I've always liked the back story for the song, as it was sung in the movie, Suicide is Painless. Director Robert Altman wanted the song to be the stupidist song ever written. He tried it himself but it wasn't stupid enough. So he asked his teenage son to write the lyrics. He did, in a few minutes. The rest is history. Altman liked to point out that due to royalties from the song, his son made exponentially more than he did for directing the entire movie. Stupid indeed.

Hubba hubba! 😊 Funny you post this; I completely forgot that show existed. But at one time I was a big fan and watched it regularly. Even back then as a little kid, I knew Emmy Jo was hot as hell! It's funny looking at the animals' costumes now...they look terrible and crudely designed. I thought they were great back then! EDIT: apparently Emmy Jo is Emily Peden. She's 77 years now now! BringMetheHeadofLeonLett
BTW, those were real F-4U Corsairs, back before things that were real were filmed doing things that really happened. Those aircraft used to fly out of Sylmar, California, back before people used to give a ***** about whether stuff really existed.
