The 2024 UFL Thread

Most of these unis look pretty bad. I really wish Houston kept the Gamblers over the Roughnecks.

They looked 200% better and had a less cheesy name.

If they had, I would be rooting for them simply because they're cool and were Jim Kelly's team.

Otherwise, I have no ties to these teams. Currently I'm partial to the DC Defenders.

That means you might not like football as much as the next. Literally.

There are people who pore over hundreds of hours of college film to scout players, but watching a few spring games is too much??

It's like watching 2 created teams in Madden play. Just nothing to grab my attention and pull me in. Lower skilled players and coaching staffs. Hard to gain any rooting interest. And the whole thing is headed by Dwayne Johnson who may just be the most oversaturated and over exposed celebrity in America.

I'll be tuned in all weekend.

I like the fact that Memphis, San Antonio, Birmingham, and St.Louis are in this league. The idea of a spring league in smaller markets without an NFL team is great. Fan enthusiasm is important to me when trying to get into a new league. If I don’t see any interest in the stands, why should I be interested? It adds a human element that I find important. On the same note, I don’t understand why these leagues keep trying DC, Dallas, and Houston. Texas loves football, but those large markets aren’t going to care, they already have enough football to stay occupied.

Is the team name for Brahmas on Brahma, one of the major gods of Hinduism, or Brahma chickens or Brahma Beer?

Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) partially owns the team and "the Brahma Bull" was one of his wrestling nicknames.

Fun fact, the roster includes former Bill Marquez Stevenson.  I remember many people thinking that he was going to be a hidden gem a couple of years ago.

So they (and he) are probably named after the American Brahman hybrid zebuine-taurine bull and its Sexual precocity.

DC would sell out their 17K soccer stadium. In fact they are famous for their "beer snakes "

I found some of the games last year enjoyable that I watched, I'll keep checking it out if it's entertaining. I'll be honest this past year I never believed in the whole "sports is rigged" people who said this every year but the way the Chiefs just went from being average to barely making the playoffs and then some miraculous reason nobody could cover Kelce all over again just has me believing otherwise so this may be what I need to offset my thinking for awhile.

Idk about a conspiracy, but I do think the NFL gladly welcomes another dynasty besides the Pats, since so far there is no real scandal involving the Chiefs that might tarnish it.

Very few people like spring "pro" football...so the poster was correct.

This is true, so the poster was literally incorrect.

DC Defenders have Gregg Williams as a coach.  Every other team should just forfeit their games with DC immediately. 🤨

Everyone wants Gregg Williams on their staff. He's fighting off gratuitous offers and denying call after call. What a guy.

In all seriousness, the DC team might be the most cohesive with all it's components: from staff to system to players to venue and fans. I think I'm rooting for them most, and part of the reason is because I hate the Commanders.

Yah i was thinking the same thing, one would think that they would have put a bit more thought into the naming of these teams which could help with their popularity . Maybe ??

Hell I watch some CFL games so why not this. Besides BSF has said this is where Buffalo will end up in football lol

Stick around, 'Joy Boy'...they're thinking of renaming the Edmonton Elks to the Edmonton Goats.

Currently watching the DC Defenders vs the San Antonio Brahmas. Wade Phillips is the Brahmas HC and Gregg Williams is the DC for the Defenders.

Brahmas look decent, they had a nice trick play on a punt where the punter threw a 40yd TD pass.

There are some things I like this league. You get to hear the refs and coaches talk a lot more. The Defenders HC was blasting his WR after a key drop. Coaches can challenge any play (don’t know how many challenges they get per game?)
