Difference again between Pats and Bills

Recommended Posts

I've said this before and I'll say it again: what were they supposed to do? The Bills weren't the only team that didn't want Decker. All 32 teams, Pats included have had a chance to grab him for months now, but they waited until they were essentially screwed at the position. After trading away Cooks, losing Edelman to suspension, and Matthews to injury, they signed him.

So I ask again, what move would you have made to acquire a wide receiver this year? We weren't going to be able to trade for anyone exciting. There's a damn good reason guys like Julio, Green, Brown, Megatron etc don't/didn't play on a new team every few seasons. They are rare players and teams aren't going to let them go. The only top tier wr that was "available" was Odell, and the Giants wanted multiple 1st round picks for him. Let's say we traded 21 + 22 for him, and the Giants were cool with that. Who's throwing him the ball? We still have to sign him to big time money, which we don't have at the moment. And now we threw away our opportunity to grab the qb we wanted and Tremaine Edmunds for a wr that's going to cost a lot and have no quarterback. That's putting the cart before the horse, we tried that with Watkins and now him along with everyone involved with drafting him are gone.

What about drafting one? The only way we could have drafted an impact player at that position was if we didn't draft Edmunds or Allen, because the top guys were gone by our second round picks. So would you rather have a consensus top 10 player in Edmunds that addresses a huge need (our biggest need on defense), or a late 1st/2nd round graded receiver? I guess that's a subjective question, but given the choice between Edmunds and literally any wr in this class, I'll take Tre every single time.

That brings us us to the third option: bring in a high number of less exciting options and have them compete to make the team. It's the only strategy that we could have implemented while still getting the two most important pieces on offense and defense.

Sorry for the thesis here, this just irritates me to no end.

Maybe they did reach out to Decker and he didn't feel the love on the telephone. Maybe he has loved the patriots style of play for some time and Decker realized  this offseason the flame still burns. Maybe our front office did reach out and fought tooth and nail  to sign him but he ended up going somewhere else. And now that he's signed with a division rival McBeane can only sit and stew and say to themselves I'll get even with you.

For someone so Hotblooded, this take is As Cold As Ice. You must have taken quite the Headknocker before posting this because it Feels Like The First Time you've ever thrown down a Low Down and Dirty hot take.  You think Decker is a quality receiver, but That Was Yesterday.  Carry on though, you Dirty White Boy, The Damage Is Done and somebody's bound to Break It Up.

Nice! I've been waiting for a post like this.....to come into my life....

The Pats are looking for WRs, so brought in veteran WR Eric Decker for a workout yesterday.

You would think that the Bills who did not even attempt to address perhaps the worst WR core in the league

during the off season,  would have tried this. The situation with the OL, with Wood & Incognito gone, and same old,

same old Mills and Miller who are nowhere near the top of the league, helps one understand why the Bills

are picked where they are for this year. Hard for any QB to have success when teams know the top talent

to stop is McCoy.

In case you haven't noticed, any criticism of McDermott and Beane is not allowed by the TBD Fanboys.

The Bills appear to be noticeably disinterested in improving either their WRs or their OLers via the waiver wire, which is, and always has been, a common means for teams to improve weak units.  The Bills have brought in numerous defensive players before TC looking for the proverbial "diamonds in the rough", so they obviously do believe in trying out FAs.  It also makes their not looking at players to possibly improve their worse two units speaks volumes about the Bills priorities ... that offense doesn't matter.

The point is ts not whether Decker is any good now, but the Pats have tried, just like they tried with

Hogan and Gilleslee recently. He did have talent at one time.

Hogan was a small mistake to let get away. He's a decent #3 WR that can fill in decently when guys are hurt.

Gillesleeis a RB, not a WR. We got a draft pick for him leaving and he did NOTHING in NE. We signed him off the street and turned him into a draft pick. Success.

The league is full of 90 man rosters. Anyone who is available is either crappy or holding out to play with a contender.

Why is this so hard for you naysayers to understand?

It’s crazy.

Some of these posters are defending our WR Corp, wacky blind faith with no logic at all.

What the !@#$!!

News flash. Op is correct, we need to upgrade our wr and ol and we are ignoring it.

Its odd how they just ignore it.

Very Billsy and Very Typical.

Upgrade it with who?

Who is currently available that would be an upgrade at WR?

And remember, during the off-season we traded Tyrod. We have no set starting QB. All we had during free agency was Peterman and a totally unproven McCarron.

Do you think veteran receivers with other options were lining up to come to Buffalo?

Training camp just started though. Rosters have not yet been trimmed. Some good players will shake loose, and hopefully Buffalo will take a look fit is right. So let’s wait and see.

I do expect that WR will be a bigger priority next year for sure, with Josh Allen likely taking on full time starting duty and the Bills having a ridiculous amount of cap space.

Kelvin Benjamin was damaged goods from Carolina, and let us hope that he can still go after recent surgery.

Kerley has been there, done that and Zay Jones---please.

Kelvin Benjamin may always be remembered in Buffalo for the push off in the End Zone against Jacksonville.

Dude I can't forget that play.  I still reference it as one of the laziest stupidest plays by a Bills player ever.   Very well could have cost us the game.

Hey I know Jalen Ramsey is a great cover guy, but you make your best move on him, use your 40lbs and 4 inch advantage LEGALLY and Tyrod puts the throw where only you can catch it.  Probably out of bounds and uncatchable, but it's FIRST FREAKING DOWN and goal to go at the 2 yardline.  You have two more chances to pound it through.  Instead Benjamin blatantly pushes off and we get backed up on the most important drive we've had in 17 years.

I still maintain that if Beane knew we would go into the playoffs he would have retained Sammy.    With the chemistry he had with Tyrod, that's a guaranteed touchdown even if it's it's Ramsey covering you.

Not to pee on your pity parade, but the Pats* only brought in Eric Decker because Jordan Matthews, Kenny Britt, and Malcolm Mitchell are all hurt and they need bodies. Also, while Edelman is suspended and discluding Gronk (who's a tight end), New England has a worse WR corps than Buffalo.

But please continue.

And because, well, he's white.

Wasn't that the formula last year?  Still got to 9-7 and a playoff birth where we only lost by 7 on the road.

is that the crowning memory  bubble of your fandom for the Bills?

This is going to be out there a bit but I wish the Bills would give a look to Eric Rogers, currently with the Calgary in the CFL.  He's a big WR who led the CFL in receiving for two straight years prior to getting into camp with the 49ers, and then suffering a knee injury, which he sent him back to Calgary.  I watched the kid play in college out in California and he was a beast.

Its a bit early yet, but I see we have rolled out the "fanboys" argument.  Normally do not see this until we are bit further down the road.  Well done.  Always best to be first with the passive aggressive insults to people that do not agree with you.
