I've seen enough from the youngster Edge Rushers: Trade Mario Addison!

While there are definitely exceptions, rookies typically go through stretches of struggle even if they’re really good. You definitely want to have some veteran presence around (who is also still good) like a Jerry Hughes type.

No doubt Hughes is valuable. But if we hv surplus, to get back something of value, we gotta trade sthing of value no? Omelette eggs thing. At this point Addison’s value may be higher inside the organization than outside whereas it might be the opposite with Hughes.

Maybe.  I could care less about special teams.  But I'd be fine if they kept Johsnon and cut Butler.

Yeah Most fans (myself included) as well. For years Bills kept ST only players all over the place. But Johnson IMO really isn’t a ST only player. He was part of the DE rotation last year as well and IMO looked better than Addison at times.

the funny thing is we went from a weakness last year in the DE group to one now that has players that will me moved on from that will play this year a lot in the league.

So glad to have a competent Front Office.

I've been beating the pass rush drum for years.  They went with old slow veterans last year and it didn't work.  Now they are going with a nice mix of experience and youth.   People easily forget Addison led the DL with 5 sacks though it was Hughes that got more consistent pressure.  Youth will cost them some missed containment yards or some screens given up due to the inexperience.  But they will make up for it with more speed on the filed and a few strip sacks during the year.

No reason to trade Addison. The veteran presence will be helpful for the kids this year.

The problem is that we might have to CUT one of "the kids" to make room for Addison this year.

I'd hate to lose Darryl Johnson, for instance -- a guy who contributes on special teams AND just finally seems to be working his way into meaningful defensive snaps -- in favor of having Addison for one year.

Take the cap savings, take the (likely low) draft pick, and let "the kids" get more playing time.

I totally get what you’re saying. That said, I just think you need some veteran presence with your rookies, and again, he’s still really good. Also, we all know how much McD values the veteran presence.

AJ Epenesa and Greg Rousseau have both looked outstanding. Jerry Hughes obviously isn't going anywhere, and rightly so. That makes Obada and 2nd round pick Basham our 4th and 5th DEs. Even Bam Johnson -- in whom the Bills have invested a lot of time and coaching -- is starting to really look the part on defense, in addition to his contributions on special teams. That's six edge rushers right there, the top 4 of whom I feel pretty darn good about.

With the sudden depth of the defensive line and the surprisingly stout play of Epenesa and Rousseau, is it time for Beane to hit the phones and find a trade partner willing to acquire Mario Addison? Would there be a significant contract savings for the Bills if they did so?

Am I taking crazy pills?!

p.s. I sure wish the Bills would've given Mario's money for this season to Ty Nsekhe instead, because HOLY COW is the backup tackle situation suddenly frightening with Brown and Doyle injured and Bobby Hart playing like...well....like Bobby Hart.

Anyway...trading Addison...yay or nay?

Oh, absolutely. I couldn’t agree more. I’ve been saying so since last week. I think Boogie, Rousseau and Epenesa will be phenomenal for us. Might as well hang onto Hughes though, hopefully he retires with some hardware. 💎

A little surprised the Bills haven’t given Star any reps against a different uniform after having sat out last season. He hasn’t been the “Josh Allen” equivalent on defense, so that leads me to believe something’s up (beyond getting looks at the other DL). Could he be trade bait? Knowing how much McDermott values routine, I fully expect him to treat this 3rd preseason game as a dress rehearsal, where available starters will play at least a series. If this is the case and Star doesn’t play yet again… 👋

I agree with you… and they should have done it in March…

But I don’t see them doing it now,,, they have talked him up as a locker room leader and he has taken a pay cut… doesn’t seem very “process” to be trading him now… I don’t think they will be doing anything that may cause some issues with the playing group on the eve of the season…

Any other time, I'd say this is a great idea and I'd be ready to move Addison. But we are lined up to make a big run this year, and I still dont think you do that by moving players who are at the top of your depth chart.

I think Obada is still the odd man out.

Go into the season with Hughes/Addison, Rousseau/Epenesa, with Johnson and Basham playing special teams and Basham even getting some inside reps. Plan for Rousseau and/or Epenesa to push to replace Addison with the starters the first few weeks of the season.

I'd be more willing to move on from Butler and play some of our DEs inside when we have to over losing any of our edge talent.

Not happening.  He saves very little and unless another team is desperate, I doubt it.

Might as well keep him for depth or with the continuation now of the pandemic PS rules, throw him there.  Remember these are only vanilla called preseason games.  Addison will only be a pass rushing specialist so he might only play on third downs.  McD will figure it out.

This is only rush specialist I think he is suited for now.

Maybe we could trade him and Sweeney to Philly for Zach Ertz, Addison did very little last season and the kids look ready. Another drop today by Knox

You're crazy if you think he's tradable.  Maybe if we throw in a draft pick a team that's not going anywhere might take him.  Or maybe Addison and Kumerow to GB LOL

Trades like that for high priced players rarely happen in the NFL and when they do, they are usually for legit top ranked players.  Not for a player that is probably over paid to start with and likely has a year or two left in the tank.

I do wish I were a mind reader though.  Would love to know if Beane would have re-done Addison's contract if he' have known he was drafting to DE in the 1st two rounds.

Welcome to the club. I’ve been here for a week. I would literally take anything for him.  Not because I don’t think he’s good but because the trade part is so crucial to the potential savings with his salary guaranteed. He’s either traded or on the team.

I hope he can fetch a 7th. Literally anything for him is great cause we can’t really cut him. Also his salary isn’t that bad (only 4 mil)

I don’t understand this. We finally have enough depth to make a serious SB run. Instead, we want to thin out our D-line for a likely 6th rounder? Is it worth it? Remember, we constantly rotate players in and out on the D-line. What happens when one of these young players goes down for an extended amount of time or hits a physical wall after playing 10 games?

I think you will see one of the back end of the roster guys agree to a cut and resign so they can cut to 53, send Basham to the IR, then resign whoever.  Might be Zimmer or someone who clearly appreciates being here and has little to no salary cap implications.
