I've seen enough from the youngster Edge Rushers: Trade Mario Addison!

AJ Epenesa and Greg Rousseau have both looked outstanding. Jerry Hughes obviously isn't going anywhere, and rightly so. That makes Obada and 2nd round pick Basham our 4th and 5th DEs. Even Bam Johnson -- in whom the Bills have invested a lot of time and coaching -- is starting to really look the part on defense, in addition to his contributions on special teams. That's six edge rushers right there, the top 4 of whom I feel pretty darn good about.

With the sudden depth of the defensive line and the surprisingly stout play of Epenesa and Rousseau, is it time for Beane to hit the phones and find a trade partner willing to acquire Mario Addison? Would there be a significant contract savings for the Bills if they did so?

Am I taking crazy pills?!

p.s. I sure wish the Bills would've given Mario's money for this season to Ty Nsekhe instead, because HOLY COW is the backup tackle situation suddenly frightening with Brown and Doyle injured and Bobby Hart playing like...well....like Bobby Hart.

Anyway...trading Addison...yay or nay?

I'm liking the barrage of pass rushers going after opposing QBs. Anyone else notice the smile when Frelund told McDermott of pass rush effectiveness?

DE: Rousseau Epenesa Hughes Addison Johnson

DT: Star Oliver Zimmer Obada Boogie

Cut Butler, trade or IR Phillips.

All depends on if Star is ready & if you only go with 1 true 1T, but this way you keep your best 10 linemen.

You're crazy if you think he's tradable.  Maybe if we throw in a draft pick a team that's not going anywhere might take him.  Or maybe Addison and Kumerow to GB LOL

Trades like that for high priced players rarely happen in the NFL and when they do, they are usually for legit top ranked players.  Not for a player that is probably over paid to start with and likely has a year or two left in the tank.

I do wish I were a mind reader though.  Would love to know if Beane would have re-done Addison's contract if he' have known he was drafting to DE in the 1st two rounds.

He has a very tradable contract.

I hope they don't go with only 1 true 1T. Think back to last season.

Maybe a better idea to keep Addison and trade Jerry Hughes to Atlanta for Hayden Hurst and maybe a pick.

I like a Pass Rusher for a CB swap.

What kind of return does Addison fetch?  A 5th round draft?  The Bills are trying to win a Super Bowl this season and are more concerned with that than trying to trade for Day 3 draft pick to take another Jake Fromm next year.

More like a 6th or 7th Rd pick.

I don’t understand this. We finally have enough depth to make a serious SB run. Instead, we want to thin out our D-line for a likely 6th rounder? Is it worth it? Remember, we constantly rotate players in and out on the D-line. What happens when one of these young players goes down for an extended amount of time or hits a physical wall after playing 10 games?

Personally I would be real worried about Groot hitting said wall with him being over a year without any meaningful games.....just saying.

Go BILLS!!

You can always have a couple 1T’s on the PS if you need one later.

Agree.  Addison, Hughes, Epenesa, Basham, Obada, Rousseau, Star, Oliver, Butler, and probably Zimmer.  Johnson is the odd man out at DE and Phillips may be on IR or cut.  Basham is your swing DE/DT.

I think Johnson over Obada at this point.

So glad to have a competent Front Office.

This. Whatever we end up doing I have no reason to doubt Beane.

That would be nice but is it common to keep 10 D-lineman on a 53 man roster? I would think some other positions would be thin.

Are we worries about the cap or something?   Do we have too many good players we can’t keep or something?   Are we worried about hitting Cam too hard?

To me it’s that we always have an eye on the long term cap situation and this would help. I like this move because we have so much depth at the position.

Choices seem to be Cut Bam (maybe Obada but Ive liked his play) or trade Addison get 4 mil in cap and keep Bam. I’ll take the later as I didn’t see Addison do much for us the second half of the year (large part of that was snap count which could go down this year making him more effective).

With what I have seen from AJE and Groot I think we have already upgraded the position group without Addison. Lastly we have a vet in the room in Jerry.

lastly I’m surprised the board banging for Murphy’s head last season isn’t more on board with this move considering we have seen more out of our young DE this year than last.

Speaking of whom, is Murphy on a roster? I'd love to pick him up late in the season before the playoffs if it is looking like we could match up with the Ravens again. He's the ideal DE to line up against a guy like Lamar.

I've said it before...........but if Addison wants to be part of the team perhaps he will accept being cut and join the PS.

He's not subject to waivers and his salary is guaranteed already.........this would help the team and allow him to come in later in the season fresh......hopefully for a strong playoff run or when there are injuries etc..

Obviously he could possibly pick up a vet min salary elsewhere if he were cut.........but sticking around on the PS is not a concept totally out of the realm if he wants to be in Buffalo.

Keeping Addison is fine, UNLESS it means exposing someone younger and more dynamic/versatile like a Bam Johnson or Efe Obada.

One last season of mediocre Mario Addison is not worth letting a promising, younger player go. I'm sure Addison can still be a replacement-level producer this season. But Johnson is a physical prototype who's been a STs beast and is now starting to put it together on defense. Obada looks like a specimen who can give the Bills value on the end and inside. Getting bigger and more physical up front was a focus, and Addison is not part of that movement.

Sure begins to feel like the Basham pick was a luxury that will cost us something else. Hopefully he progresses to the point where that doesn't matter, eventually.
