But, I fell in LOVE with him watching him play in that first Minnesota Vikings game. I think that game won him over with the fans and his teammates as well. Seriously though, while I still feel Metcalf is limited athletically in what he can do, he is GREAT at what he is asked to do. I will eat crow on my assertion that Ford was the right pick over Metcalf. While I believe that offensive line trumps wide receivers in importance, Ford has not shown himself to be anything better than a replacement level guard, while Metcalf is clearly an ascending star at WR. I was one of the few on here that liked Lamar Jackson a lot but I knew the Bills weren't going to pick him. At that point I was ready to settle for Rosen even though I thought he was too much of a statue in the pocket to become a top tier QB - you can't be a top QB in the modern NFL without some level of athleticism. But I wanted nothing to do with Allen. His profile of QB has busted so many times I just wasn't comfortable with it. The biggest thing I missed is his athleticism. I gave way too much credence to his scouting reports and they didn't mention his elite strength and scramble ability. That alone would have made me feel better even in light of his flaws. I also didn't like Mahomes or Watson so turns out I'm really really bad at this. I really liked Mahomes, but I was a little concerned with the whole "air raid offense" thing that everyone always talks about. I liked Mayfield, Darnold, and Rosen, but didn't like Allen, but looking back I think I didn't like Allen because all of the draft analysts were so down on him. I also didn't want anything to do with Jackson, for a few reasons. First, I didn't want another running QB. I was sick of Tyrod and wanted a gifted passer. Second, Jackson had a poor pro day, in my opinion, and I also thought he handled the pre draft process really poorly, including having a terrible wonderlic score. I just felt he should have been better prepared for the draft, but maybe he wanted to slide so he could go to a better team. He landed in a perfect spot for him. I still wonder how sustainable his style of play is and whether or not defenses will adjust over time, but so far so good. He does have to prove it in the playoffs, though, which he has failed at twice now. I'm happy with Allen. He convinced me his rookie year after the Vikings game and after that week 17 Dolphins game. Now that Josh is passing the stats test and the eyes merge with the numbers, most have come aboard. I dont blame people for not being on board early because we have gone through one bad qb after another. Us older people were spoiled by a guy named Jim Kelly Us younger people especially the ones that just watch Bills football dont no the difference quite as much because of past failures. I dont ask people to eat crow, yet I remind people that a stat means nothing. Believe that one can learn anything. Believe in what you see not in what you hear or read. All welcome aboard the wagon. I feel like everyone looks at the mocks and the "public facing" scouting reports (usually a paragraph) before the draft, and then determines who they think we "should" get based on that. Maybe they'll check some youtube. Sorry - but unless you live & breathe this stuff, and watch hundreds of hours of film of everyone at a given position, you just have to put faith in the braintrust. And this particular braintrust has 100% earned that faith at this point. Usually, when the Bills draft a guy, I'll get to know him by looking up everything I can about him - but I never chime in w/ the "they should have gotten so & so...what are they thinking?" I didn't think he'd be accurate enough. I was wrong. I didn't trust Daboll enough to develop him. Wrong again. Sean and Brandon were the ones right all along. Glad to be so wrong. Trust the Process. But I did scream at the TV, and began exchanging horrified/disbelief/disgust text messages with all my family up in Buffalo. I don't think a single one of us BESIDES my Uncle Reggie was happy with the pic. I wrote my own obituary telling everyone I had gotten into a barrel and plunged myself over the Niagara Falls. BOY was I wrong! My crow actually tasted pretty good though. 🙂 Josh Allen IS the franchise QB we've been waiting for. And you hit the nail squarely on the head when you compared his leap from year 2 to year 3 to Burrows jump from junior to senior season. I couldn't agree more. Let's go Buffalo! TheBrownBear Posted September 24, 2020 Share Posted September 24, 2020 I thought all of the big name guys were overrated (Mayfield, Darnold, Rudolph and Rosen), but thought Rosen was the best pure passer of the bunch. Plus, I'm a UCLA alum and saw all his games so I felt comfortable with him. Still shocked by how he's fallen flat on his face. I really wanted nothing to do with the other guys, particularly Darnold and Rudolph who completely lack any elite skills. I didn't want Allen since he had mediocre numbers in the Mountain West and just assumed he would be an enormous bust based on the experts opinions. I knew he had a big arm, but had no clue about his awesome athleticism or leadership skills or personality.
