Gonna do it, flying solo...

Recommended Posts

After going back and forth a bit I decided I'm going to do something I've never done before.  Check out a Bills game solo.  I've probably been to 100 games, 90% of those me and my crew set up shop in the Hammer Lot (where else?) and tailgated like champs.  Had a lot of people, the cool ones at least back out on the Jets game tomorrow but figured I'd take the opportunity to drive out and do something different.  I'll probably park at one of those cheaper house lots and walk around a bit to take in the Bills game day out side of my usual spot.  Figure I can get a lot of cool pictures and stuff.  One question I had is what time does Big Tree open on game day, always looked over there from Hammers and figured I'd pop in for a game day beer.  Tomorrow will be that day.

Rochester, just over an hour.  Why not? Another question fo anyone that can help.  We usually leave Roch like 7 so our tailgate is set up by 8:30. But with no tailgate i might leave just a little later.  What time does traffic really pick up (shouldnt be bad for this game, 55k tops?)  Should i drive in a back way? Thinking of getting in like 9:30.

I refuse to watch Bills games with anyone who's not as die hard or knowledgeable as myself. They'll invariably start talking about some nonsense that has nothing to do with the game and I'll get extremely pissed off.

Out here in Vegas, my brother is really the only person I know who's as passionate as I am and never asks stupid questions. He has to do his radio gig on game days.

Back when I lived in Delaware, I would drive to one game a year. Never visited my family in the area because it's kind of a sacred experience, as dumb as that seems.

Solo or with die hards is the only way to go.

BIg Tree sets up a tent in the parking lot and has free beer/food on game days, usually music as well. Not sure what time but definitely by 10, probably closer to 9. Not sure when inside opens, 11:00 am according to their website

Can't help with the traffic question, leave Rochester at 7 myself.

Yeah, poor choice of wording on my part seeing as we are playing the Jets this week too. ?

No problem, was just going to warn you about landing in Hammers lot, it really pisses them off

I went to a Ducks v Sabres game solo... in Anaheim. There was no Sabres fan in my section and I had a miserable time.

I've sat alone a few times at Bills games but I don't believe I've ever driven up and gone to the game alone. I would probably enjoy that actually.

I went solo to a game against the Chargers several years ago, though not by choice.  I was going with my son, however he got sick and couldn't make the trip.  I drove up solo from CT and partied with some old buddies from OP before the game, then watched the game from section 114.  Met some really nice people.

You live in Vegas too huh?  Where do you watch the games?

You’ll be fine.  Been to plenty of Phish shows solo.  Go to almost all Wyoming home games solo.  You’ll have a great time.

That sounds like the beginning of a bad movie.  Do you always make it home?

its weird.  I love my alone time but I never go to events solo. I respect people who do this.  My goal is to be the guy in the bar reading a book.

A back route in would be a great idea because it's going to be a beautiful morning for a drive, filled with sunshine...enjoy the game.

At home generally on sites of ill repute. I live right by the South Point. Sometimes I'll tag along with my brother Adam at Westgate, who does local radio. Not to name drop, but that's pretty much what I just did. As many debates as we've had about Allen, there is nobody more intense on gamedays even if the game is seemingly unimportant. I prefer to watch alone. You?

I watch with a die hard fan who has discovered the wonders of social media since becoming a die hard fan and she now has to operate during games and keep me updated on latest Trump blunders and funny memes about it.  And what people I don't even know are doing.  Has changed football forever.  Sad.

That's the last person on Earth I want to think about during Bills games, but I'm glad you've properly trained the misses.?

I have thought about doing that a few times but it’s a 6 and a half hour ride for me each way. How far out are you?

I'm 6 and a half hours out, too, and I do it 5 or 6 times each season.

And I've gone to games solo.   I have a casual relationship with a few folks around me, but certainly pre- and post-game and even much of the game I'm alone.   I like it.

I actually find conversations during the game are distracting.   I like just watching and thinking about the game.

And although I'd rather do the drive with company, I don't mind going solo.  Sometimes I listen to a book or to music.   I make a few phone calls.   On the way home I think and rethink aspects of the game.

I hate when people talk about other crap during the game. Drives me crazy.

I watch the games alone at home all the time. Mostly because I’m embarrassed about the way I act but also because I don’t want to be bothered. People always want to go out and watch the games but I like my set up in my living room with Sunday ticket in solace. It’s more about the drive home that I would be concerned about. When I go up I leave around 4:30 am and I figure the drive home I’ll be falling asleep. Wouldn’t want nobody to talk to to keep me up.

Oh, I don't do the drive all in a day.  I drive Saturday, stay overnight, go the game and drive home.   Couldn't do it all in a day.

Yeah it’s rough. I try to stay but sometimes I can’t. I have gotten up at 4, driven up there watched them get beat in the rain, turned around drove all the way home and gone to work at 8 the next morning.. sucks. I barely go up there now because the ride home after a loss sucks

Went solo to a Bills vs. Raiders preseason game at Cal stadium back in the early 70s.  Solo to a road game!  The place was pretty full because everyone came out to see OJ.

I discovered that, oddly, that during the plays I have a tendency to lean in the direction that the Bills are heading as if to encourage them.  Not so oddly, I guess, because the people around me were all doing it too but they were leaning the Raiders' way which made for some awkward body contact.

I was going to do that at this last Bills @ Jets game. The only other bills fan I know around here bailed on me last min. I ended up riding down with people I know but I was essentially alone in celebration during that beat down. I’m only an hour and change from met life. That 30+ Point beatdown was a sweet day for a bills fan in the Hudson valley. Solo or not. If you grow up around here the jets are the team you will hate the most.

I live in summerlin.  I’ve been watching bills games at Moondoggies (arville and DI) for the last 8 years.  I’d recommended checking it out.  It’s fun time.  There’s a few knowledgeable fans there and lots of die hards (that a may not be as knowledgeable).

Barthenders are fun.  Shout song played after TDs and wins.  Downside for some is that the only game that’s will be played during the Bills game, is the Bills game.  Another downside for some, you should get there a little early to get a good seat.  Come check it out

Been there brother. Adam Hill is my brother, biggest Bills fan alive and he knows the owner well. I get everything free there.

I watched the draft at the west gate with him 2 years ago and remember him almost dying when we passed on lattimore and eventually drafting white.  He missed the mark on that one.....and I told him so at the time.  I’d beg to differ that he’s the biggest fan alive, but I do enjoy listening to him from time to time and I enjoy his passion ??

The bartenders save my buddy’s and I seats every Sunday and haven’t had a bar tab in 7 years but we pay for food.  If you decide to head there on a Sunday, PM me, I’ll  try and save you seats if you’d like

My apologies, based on the thread title I assumed that this was another @Gugny post. I'll let myself out.
