pass rush help was needed. He went out and got Von the same way he did with Floyd this past offseason. You may be frustrated with the season. But Beane shouldn't be shouldering much blame. The dude has given McDermott the pieces. McDermott is the one failing it
  17. Next person that calls Beane a Wizard….
  18. Beane is an enigma. Some claim he is a wizard. Others say he has missed out a lot on early round draft picks, has bad contracts, and now has aging and oft injured players on defense. I’m curious to see what others think. What say you?
  19. And that was the point of my thread. People need to start being more objective. Everything said objectively about McDermott the past three years have now come to fruition. I’m just so tired of hearing the nonsense “beane is a wizard”’ “big baller beane” blah blah blah. Beane for as good as he has been has missed a lot on many things too numerous to list. I’m not advocating for him to be fired, however people need to start being a little bit more objective in their assessment of him. Just like they should have been with McDermott all along.
  20. I don't need to watch it, I knew they dropped the ball by not selecting Mahomes in 2017. THAT team and THIS franchise passing on a QB in that draft was preposterous. The excuse that they needed more than 4 months to evaluate a QB class() was the first of many ridiculous excuses made by McBeane. The Mahomes hype in summer of 2017 was huge.....his lone start backed up the hype......and by the time he went off in the opener of the 2018 season I could already envision our new young QB perennially being 2 steps behind even if he turned out to be as great as his athletic ceiling. The reason I thought that far ahead was because the Chiefs had been eating the Bills lunch since Reid arrived. They dealt some critical blows to the playoff hopes of Marrone and Rex teams that were about equally talented. They outmaneuvered the Bills for Alex Smith. They were a problem and as big a rival to me as anyone outside of NE. But for most Bills fans they were just another team on the schedule. I was very irritated to hand them a QB........with a below market value trade no less........when we were so desperate for our own QB. When Allen was just playing like a wild man with mixed results in 2018 and Mahomes was being the most prolific passing first year QB I was already figuring "best case" scenario was that Allen could be Jim Kelly to Mahomes' Dan Marino. Marino had excellent individual and team success at the beginning but 5-6 years in Kelly started winning the majority of their matchups because of a better roster and the Bills team surpassed Miami. Allen held up his part of the bargain by improving quickly............Beane just proved to be to much of a work in progress as a GM and never was able to out-personnel the Chiefs. As I've said before though.........it was wishful thinking that the Bills organization could go from decades of dysfunction and terrible stewardship and suddenly hit on the perfect GM and HC and QB combination all at once. I like Beane and think he could actually eventually live up to the BS "wizard" hype he got early on.........but it's entirely possible that his best work won't line up perfect with the prime of JA17. The lesson is that sometimes the initial moves a regime makes can be the most impactful.
  21. I'm a big fan of The Who and Tommy is one of my favorite albums, but that movie was really bad. It had a couple of good scenes, like Elton John doing Pinball Wizard, Tina Turner singing the Acid Queen, and a scantily-clad Ann-Margret in a tub full of baked beans, but outside of that, it was unwatchable. I thought the Broadway musical was good, though.
  22. You both forget that Beane is a wizard.
  23. Also, Beane's record in the 2nd round is kind of cringey. Drafting is hard, and there's a huge amount of randomness here. We consider it a good class if you get one high-quality starter and a couple of contributors in any particular year. Any GM is going to miss more than he hits. It's fair to acknowledge that Beane has a lot of not-quite-hits in the first round and outright misses in the 2nd round. Then again, the guy does seem like a wizard when it comes to the cap and free agency.
  24. I have a friend who is a lifelong fan of the Bears. He said Roquan was not having a good season for the Bears. They got a first round pick for him. I guess he fits the Ravens better than the Bears, but I'd rather have Edmunds on our team. I think they will find a way to sign him. Beane is a wizard at this. They'll structure deals that kick the can down the road, and the cap will continue to increase.
