Stads Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I didn't stay up for McDermott's presser. Did anyone ask about the missed challenge on the Dolphins' first drive? 1 Quote
reddogblitz Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Great win! One thing I was glad to see was no Josh designed runs and no brotherly shoves. Hopefully this continues. 2 Quote

Baba Booey Posted September 19 Posted September 19 It’s obvious Tre White is old and slow! The speed of Miami ate him up all night long. We maybe in trouble against high powered offenses. I hope Maxwell is all they are expecting, thought Strong might be a better option right now. Quote

Difficult? 31 points and a missed field goal. 360 yards... 6.3 yards per play... 6/11 on 3rd down. Not sure what you're attempting to say. I thought it was a great game with two divisional foes going at it hard. It was a quality win in my book. Whatever you say. The Bills played poor 3rd down defense... that's my one criticism. The Dolphins only had 276 yards of offense. That's a small number for those who don't know. They had us on the ropes? Was that when we were punting from midfield with over 10 minutes left tied at 21? Or was it when we intercepted Tua with 3 minutes left while leading by 7? The Bills scored 31 points and missed a field goal. They had 360 yards, were 6/11 on 3rd downs, and averaged 6.3 yards per play... with 4 dropped passes. Are you sure the Dolphins stymied us? As knowledgable Bills fans here have been saying for months, the team signed multiple significant defensive free agents (Bosa, Hoecht, Ogunjobi, Shaq) not to mention Tre White and Dane Jackson. They drafted 6 significant rookie defenders in Hairston, Sanders, Walker, Hancock, and Strong. They have a new Senior Defensive Assistant and Co-Defensive Line Coach. The defense was never going to hit the ground running... they are expected to improve over the course of the season. If you're talking about the running game, the Bills rushed 27 times for 157 yards and averaged 5.8 yards per rush. That's elite. Our defense gave up 276 yards, 21 points, and 19 first downs to a team with 3 elite skill position players... Hill, Waddle, and Achane. Their QB was having an excellent game before the Bills FORCED the interception with Walker immediately in Tua's face and Bernard reading the play. The defense played poorly on 3rd down but they assuredly did not suck. It's really sad to read some of the comments in this thread... revealing so little understanding and perspective... and so much entitlement. Two of the best receivers in the NFL combined for 10 catches and 88 yards and 2 TDs. Not bad. Dalton Kincaid by himself had 66 yards and a TD. The Dolphins scored 1 TD in the 2nd half. So the win against Baltimore doesn't count? How about the 15 wins last year? Were any of those teams good? 31 points and a missed field goal... 360 yards... 6.3 yards per play... 6/11 on 3rd down. Good points. Yes our 3rd down defense was poor and yes, Groot is a disappointment. The defense kept the ball in front of them and gave up just 7 points in the 2nd half. They didn't give up many points or many yards. And as I wrote upthread, they're gonna get better. One of the Bills drives you mention (in the 3rd quarter) ended when Coleman and then Ty Johnson dropped perfect throws. As far as attacking deep offensively, Josh is not forcing the ball down the field which is partly why the Bills never turn the ball over anymore. In fact on the pass to Elijah Moore to convert the 2nd and 16, Josh had Keon open deeper but settled for the easier throw. Thank you very much! Yes, everyone here's always bagging Andy Reid for keeping a little in reserve for the big games but when the Bills slow play an inferior opponent, it's because they lack imagination. No one can clap with McD!!! And Bosa should know better... he's gonna hurt himself if he tries... Thank you Sage. You really would have thought the Bills lost the game reading all the shyt here. Exactly... thank you. Yes, because as we all know, you can declare a rookie a bust after the 3rd game of their career. Thank you for some much needed context. It's as if people can't remember before this preseason... much less the 17 drought years. 22 posts quoted? I noticed that this is how you do it but man this one is impressive! 2 1 Quote

Miami was methodically moving the ball in a one score game and that entire sequence gave them momentum and a chip for their shoulder. Quote

He had one great vintage Tre play in the first half when he knocked down a pass but other than that Tre was often well out of position and slow. It may not have been a problem had we gotten any semblance of a pass rush but Tua had all day to throw. What really infuriates me is the glacier like slowness that the Bills make adjustments on defense. No changes to the pass rush, no changes to the coverages. Tua looked really comfortable in making his reads like he was in practice. I really dont get zone coverage when each member of the zone defense is so far off the ball (and so slow) that they cannot make get a finger on the targeted receiver. I noticed that Babbich at least attempted to get more men right to the line to jam the receivers on some plays later on the game after that ridiculously easy 2nd Miami TD but due to the slowness of the Bills Dbs, they often got left in the dust. 1 Quote

Two of the best and fastest WRs in the NFL combined for 88 yards and an 8.8 YPC. White played his first 100% snaps game this year and had a tackle for a loss and a pass defensed. Not only did White play well, he played better than Benford. Edited September 19 by Sierra Foothills 1 Quote

Trey has always given a big cushion or had problems when playing soft coverage. My thought is this is scheme. I didn't think he looked that slow. In fact, he had an up and down game and played very well versus the run and on a few other coverage events I didn't think he played that bad overall. We're just going to still assume Tyreek Hill is the fastest guy in the league. I mean everybody has trouble covering him. Waddel is fast too. Miami has a tough wide receiver core, especially when two is getting the ball out quickly without effect from the pressure and effect on his timing. That was the core problem with the day. 1 1 Quote

RichRiderBills Posted September 19 Posted September 19 (edited) I just want to say that the Bill's overall defensive strategy was basically similar to what we always do. Make them drive the field. Try to get pressure. Keep everything in front of you and count on the dolphins making mistakes. This is similar to what we do almost every time we play them. Frankly, aside from keeping the score close longer than it should have, it basically worked i- though he played better than usual....old Tua made a mistake in the end. I thought Tua played great prior to this. Offense played pretty damn good. I don't have any big complaints apart from a few miscues that caused those few stalled drives. The missed field goal was unfortunate. Again, the offensive philosophy was not to light them up and go deep all the time. Low risk ball control. Don't generate turnovers. This worked. The difference in this game is we probably should have won 38 to 14. How would folks feel if the score was that? I'm not going to complain too much apart from it was a little bit more stressful than it should have been. Edited September 19 by RichRiderBills 2 Quote
BRH Posted September 19 Posted September 19 With a win in Miami later this season, the all-time rivalry record (including playoffs) will stand at 62-62-1. Those of us who lived through the '70s have been rewarded handsomely since then. 2 1 1 1 Quote

Bangarang Posted September 19 Posted September 19 (edited) TJ Sanders played 59% of the snaps on D and you'd have no idea. He has been invisible. Kinda concerning how Keon couldn't contribute despite the shockingly bad secondary for the Dolphins. Allen and Cook are amazing though. Edited September 19 by Bangarang Quote
