Welcome to your mid-40’s!! All the old guys I play pickup hoops with (myself included) have shoulder problems. And we all figure out workarounds.

Brees’s is, no doubt, worse— but we all have stuff as we get older!

When my son was in high school he played QB and would want to throw the ball around, which I LOVED, but I had a partially torn rotator cuff.  I couldn’t throw it back overhand, and it only went so far underhand. So on longer passes I would punt the ball back and he would field them. That’s fielding a lot of punts, and he happened to be the punt returner and never lost one all year.  (That is despite not calling for a couple fair catches that were clearly in order! 😂)

Also this doesn't meet the threshold for me to consider it "heartbreaking".  It's sad but cmon, guy made 270M, won a super bowl and SB MVP, and is going to be in the HOF.  I'd trade the use of my right arm for the bills to do that, and i don't even play for them.

It definitely sucks what these guys go through, especially the TBI stuff. But, they know the risks and get paid obscene amounts of money. It's a choice.

I know this definitely sucks then you add into it that he has to use his other arm to play catch with his kid but he knew the risk and took it and I'm sure he has enough money to afford the best doctors in the world to make it much more tolerable and not to mention it probably makes it feel better every time he looks at his bank statement .

Look into it. https://www.stryker.com/us/en/about/news/2023/stryker-now-offers-the-only-fda-cleared-pyrocarbon-bearing-mater.html  I "managed it" for ten years and suffered uneccesarily. I had sleep issues, pain and loss of range of motion. All gone now. Got it done at 55. The only good thing was becuse I hesitated I was able to use this newer product. That said you should do your research and explore options.

Stryker is the best.  I have 2 of their knees

Hard disagree.

Pain sucks!!!!

Living with pain sucks!!!!

No amount of money, fame or accolades is worth that.

That's really sad...it is crazy how much of a toll football takes on these athletes as the years go on, even for younger guys like Brees.

He said if he wants to play catch with his kids in the backyard, he has to throw with his left hand because his right arm "no longer works".

Said he didn't want to retire but he was left no other choice and if he could still be out there playing he would be.

Also said the Dolphins medical team was spot on in their assessment of his injuries but that the surgeon gave him a window of time that allowed him to still play with the surgery he did.

So... would he take the vet minimum?

Just go with "the stranger" approach

I accidentally did it the opposite way (sat on my you know what) and it felt like I was doing it to someone else 😔

Sad news for sure.  A left handed Brees would still be the Bills 3rd best QB all time.  Probably my favorite non Bills QB of all time.

We don't agree a ton but we are in lock step on this. If I had come to the NFL 4 or 5 years later than I did when it started to have its 00s growth in the UK and I didn't have a reason to root for a team I'd be a Saints fan because of Drew Brees.

Oh, boo-hoo! Seriously? Heartbreaking? Hardly.

completely agree. Amputate my arm for the wealth he amassed in his career. Not to mention the glory.

Yeah it really is sad story - and its why I think its wild when people get so upset when people like Cook or other athletes try to get what they feel they can or what they are worth.  What these guys risk and sacrifice to play this game to entertain us is significant, so much so its resulted in tings as extreme as deaths.  I know the Seau family, and Jr. Seau's situation was so tragic and devastating for so many.

My wife and I are die hard football fans, we have two young boys, and my 2 year old has athlete written all over him.  We both day dream of him being the QB for my Bills or her Niners at some point - but the reality is we would much prefer they became stars in Golf or something instead.  Never really thought too heavy about the risks of football until I had 2 sons...and while we dont currently have any plans to prevent them from playing, we are both secretly rooting for them to dominate at Golf instead.
