A versatile performer who came in and played center and we didn't miss a beat. The offence is starting to be hard to defend. Running for over 200 yds is a big deal. But when I saw that ball on the carpet and Marlowe recover it, I was screaming FFFFFFFUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMBBBBBBBLLLLLLEEEEEE!!!!, jumping off the couch and then screaming BILLLLLLLSSSSSSS BALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! You can't fake that, it comes from the gut. So I was ecstatic about the win. It was ugly, but we got it. Does any Cheat fan really remember that McGahee didn't know it was 4th down, that Leodis fumbled, or that TJumptomakeacatch Graham ran the wrong route on the goal line? No, they're just 3 more W's to them, while those three losses eat at our soul. But I do think it is further way than I hoped and that is disappointing and frustrating and I can understand why some fans are venting a bit today. The teardown this regime did was a choice. It wasn't the only option. It was, in my view, the best option but they could have gone about it other ways. When you commit to the teardown and rebuild the expectation, I would argue legitimately, is that what you have rebuilt is a contender. And if it is not but that is because you haven't found the right Quarterback then you get a bit of a pass. They tore down a team that was average with the wrong QB and built one that is only better than average because it has the right QB. That does not equate to "fire everyone" or "blow it up" but it does mean for me that if this season ends with what feels right now like the inevitable early playoff exit then there needs to be some urgency about how they approach the team building in the offseason. This team seems to be transitioning into the top 10 zone but still has work to do. I feel like we have the offense to keep up with the high octane teams. McDermott, however, doesn't inspire confidence and comfort from this fan's perspective. I do think a lot of the issues are coaching related - going back to the wild card game last year. The coaching staff has no desire to blow teams out, and they are too confident in their collective genius. This makes games far more competitive than they should be. So I’m extremely happy given our situation. I can understand people’s frustrations over the defense and the offense taking a step back. What I don’t understand is this happens with every team almost every year. 16 games of amazing offense doesn’t always equal super bowl trophy. (Ask Baltimore last year) 16 games of dominant defense doesn’t equal super bowl trophy. (Ask tons of teams the past few years) You just need to click and get hot at the right time. We have been a little spoiled the last few years, McDermott’s teams have outplayed their talent level and exceeded expectations. Now we are not playing to our talent level and rarely meeting fans expectations. Our only concern should be getting to the playoffs healthy while continuing to either work on or mask our weaknesses. We’re not doomed. The defense we’ve seen so far does not have to be the defense we see come playoff time. You can hope for better and cheer them on, or you can be critical non stop that you KNOW what the future holds. There’s lots of options to have fun over this and have great discussion. But being 6-2 and having a “joke of a coach” is silly. Lot of teams would kill to have our current situation.
