The Blues Brothers.

Kill Bill Vol 1.

Guardians of the Galaxy.

Baby Driver.  Seriously, any movie that sets a car/gun fight to Brighton Beach Rock has a good soundtrack.

But again, Goodfellas is still the gold standard.

Blues Brothers is an awesome soundtrack. Another good one is Wedding Singer. Love the 80s music.

No offense to the others, but Guardians is a very strong call

I remember buying the Easy Rider album at a flea market in Fredonia for a dollar in 1973...classic! The best songs are the ones that no one has ever heard of.

I think the music was definitely a big part of the movie, but it wasn't "the movie."

On that note, I'll throw "Grease," in there with the same reasoning.  It was far more of a musical than Purple Rain, but I still think it was more movie than musical.

May as well include Mama Mia and Bohemian Rhapsody too, then.

Hell, why not Tommy, or The Wall?

Excellent! Wasnt there another installment "City of Angels" Good song on there by Sister Mary Three "Shelf Life"

Great call and yes there was. I was a transfer junior in my first year at Oswego when the movie and soundtrack came out so it was coming of age kinda thing for me. I may have to go either dig up that CD or download it lol

And I think you meant Seven Mary Three! Lol

Maybe you were thinking “Sister Hazel”?

I don't know any sister Mary! ha! I meant Seven Mary Three. The song is called "Shelf Life" excellent song!

Haha I figured as much and yes it was! Always found it humorous that they named their band after the show “CHiPs”! That was John and Ponchs call numbers or something like that.

All excellent submissions.  I'm upset with myself for not thinking of The Wall.

The Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack was the best part of the movie, by far.

No, Rami Malek's performance was the best part of the movie.

Acting-wise, absolutely.  The movie and storyline were junk, though.  It was fictitious, corny and rushed.

I'd much rather see Rami Malek star in a Netflix series about the life of Freddie Mercury.  This way, no one has to try to fit multiple years' worth of facts into a 2-hour movie.

The Brown Bunny the movie was best remembered for a certain scene at the end of it....

Regardless most would say it had a great soundtrack.  Come Wonder With Me was on it.  This song below as well.  It was the first I became familiar with Gordon Lightfoot

Soundtracks which are mere compilations of previously released good music should not be considered for this thread IMO!

A good soundtrack means entirely new music created for a single film and which fits into a certain theme.

Any discussion of this type has to include John Williams score from Star Wars, as well as Vangelis from many movies, but I'd go with Blade Runner above others.  It literally helped make the movie what it was.

There certainly is a type of "soundtrack" which is just a compilation of previously released music not intended for use in film, but to me, that's not a soundtrack.  It's cheating.

The people that I love include:

John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Alexandre Desplat, Vangelis, James Horner, and of course, Ennio Morricone.  Many others, too.

Writing a proper soundtrack is an art form, and these guys are geniuses.

With all due respect, I think you're confusing soundtrack with score.  They both provide musical background to a movie; the score is written specifically FOR the movie, as I understand it.
