Sal: The Bills roster now stands at 58

Wouldn’t be horribly shocked to see them bring back Kyle Allen to compete for the QB3 on the Sqaud.

The way I'm seeing it, we need:

RB2

WR2 (Boundary)

OG/C (1 Depth)

OT (1 Depth)

DE4

3T Behind Oliver

1T Behind Jones

CB4 (Boundary)

Safety (Starter)

Considering where we were a week ago, we've made a LOT of progress.

Outside “WR2” is Samuel

WR 2 - Round 1

DT3  - Round 2 (if we keep pick)

RB2 - Round 4 (your boy Allen works)

I expect us to sign a quality Safety soon, and another to compete with Rapp

Allen isn't slipping to round 4. I'd go with Isaiah Davis in the mid-rounds, or if you go a different direction, Dylan Laube.

I think vet S is next, and probably about it, but who knows?

Nope. Samuel is a predominantly a Slot. Has been so his entire career. You can split him out Wide from time to time, but he's not a guy you can exclusively play there.

Brian Thomas will be WR2.  Samuel will be WR3 in multiple roles. Shakir will trade off slot or outside WR4.

If they land Brian Thomas and they can throw Diggs, Shakir, Samuel, Thomas, Kincaid, and Knox at a team the only thing stopping the passing game is themselves.
In other words I don’t think the Bills are going to be in a position to get Thomas without getting into the teens but it is a nice thought.

We will still add 30 players :)

I was actually wondering that myself… Do they just go the UDFA route and bring as many as they can to bolster the numbers to 90 after the draft…?

Dont really see much else in terms of active FA’s. Maybe a Safety?

Going to have to trade up if you want him. Can’t see him making it to #20 with all the recent moves and a great combine workout for him make that a certainty.

Neither do I. The only one I would bring back is J.P. I think we should fill out the Dline in the draft.  (Sweat, Smith and Solomon)etc.

As far as Safety, I think they'll bring in Jordan Fuller to pair with Rapp and draft 2.

Still think they are going to go BPA at pick 28.  I don't see them trading up.  They will either get the best WR , DT or S that is still available on the board at that pick.  If they do trade up they are going to have to leverage picks from next year.  I don't think 4th, 5th, and 6th round picks are even bait to tempt a team to get into the teens this year to move up.

Bring back Lawson on vet minimum again. Sign another Safety from the stocked FA pool.

Draft your next WR1, some DL, and some DBs and lets roll.

need to drag the waiver wire on LB depth. elsewise we will dredge the FA pool come November when we need just 1 competent fill in position for depth.

Some interesting names there.  Randy Gregory, Isaiah Simmons, Bud Dupree, Shaq Leonard.

Isaiah Simmons would not be cheap but he's an interesting player - 6'4 - 240 has played safety and end.

I like Shaq but wouldn't consider til post draft. If we can get our hands on Maason Smith from LSU 6'6" 315 who can play outside or in, we won't need to pay Shaq.

We can list Smith as DT and keep a spot open  for DE.

Need a Center too. Probably in the early/mid rounds of the draft.

Beane has a lot of calls to make over the next couple of months.

if we go from Morse to Connor Williams I will vomit. I'd not mind Connor McGovern, though. Just to have two of the same name on the roster playing side by side. Two Connor McGoverns as better than 1. Humphries or Linderbaum were right there in our hands. damn it. it was the obvious freaking move!!!!!

also, how is it that i mentioned 3 different connors in the same freaking post....freaking gen z.

I think back to when we had an elite secondary anchored by Tre, Poyer, and Hyde all in their primes.

This secondary doesn't inspire the same confidence.

As Gronk would say if he was honest: No worth taking a cheap shot at risking a game check.

I would agree that the Bills will pick BPA according to their board. However, I can’t imagine they have a S at #28. I think it is more like to be in this order of importance DT, Edge, WR.  I would be shocked if the pick is not one of these three positions.  Maybe they go S in round #2 only because they do not have a rd #3 pick.  Keep in mind the safety “market” looks to be significantly devaluing across the league.

We're going to sign a veteran safety at some point soon - that way Beane can fully hedge his bets in the draft

Especially since there's a lot of unsigned guys out there that at some point, the prices will start to come down

Heck - even Hyde might decide to come back and can be had at a relatively low price

That way, they can draft a safety in the middle rounds and ease him into dime looks and ST to start

Its a done deal, the Bills want him and guaranteed no one else will draft him first.

Realistically the Bills must jump Cincy and trade with Jacksonville @17. The chart says the Bills would have to give 28, 60 and a 4th this year and next.  It’s not guaranteed but it would be less costly than going after MHJ or Odunze. Or we sit at 28 and hope Mitchell falls to us which is also unlikely. I just don't want to settle for Franklin, Coleman or Leggette in the 2nd round. I think Thomas would be worth it.  But in life nothings guaranteed!

So the Bills basically have all slot receivers... even Kincaid was drafted saying he'd run in the slot.

And at this point in his career, even Diggs might be better off in the slot 😅

We still need a #2 WR but we could argue that Safety, DT, DE are more pressing issues since the signing of Samuel.  The AFC is an on-slaught of talent in the passing game with all QB's and WR's.  We all know who these guys are so no need to mention them now.

RAPP as our S#1 position needs to prove his value, no stupid penalties or illegal hits head hunting this year.  He has a huge responsibility on D playing back there for the entire season,  since he is now starter # 1 of the 2 we need for 2024, and is signed on a new 3 year deal.

Poyer was the hammer back there for us,  and he was not afraid to lay the smack down on anyone that was around him.  Hyde was the more coverage strategic oriented player of the two.

I still think we need a #1 S on this team.  The premium choices from the draft are Nubin, Bullard, Kinchens, Hicks ot Bullock.  I can see a few of these guys still being there realistically at #28,  but now I doubt that's who they will pick.  When you look at this past years playoff loss to KC, and the play of our safeties in that game, we got torched by a very aged Kelce, Rice and Scantling. Watching this during this playoff game was tough to deal with. We showed how old and slow our safeties were in this game that's for sure.

The current list of unsigned FA's available at safety are not limited, but they also all around the 28 to 33 age bracket, and there are only a few that would be worth signing based on their past performance IMO.  It's risky to sign a starting rookie at S but why not.  New DC this year and maybe a new attitude on D as well.

Any one of these new draftees' would be a positive addition to this team at the S position.  We will have to wait and see.

I really hope not, it would make for a mediocre WR room if that’s the case…,

“We” always seem to fall short on offense when we are just a step of two away from getting it right.

We made a huge mistake not adding Safeties during free agency. Some really good players for cheap.

Didn't Bills sign Matakevich to a two year extension in 2023?

So that would be 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.

https://www.si.com/nfl/bills/news/buffalo-bills-free-agency-re-sign-tyler-matakevich-linebacker-special-teams

This was incorrect.  It was a one year deal (@ 2.5) with a void year to lower the cap hit to 1.8.  His dead cap for 2024 is 667K.

QB (2) - Allen & Trubisky

RB/FB (3) - Cook, Johnson & Gilliam

WR (5) - Diggs, Shakir, Samuel, Hollins & Shorter

TE (3) - Kincaid, Knox, Morris

OL (8) - Dawkins, Brown, McGovern, Edwards, Torrence, Anderson, Van Denmark and Doyle

Defense  (19)

DL (6) - Jones, Oliver, Miller, Rousseau, Epenesa, and Jonathan

LB (5) - Milano, Bernard, Williams, Spector, & Morrow

CB (5) - Douglas, Benford, Elam, and Johnson

Futures/Reserve contracts (15) - If I had to guess Hamler, Gouriage, Jarvis, Cline and Ankou have the best chance of making the team

Offense (10): Evans (RB), Buechele (QB), Hamler (WR), Isabella (WR), Shavers (WR), Thompson (WR), McKitty (TE), Davidson (TE), Gouriage (OT), & Jarvis (OG)

Defense (10): Williamson (S), Ankou (DT), Cline (DT), Ingram (CB), Brown (CB)
