After enduring a relatively bare cupboard since Kelly retired so many years ago, do the Bills suddenly have a pretty respectable stable of QB's?

until next week when we'll want to toss him out of a moving car(figuratively)

Tough call, Bills did have a game more then the Bears plus a week of camp more and it showed imho, Bills looked more oiled then last week. The good news is Fitz looked a lot better then last week. Week 3 for consistency and we'll be able to say more imo.

I like the signing of Fitzy and I think Hamdan is a decent backup as well. I have to admit, Fitz's play last week made me a little nervous.

The Bills are missing a confident stud QB. I think Edwards has potential to become that, but he isn't that guy yet.

I was thinking the same thing, but quickly chastised myself by repeating, "It's just preseason".

You know, I have dubbed you 'Dean of perspective' for a reason.

But what a difference a week makes.

GO BILLS!!!

I have not had a problem with Fitzpatrick this summer. I thought the media (and fans) were a bit harsh on the guy. He's definitely a game QB, not a practice QB. WHen he releases the ball, I'm always confident that a Bills player will be on the other end. This is a far cry from the backup QB we had last season (JP). Also, Fitz can hit the guys in stride on short/medium passes which is a gigantic upgrade from last years backup. I'm definitely liking him as the backup. He's got that sense of purpose, football smarts and field vision,

I only saw him a few times, last year. But I generally liked what I saw, for the most part.

I think many are troubled by his lack of a tight spiral. You have to admit, his passes can look a bit ugly. But they seem to find their mark fairly often.

Fitz should have silenced many of the critics tonight, Ryan had good zip on his ball, he played with authority and the fellas a real gamer. Our 2nd string offense didn't miss a beat and looked like they could go up against most first string defenses in the league and still move the ball well.

In my opinion the Buffalo Bills are one of the more talented teams in the league now. I think TE is a championship caliber QB in the makings and it appears we have a very capable backup QB who could also go out and win ball games if called upon.

I really like our ball club :)

They said the same things about Billy Kilmer, too, and he had a nice career. I think Fitz will be fine as the backup. I'm not sure why he gets dissed so much...thought he filled in admirably for a horrible Cincy team last year.

Maybe it's just me....I thought Trent had a much better outing tonight. However, I kinda feel the kid over thinks his throws. He too me isn't relying on his instincts and experience as much as he should. I wish he would play from his gut a bit more. To quote Stevie Ray Vaughn, "When I think about it, I screw it up."

He did seem to have a bit more command in the huddle. And he was after guys to line up quick. I liked that.

Fitz looked loads better. But I honestly think Hamdan is our best QB. The guys just seem to respond to him and he seems very confident.

I'm glad Gibby and Trent are good friends, some of the chroise needs to rub off on Edwards.

How ironic.

Last week Fitz struggled and Hamdan looked good, and tonight, Fitz looked good and Hamdan struggled.

I do'nt think anyone on this board has any delusions of Ryan Fitzpatrick being anything more than a back-up QB in this league.

Having said that, he played much better tonight. I hope that he keeps it up. If Trent should get injured(God forbid), we will need someone who we can be confident in to get the job done.

Speaking of Trent, I thought he played great tonight. While he was 10/10, he did not pass for big yardage, but he looked like he was in command and seems to be handling the no-huddle very well. I just wish that our 1st team offense could have scored a TD. I know we were on the 14 yardline on 3rd & Goal, but could'nt we have tried to score a TD?

I wpo;d not go that far but clearly there is potential here for this to be the relatively stable cupboard of QBs we want.

#1- Edwards- He has been very impressive for a young QB so far. He has shown very good accuracy with his throws and of great import after PatPat Bledsoe and run for your life Losman the quick decision making and quick release are a welcome boon (particularly with the challenge of a very extremely young OL).

I think the complaints by some about his arm strength are reduced to simple whining and bleating by him doing fine in upper body strength tests at the combine. He has not established himself as a longball threat but I attribute this to bad footwork many young QBs have rather than some ability problem. Simply getting more snaps and practice should solve this problem.

He has demonstrated more mobility than advertised and I think we have to be pleased the escapability he has shown do far.

The negative though is whether he is actually injury prone (which I define as losing PT to injury 3 times in a 2 year period. In his two years Edwards has lost PT to an arm injury, to a concussion, and also a pre-season game due to an unreleased injury. Sort of meets the standard but sorta not. His history of injury in college makes the injury prone fear a real one so the jury is still out.

#2- His pretty lengthy and credibly adequate job starting a bunch of games as a sub for Palmer indicates he is the real deal as a back-up. The job he did last night simply confirms this thought, We need someone who can step in and be credible for three games or less if needed. I am pretty comfortable with Fitzpatrick meeting that standard. Ironically, the best thing about him is that he is not a credible alternative to be a #1. The media and some vocal whining Bills fans have demonstrated they are not mature enough to deal with having two credible longterm starters at QB. Fitzpatrick is not a credible alternative as a long term starter.

#3- Hamdan was perfect tonight. This football fan hopes we never use the disaster QB, He handled the team wekk leading us on a longish drive for a TD. The good news is that his one INT was so bad it will likely nip in the bud any future psychosis of Bills fans and let the coaches use him for the disater QB he is,

To early to declare victory but the QB situation looks good,

Exactly. :) IIRC, the knock on Fitzy is that he's inconsistent. If he plays the rest of the pre-season like this then I'll feel pretty good about him going into the season.

Ill say this, he has more of a football IQ than Losman has.

I would be ok with him as a backup but ask this question again after the preseason is over.

But he did have good game tonight.

Gangsta Kitty has a higher football IQ than Losman.

Let's see what their record is during the season. Preseason is one thing. Keep in mind this is a team that went 0-6 in the division last year and Trent looked pathetic in many of those games. Let's see how he does in the real games but the signs sure are encouraging.

Absolutely. This is only preseason.

But if you are going to get all negative by a poor preseason performance, it only stands to reason you would be happy with a good one.

Since I have been bashing Fitzpatrick since the signing I think I should acknowledge that he played very well last night. If that is how he is going to play on a consistent basis he will be a good back-up. I highly doubt it however. The times he looks like he did last night versus the times he looks weak is not a good ratio. Hopefully next week he plays well too.

Given the quality of some of the recent TSW chatter and the tenor of the national discussion on health care I wouldn't bet that will be the case.

Me either. The tide against DJ has nothing to do with pre-season, nor should it. It's his entire head coaching performance that supports all the doubt.

Not sure if this was intended for me specifically or just to a general audience. If the former, I would say that I try to be somewhat balanced in my posts. The reality is that this organization, at best, has been mediocre for a decade. I also realize that hope springs eternal this time of year in the NFL.

My biggest concern with Trent has simply been his inconsistency. Perhaps not completely his fault as he has to have receivers that get open. At times last year he played efficiently as he did last night. At other times, the Cleveland game especially comes to mind, (as it was very winnable) he looked lost, confused and downright pathetic (until the final drive of that game). Point simply is that until the season gets underway and teams start gameplanning for him and the no-huddle we will not be sure what we have.

Again - signs are encouraging but so was a 4-0 start last year.

Meant for general audience.

Absolutely. This is just preseason. You can learn some things, and see some progress, but none of it means anything if the coaches screw the pooch with horrible play calling and poor clock management.

But I like the talent on this team (for the most part) and the use of the no huddle has me cautiously optimistic.

It is nice to have hope ... and positive signs ..... It was also nice to see that the Bills looked "on" without T.O. in the game. It only portends better things when he is available. On a more tactical note I have been happy to see the Bills throwing more to the middle of the field in both games. For reasons mystifying to me this seemed to be a patch of real estate they ignored last year.

Runs also seem to be focused between the tackles.

On another note .. while it was against second or third stringers I was very impressed with McIntyre last night. Perhaps more of a short yardage weapon than the Bills may have thought.

Well said. People love to overreact. Fitz struggled in OTAs and his first couple days in camp. What people didn't take into account is that Fitz was learning a completely new system and getting familiar with his team. He was a very solid signing and is improving every week.
