Edmunds as an EDGE

There's really no need to use those types of plays and packages when your front four is creating consistent pressure on their own. That's exactly what they want. Four rush, seven can cover, makes life really tough for most any offense.

Seven sacks without any sort of blitz. Edmunds plays middle linebacker. Maybe we should say it one more time... Edmunds plays middle linebacker. People been trying to shift him around since he was drafted.

I think we have enough depth at LB with Dodson Bernard and Spector

that we should try some 4-3 overloaded blitz looks with Tremaine next to Von.

Edmunds really needs to make impact plays and this would give him more opportunities

he’s looked good in my opinion when used as a blitzer up the middle

This has been discussed a hundred times the last three years!

Absolutely effing NOT.

Leverage and physicality at the point of attack are the weakest parts of the Tremaine Edmunds skillset. He is a shite blitzer, and does not effectively get underneath blockers. We've seen it in games for years now. His measurables and college experience continue to lure fans into thinking he has the potential to slide to the edge.

Alas, he does not.

I guess I wasn’t clear.

I’m talking about putting him outside of Von as a 5 man front overloaded on one side.

It would only be a situational formation used a few times per game

In the spirit of fellowship, the Bills DID successfully use Edmunds in this kind of 4-3 "over" alignment against the 49ers a couple of years back. (The game where Josh really broke out as a passer on primetime TV (that laser over Warner to the in-breaking Gabriel Davis).) In that game, Edmunds often lined up out on the strongside edge, and was replaced in the middle by Klein. I don't remember any impact plays from that position, but I do remember the Bills stifling the Shanahan attack and winning the game.

Have we ever tried him there? I didn’t have a chance to read the discussion

Yes. After Klein showed he could play MLB, they would occasionally play a 4-3 and line up Edmunds on the outside in a 2 point stance. He wasn’t an effective pass rusher from that spot as others pointed out last year. He really has no pass rushing skill whatsoever.

He's a worse pass rusher than he is a run stopper. His 'out of this world' athleticism bails him out from terrible instincts in pass coverage and run support, but you need to be technically sound and have good instincts to be a capable pass rusher. I'm looking forward to him signing a 100/5 contract with the Raiders in the offseason.

Aren't him & Greg Roussuea about the same size ? If the Bills are going to experiment with him to see if he can be better at a different position why not ? They did the same thing with Peterson & he turned into one of the best LT in the league .

Rossuea - 6' 6" - 266 LB ----- Edmunds - 6' 5" - 249 LB ??? 🤔

I've always thought that Edmunds has had to much to think about while playing which i feel has taken away from his abilities in a way if they could have him play in a more see ball get ball mentality would he be better ? His college position was OLB where someone told him what or how to play each down .

Now he has to decipher each play who knows what a position change might open up for him he's good where he is but might be great in another spot .

I just don't get why people think this is Madden where you can just take a player and put them wherever and they play the same.

Let's start why this is a terrible idea.

  1. You are taking a starting DE off the field to replace them with a backup MLB to play an MLB out of position at DE.  Literally this alone makes absolutely zero sense.
  2. There are different keys and different roles for a DE versus an MLB. Edmunds would be learning these from scratch.
  3. Edmunds is not a great pass rusher
  4. It makes no sense from a defensive standpoint

I we go with with Edmunds next to Miller, and one of those LB's plays the middle, that would make 12 players. Who do you remove from the defense to make this happen?
