So how are we feeling about Coach McDermott?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone changed their opinion of him over the last month?

This will be an emotional weekend. I’m prepared for a lot of McDermott threads Sunday night if things go poorly. I want to see how we’re feeling entering the biggest regular season game of his head coaching career.

Short of a Superbowl, I think they need a change. There's something wrong with the way this team conducts itself. They are flat and unprepared and seem to have volatile emotional swings throughout the season and within individual games. I mean, that happens, but it's too much. The lack of consistency is their biggest problem.

I expect him back next season regardless of what happens from here

In his media appearances since that negative news article about him … he seems a bit more relaxed … maybe this has helped him on the field during the games the past month …

Im still not sure he can lead the Bills to the promised land .., but I hope for the best…

My opinion has changed ZERO.  Nothing that has occurred since the firing of Dorsey has changed McDermott in any way.

Back when we were losing, MANY posters here said "At this point, we have to win the AFC Championship game for me to reconsider my position with McDermott" or similar.

I really hope McDermott remains on the hot seat regardless of how this season plays out.

The goal here is not to heroically make the playoffs...the goal should be winning MULTIPLE SUPER BOWLS while Josh Allen can still play football.

McDermott remains an "0 for" in that regard, and this season is likely to be the same.

I thought we were done after Philly. Even though there have been some nailbiters, we did just win 4 in a row at a very important time, against good competition for the most part.

He's not top tier - but he's not bottom tier either. What coaches in the league are great & consistent week after week? That's really the question. Good coaching is hard to find, and McD is solid.

Back on the fence.  I was on the fence before.  I was fire him after Denver.  I am back on the fence. I have always believed he is a good coach.  Just not sure he is good enough to get us over the hump.  I am still at he needs to at least get to the AFCCG though.  Can't remain stagnant or keep moving backwards.  At some point something has to give.  This has probably been the easiest season ever to get to the superbowl in his tenure and the team has been dysfunctional all season.

Regardless of how I feel, he is probably safe anyhow.

Totally understandable. What fans fail to understand is we have the expectation of Super Bowl because McDermott has built those expectations.

I am ambivalent. I think he is good, not great. He makes exasperating choices at times, and I hate the defensive time outs that rarely end well. There are too many times when the team comes out flat. It is inexplicable. Nonetheless, it's hard to find good coaches, and the players respect him and like him. (I discount the disaffected. They are a minority, and you will always find those.) So those who are in a hurry to get rid of him are short-sighted, if they presume an upgrade. It's a gamble.

Personally, I'd prefer an offensive-minded specialist, because that is generally where the modern game is. I want someone who can get the best out of Josh Allen, and who will prioritize personnel on that side of the ball. It shouldn't be a revelation that we should be investing high level picks on WR for Josh Allen's prime years, or if not, or in combination, bringing in higher quality free agent receivers.

Overall, I hope McDermott succeeds. I like him as a person, and it would be great if somehow the end result of this ridiculous roller-coaster of a season is a Super Bowl. If it doesn't come close to that, I would at least think about alternatives, but I don't expect Pegula to make a move short of open rebellion from the franchise qb.

We should check in on if Tyler Dunne’s opinion has changed.

anyone seen him hanging around a Wegmans parking lot?
